The @genealogygirltalks #genealogyphotoaday challenge for today is "Horse". Even though I thought I knew my grandma pretty well, I love learning new things about her by looking through her old photos. For example, until recently, I never new that my grandparents had a horse. How cool is this? My dad's cousin made a three generation series about our family starting in the late 1800's with my great-grandfathers family. This DVD set is the 3rd installment and is 2 discs and almost 4 hrs. I'm so blessed to have these dvd's to watch and show future generations about their ancestors and how life was back then. #ancestry #americancousins #3generations #familyiseverything #familyhistory

The older and older I get -- I am calm about most things but I have increased caution and sometimes worry in other areas. Like I am not comfortable when I know my family is en route anywhere. My big brother (right) was traveling from AZ to meet up with mis padres in Oceanside. That back road interstate 8 is #NoJoke....And its #memorialdayweekend gahhh 😲. So glad he made it safe to meet with them. Looking at my #ethnicityestimate as compared to my #geneticcommunity on #ancestrydna and realizing two things: 1. I'm really not supposed to be anything near what I am today, I am my ancestors wildest dreams and 2. Spent some time with my Granny yesterday going through old family photo albums. I love learning more about my family and ancestors. This photo is also fabulous because it's clear that my superb eyerolling capabilities were inherited from Granny, the little girl on the right. 😂 What is something you love that you inherited from your #family?

A Thousand Year History of Spain: From Asturias to León ----------------------------------------------- In 866, Alfonso III came to the throne of Asturias, and made the city of León his capital. Under Alfonso's reign, vast amounts of territory to the south of Asturias were taken from the Umayyad Emirate; the Emirate did not have the resources to outright conquer Asturias, and Asturias did not have the resources to make significant gains in Iberia, so instead territory was slowly acquired more through raids, as opposed to glorious battles and sieges. Despite this, Alfonso III managed to gain a lot of land with what he had during his 44 year rule. Alfonso built castles along the borders to fortify the kingdom against invasion, reorganised his kingdom into four major territories: Galicia, Portugal, Saldaña, and Castile. By this point, the idea of reestablishing the power of the Visigothic Kingdom in Iberia was on the minds of Asturias's rulers, as Alfonso III saw his kingdom as the successor to that of the Visigoths. In 910, Alfonso III died. His kingdom was divided between his three sons into the Kingdoms of Galicia, a smaller Asturias, and León, now the most powerful. However, in 924, the former to would be united under the latter; thus, the Kingdom of Asturias had died, and the Kingdom of León was born. (18th Century statue by Philippe Boiston of García I, king of León from 910 to 914 and son of Alfonso III. Mailed my spit sample today to @23andme. I previously did the @ancestry DNA testing and it has proven very useful in finding members of my birthfathers family which has been my main focus of search of late. The closest match I have is a third cousin on b. Fathers side and numerous 4&5 cousins. I am hoping to find a closer match using @23andme and get a little further down the family tree. Its quite amazing to go from having a blank on my birth certificate for my bio father to finding out who all my gr. Gr. Parents' are. Eventually I hope to solve the mystery of who he is one day. #DNA #23andme #ancestry #usairforcepilot #Europe1969 #incident #whoishe #Werner #Welker #Attica #newyork

The primary intention of my visit to Hawaii was to spread the ashes of my father. Hawaii was a very special place for him and our family. He had a #whale tail necklace that never came off his neck for over 35 years, he could sit on the beach all day watching the ocean and get so excited every time he saw a whale. He had shared with me that he had always wanted to hike the #Kalalau trail. We talked about hiking it together once he got healthy… yet he passed away several months later. So I chose to hike down there with the last of his ashes and release the final dust and bones of his physical body and #spirit to the #Hawaiian #Islands. When I arrived I found a beautiful cave at the end of the beach. I practiced #yoga, created a small altar and did a #prayer/ceremony to release his ashes and spirit to the spirit of #Hawaii and the #ancient #ancestry of this magical place. The following day the #light was beautiful and I was taking a photo of the silhouette of the rocks and mountain above the cave when I saw the silhouette of this ancient #guardian appear (nose, lips and forehead are up towards the top corner... the sun is hovering just near the #heart & #throat #chakra)! While on the islands I had amazing conversations and read some interesting texts that left me feeling very connected to the #Lemurian history, mystery, magic and ancestry of this place. It feels to me as though this guardian is an ancient #ancestor that is protecting the #health of the #land and water of this entire planet for all time and space. This feels appropriate ... as one message that was always shared very clearly with me by my father was to... "leave the campsite better than we found it". Planet Earth, mother #Gaia is our campsite and it is our #responsibility for future #generations to leave it better than we found it... the seven generations and all generations beyond deserve healthy clean #air, #water and #soil. It is our responsibility as earth guardians to ensure that these natural #elements are #respected, #protected and #honored as #sacred. at Nā Pali Coast State Park
