What it takes for one photo - 20kms over the mountains and across two lakes was meant to be an easy summer trail. Everything was melted at the beginning of the trail and she was all uphill, we left at 7am and aimed for a hut 8kms away. What was meant to take 3 hours had taken us 7, the beginning was a vertical climb of 400meters and when we reached the top of that we came across many creeks and the bridges had been taken down for winter and we had to do a few creek crossings which takes a bit of time scouting up and down to find the best way to cross. (The water was bloody freezing) We reached the hut at 2pm and left at 4pm to climb further up the mountain, within a few 100m we hit slushy snow. We hit the first peak and see slush and snow everywhere and even the lakes were half frozen. The DNT route we were taking was a 'scenic' route which loves to hit peak after peak. The snow is melting and you could hear the water flowing under the snow, we fell through the ice multiple times (just our legs) and we took our time finding the safest routes for us to pass. We had both fallen on our asses over a dozen times and we decided to head straight to the lakes edge and follow that for both safety and and flat ground. That next 12 kms took us 10 hours and we finished at 2am. It was raining and was windy the entire time, our feet were always wet but no matter what Mother Nature through at us we continued to push forward! What we learned from this is that the risk for us to continue through the mountains is too great and we lose too much time so we must jump back on the road... unfortunately.. but finishing the entire trek is more important than the route itself. #statusresfeber #lifesnextjourney #thisishowibrawr #stopbitchinstartlivin #earthtrails #veterans #veterannarrative #teamrubicon #journey #gamechanger #pow #adventure #instadaily #kathmandugear #AwesomeNorway #iamnordic #Norway #LandscapesOfNorway #DestiNorway #nortrip #brilliantnorway #visitnorway #stories_of_norway #norgebilderno #doyoutravel #backpacking #hiking
