MOTIVATION - PT ZAC'S STORY: Did you know that our delightful trainer, Zac, has lost 60kg after being very overweight? His story is pretty inspirational & he wanted to share it with you in his own special way. Grab a cuppa, read it & remember - if you want something bad enough, you'll make it happen. #noexcuses #fitspiration "In 2011, I weighed 120kg & am now at a healthy 83kg for my body. I started gym in 2011 after realising that I just wasn’t happy with where I was in terms of my body. My self-image & how I saw myself had suffered dramatically probably my whole early childhood & teen years due to being a bit of a chunky boy. I started karate (which I loved!) & gym. I was a bit hesitant to go to the gym at first so my first initial months were a bit shaky. It’s a daunting thing starting at a gym, especially without prior fitness to help but good on you for taking the hardest step of all: GETTING IN THERE! Eventually the weight was dropping & I was feeling more confident with every session. I got to my goal weight by the start of 2012 which was 70kg. I did this by reducing my portion sizes, eating more filling meals & having snacks throughout the day (such as nuts, muesli bars etc). Saying no to bad foods when I could helped as well. I then moved to Brisbane at the end of 2012 after high school & I found, like many of us, life was getting in the way of me getting to the gym. I found I put on 15kg in the short time that I had been living down here. This flipped a switch and I decided that I was going to lose the weight I put on, start feeling good about myself again and become a PT. I pushed myself to train harder, longer and eat healthier (smaller portion sizes and making sure I had a balanced diet of proteins, carbs and fats. I lost a total of around 60kgs from 2011 to 2014 and have never felt better. I’m now a personal trainer at one of the best clubs in Brisbane, with the best clients EVER!! #goals #motivation

How long has it been since you pulled out a tape measure and wrapped it around yourself to check in with your weight loss goals? We aren’t big on watching the scales every day, but sometimes it really does help to have some measurements to compare with to see if your on track. But don’t do it everyday, just once every 3-4 weeks to keep you on track, rather than being obsessed with it.

Occupation: My career goal is to be a trophy wife but I work too hard in our family business to achieve that goal. How long have you been a member at 12RND Ashgrove? About 9 months Why do you train at 12RND? Convenience of being able to start anytime and it is a fairly quick but intense work out and having a trainer on the floor also makes me work harder. I am naturally lazy so they make sure I keep up the intensity. Have you always been a regular exerciser? I had been doing Pilates for at least 12 months pre-joining 12RND. Least favourite exercise at 12RND? β€’ Burpees β€’ Rower β€’ Anything involving the ropes β€’ Chin ups β€’ Push ups β€’ Walking past the bakery on the way out and not buying a caramel slice……. What is your next goal as far as fitness is concerned? To complete the 6 Week Challenge and convert some fat to muscle in the process. What do you do for fun away from work? TECHNIQUE TUESDAY - ROWING: Here's Evan, the best rower at the club, showing beautiful rowing technique. He did 506m in 1:20 & makes it look effortless, even though he's working HARD. Here's some tips about how to improve your rowing from @Concept2inc: "The Catch" Arms are straight; head is neutral; shoulders are level & not hunched. Upper body is leaning forward from the hips with the shoulders in front of the hips. Shins are vertical, or as close to vertical as is comfortable for you. Heels may lift as needed. "The Drive" Start the drive by pressing with your legs, & then swing the back through the vertical position before finally adding the arm pull. Hands move in a straight line to & from the flywheel. Shoulders remain low & relaxed. "The Finish" Upper body is leaning back slightly, using good support from the core muscles. Legs are extended & handle is held lightly below your ribs. Shoulders should be low with wrists & grip relaxed. Wrists should be flat. "The Recovery" Extend your arms until they straighten before leaning from the hips towards the flywheel. Once your hands have cleared your knees, allow your knees to bend & gradually slide the seat forward on the monorail. For your next stroke, return to the catch position with shoulders relaxed & shins vertical. #education #rowing #learningtoloveit
