πŸ”” Behind the Prescription: Kettlebell Swing πŸ”” Kettlebell (KB) Swings are commonly used within the fitness industry, but too often they are performed incorrectly. What is the aim of a KB Swing? Contradictory to what people think, a KB Swing is a hip dominant exercise. It's all in the legs! The aim isn't to pull the KB as high as you can at the top range (shown in the first photo); the aim is actually to reach the Kettlebell as far back between the legs as possible at the bottom range of the movement (shown in the second photo). The momentum of the hips thrusting forwards is what will determine the height of the KB at the top range. For the entire movement, you need to focus on keeping core engaged, lats switched on and chin tucked to maintain a neutral spine. Remember, a KB Swing is a Hip Hinge Exercise, not a squat! at Brisbane, Queensland, Australia

I started teaching group fitness/aerobic classes when I was 16years old (ahem - in 2001) and at that stage Aerobic Oz Style was still on TV in the early mornings, and Billy Blanks Kickboxing videos was the latest 'fad'. . Back then, "aerobic/cardio" activity was all the rage for women. You only really saw men and very brave women in the weights areas. That faded in the early 2000's and gave way to weight training for strength becoming much more popular. Women seemed interested in their long term health and I saw the move from 'skinny fit' to 'strong fit'. . The increase in chronic conditions in our society over Β the last 10 years has seen a massive shift in focus (well, I would like to think so anyway) from quick fixes to more of the long term health phenomenon. . This is such a positive thing, and the way I like to work with all my clients. There will always be the latest 'fad' - but ultimately, it will come back to consistency with your movement and nutrition - whatever that means to you!
