5 day rest day! Say what? 2 years ago this would have killed me. I'd be feeling so guilty. Sometimes I used exercise as a punishment if I ate something I "shouldn't have" and it would be a chore to "work it off" pfffftttt Fast forward a few years, adrenal fatigue, sibo, studied holistic Nutrition & personal training & many injuries, I have now learnt ( it's a daily practice) to listen to my body, rest when needed & most of all not punish myself from food or for having days off. Studio 20 of 100 Where: @sweatchicago What Class: Total Body With: Tim How much I loved it: I had no idea what to expect from Sweat, but I kept seeing posts on Instagram and wanted to check it out! I was a little confused when my Uber dropped me off, but soon realized that it is in the same storefront as Kitchfix. Despite appearing to be closed, the door was unlocked and I headed downstairs to get my sweat on! The room is quite large, complete with treadmills, rowing machines, TRXs, a turf area with battle ropes, and a large open area for floor work. We worked through four stations, mixing cardio with weighted exercises, planks, sit-ups and burpees. Each station was nine minutes; that consisted of three sets of three different exercises, each one minute long. It is appropriate for all experience/fitness levels because you are free to adjust each exercise to meet your needs. Tim was a great coach and motivator and made his way around to everyone multiple times throughout the class, even giving me a fist bump at one point! Felt like doing a little workout..nothing too full on for a SundayπŸ˜‰. So i thought I'd jump on the trampoline with the kids for half an hour. Exercise Spotlight: Kettlebell Arm Bar! # This is an excellent drill to learn the "packed shoulder" position. It passively helps your shoulder blade move down and back, facilitating the activation of the rhomboids, lower traps, and rotator cuff muscles. This helps the timing and stabalization of the shoulder joint, which is important to avoiding shoulder injuries. # How to perform the kettlebell Arm bar: β–ͺLay on your side next to a light kettlebell, scoop the kettlebell up with the arm closest to the ground. β–ͺRoll with the kettlebell onto your back and press the kettlebell up to the ceiling. β–ͺBend your knee on the same side as the kettlebell, push that foot into the ground to roll your body over to your side. β–ͺAllow the kettlebell to passively "pack your shoulder", or allow your shoulder blade to slide back and down. β–ͺYou should feel tension in the muscles surrounding your shoulder blade (not your neck or chest). Stabilize the kettlebell for 30 seconds. β–ͺRoll back to the starting position, switch arms, and repeat. Do three per side. # This exercise can be as a warmup for upper body training or as a regab/prehab for shoulder injuries. If you don't have access to a kettlebell, no worries!
