One of the most insane views I've ever had. The Argentinean side of #iguazufalls defies the laws of nature.

CROSSING THE GOBI Day 4 28km covered The sunrise burnt away the wind this morning long enough for us to cover good ground with crystal clear skies. We are slowly adding distance each day, building up our bodies and more importantly our feet. Foot maintenance is critical out here. Any hot spots (potential blisters) have to be dealt with ASAP. It's like holding a pee at night time, you can't um and ah about it, but it's not going away, so best to sort it out as soon as you feel it coming. My feet look like mummies currently. Every 2 or so hours a local passes us on their motor bike or truck, and stop to check us out. 70 % of them smell of booze and cigarettes, but 100% of them offer us a smile, a hand shake and a lift. Our interpreter, Orgil, wrote what we are doing on a piece of paper for us in Mongolian to show curious locals, but I'm sure they still can't make sense of it. I don't think I even understand what the hell I'm doing out here. The road was long and straight today, but it ended at a beautiful river that would be our camp for tonight. As the sun went down a herd of horses waded through the water and rolled in the sand. As I splashed the freezing water on my face and dunked my mummified feet willing them to carry me for 2 more months I couldn't help but smile. This moment, these simple memories are why I am out here. Day 5 27km covered The temperature plummeted over night. As I walked down to the river, 1/2 a litre of boiled water in hand, I noticed its edges were frozen. Today was my first water wash since we left Bulgan. When we aren't at water sources, only prime real estate gets the luxury of being baby wiped. We have rationed 4 baby wipes a day for the trip. One for my face (ears and nose included), one for my tits, bits and armpits, one for my feet because I hate dirty feet, and one for number twos. If you happened to be regular that day, one area will be sacrificed.

CROSSING THE GOBI DAY 1-3 Day 1 8km covered Day one. Where planning, theories and speculation are all put into practice. The last 6 months I have been thinking ahead of this exact day and now this adventure is unfolding and life has become immediate. The next step, water break, is all I can think of, the end is just this myth that lies somewhere on the horizon to the East. As Bulgan disappeared so did the anxious cloud that was hanging over me all morning as we built our carts on the outskirts of the tiny derelict town. Doing this unsupported meant we couldn't forget anything, and anything we did forget we would have to do without. Luckily a last check in the van uncovered both Luke and Matts sleeping bags or it would've been a cold few months of sleep. It was a relief to step off. To have a break from it all. No traffic or artificial noise. No money exchanging hands. No bills to pay. The only currency we know now is water. That is what our whole journey is based around. Finding it. Filtering it. And drinking enough of it. We will navigate from well to well, or river if it is available. "One nomad family, there is one water!" our interpreter has mentioned at least 6 or 6000 times. We kicked off today with 40 litres each, enough for 5 days of drinking and eating. But the less we can take at a time the better, we don't need the excess weight in our carts this early in the trip. With 70kgs of food, 40kgs of water and 30-40kgs of shelter and essentials I'm hoping we can dump some soon. Day 2 22km covered I woke up to a rustling and and munching. "Babe, eat your dessert." It was 3am and Luke was pounding a meal, and when someone with 6 summits and an Atlantic row under his belt says eat, you eat. At the end of the first day although we only did 8km my body went into shock. I was shivering and feeling nauseas eating my dinner, and we all realised what a rookie error we had made. After 2 weeks sitting around in Ulaanbaatar then 4 days in a van surviving off wafers and gummie bears alone it was not surprising our bodies weren't happy about going from 0 to pulling 160kg uphill.
