#clientshoutout ________ Swayze and I have been crushing personal records and workouts for a year and a half now and even at 76 years old she continues to grow in all strength numbers and mobility. To give you an example of real #seniorstrength she is able to push 280 # on the sled for 50 meters total in less than 5 minutes, get up and down off the ground with a 12" barier assistance, plank forever with a smile on her face, and the list goes on. When you are all three, it takes a whole new level of dedication. It takes a warrior of otherworldly proportions to change hundreds of lives. And it takes a special soul to do it with genuine care. Introducing: Becky Baker Stephens The first time I met her was when she was teaching a Bodycombat class at Onelife Norfolk. I wasn't an instructor yet (so this was at least 7-8 years ago) and I distinctly remembered how visceral her strikes were...they had impact and purpose. Her face looked like a fighter, and she was super strong. Then....after class I asked her "what release were those tracks from?" I hadn't done many of the ones she taught. She seemed surprised and said "wait....you're an instructor, right? I kinda thought so based on your technique!" No.....I wasn't yet. But damn if that didn't brighten my day. So on top of everything.....she was approachable and kind. A true professional. Years have passed (and if you asked either of us, we would say far too many!) and we have each gone down our paths as fitness pros. At the AIM2 training, and she doesn't even know this by the way, I had a mission during my presentations. "Impress Becky". I have, and always will, look up to her. She has been teaching multiple programs, training clients, and educating the masses longer than almost anyone I'm aware of. With the experience comes a kind soul who just wants to change the world. One of my favorite lifts by far is the #splitjerk it is both technical and a brute movement that requires you to really dial on timing and maintaining an aggressive approach. The Swiss/football/multi grip bar is an awesome piece of equipment that can be used in various ways. One benefit of the bar is that when grabbing the handles that run perpendicular to the bar, it allows you to use a neutral grip (palms facing inward to body). This externally rotates your shoulders and is usually a more friendly pressing position. Also, as shown in the video using an eccentric emphasis (slow lowering) may be beneficial. This forces you to use lower loss which are less taxing on the joints, and it also helps ensure good technique. Also, if your gym doesn't have a Swiss bar then go to another gym (kidding. Well, sort of). If there is no bar you can use two dumbbells with your hands in a neutral position. Caveat: I'm not a physical therapist so I don't claim this will feel great for everyone, but that it MAY be a better option for someone with pissy shoulders.
