Was finally able to get out to an indoor stadium and test my vert since ages, as I've been focusing on lifting. Got pretty close on 1 attempt and was able to get mid palm to the ring. It's still also winter, so still a bit of work to do and hopefully I'll be jamming come summer time! I think I also could've gotten a bit closer but the ball wasn't very pumped so couldn't get it high enough. Played around with some new things such as... 🔹Single-Leg lateral hops over the mobility stick: Focusing on trying to land on the same spots and popping off the @nabosotechnology mat as quick as I can. 🔸Single Leg SuperCAT throws with the SWITCH LEG. It was my first time performing the movement but because I do the Single-Leg throws all the time, there wasn't much of a learning curve. Really focus on getting the opposite leg out of the way to prevent broken shins 😖 🔹SuperCAT overhead throws aren't something new for me, but I definitely have a hard time with them so for now, I'm keeping the load lower and focusing on EXPLODING & ACCELERATION! 🔸Bent-Over Rows on the Isokinetic LINK machine. The LINK is an "All-you can-eat" Concentric machine! Meaning, no load coming down, but the load going up is matched by the force you produce. Fuckin' SICK! 🔹Split Stance Overhead Press on the Isokinetic LINK machine. Over the next few months I will be posting a lot on the training I'm doing to increase my #vertical. I will be using a lot of advanced training methods to help my old body climb towards the top of my genetic potential in the #verticaljump, so stay tuned. Today I combined the #deadlift and vertical jump together. Doing doubles on the deadlift (315lb+70lb in chains) followed by one vertical jump. With about 20 seconds rest between the two, I repeated both until I had a 3% drop off in my vertical jump height. Using this method, I am able to ensure that I'm doing quality reps at high velocity, which trains the body to generate more power. Both back squat and jump squat training achieved similar improvements in vertical jump height, but the other adaptations were very different. Only strength training with the back squat produced increases in 1RM strength and isometric strength, and it also caused the gradient of the force-velocity curve to become steeper when measured against a range of jump squat loads. In contrast, jump squat training caused greater gains in countermovement jump peak velocity and tended to cause the gradient of the same force-velocity curve to become shallower. #Repost @chrisabeardsley (@get_repost) The stretch-shortening cycle (SSC) is a key element of strength and conditioning, and yet we still have a very poor understanding of the mechanisms that contribute to the enhancement of force in the concentric phase, after the preceding eccentric phase. Currently, it is thought that a number of mechanisms might contribute to SSC force enhancement, although their relative importance might change depending on the type of movement. These factors include: 1️⃣ residual force enhancement 2️⃣ elastic energy storage 3️⃣ an increased active state (pre-tension or pre-activation) 4️⃣ a change in the points on the force-velocity or length-tension relationships at which the muscle produces force. This study assessed the role of pre-activation in the squat, by comparing a preceding eccentric phase with a preceding isometric phase, when both involved the same force production, and similar muscle activation. Although both isometric and eccentric phases caused force enhancement, the eccentric phase produced a greater effect. The RDL with triple extension is an excellent alternative to Olympic lifts for developing RFD and power. The training effect is significant whilst the time to learn the movement is minimal. Drop jumps/depth drops vs depth jumps Depth drops: This is basically the landing part of the depth jump. The depth drop trains your eccentric strength and how well you can absorb force & stabilize your bidy. A lot of people neglect the landing part when training for their vertical jump when it is one of the most important. If you can't absorb force well and stabilize your body, there is no way you're gonna jump high. Depth jumps: This is probably the only true plyometric exercise and the original shock method. The depth jump trains how well you can absorb force and convert it to a vertical movement. This exercise also trains how fast you can absorb that force and jump right away (aka the amortization phase). This is a highly advanced exercise. Rest Day, but decided to get some medicine ball plyometrics in. I'm really liking these medicine ball slams followed by a vertical jump, as it really builds the strength/speed of the downswing motion. Once you build the strength it's all about maximizing the speed of your jumps, and this exercise really helps transfer momentum and take off speed 💪🔥
