This Saturday morning at the farmers market, a very charming shop keeper handed me his homemade chimmichurri sauce on a cracker to try. He made it out of the green leafy stems of a garlic plant, lime, and cilantro (which he pronounced ceee-LAN-tro) and suggested I try it myself at home with nice steak. Chimmichurri and steak are already my love languages, but this guy was so friendly it literally felt as though the clouds parted and the sun shone down on my face in the most pleasant way. I somehow threw all my food prep plans out the window and decided I needed steak with this sauce as soon as possible. I can't tell if that makes me a completely silly wide eyed girl or a cool food-savvy spontaneous woman, but I do know that I made everything he suggested the very next morning. It was a garlicky kind of wonderful and I will be sharing recipes that use it all week long!

Horsegram and Foxtail millet idli . What can be more perfect than a plate of pillowy soft hot steaming idlis on a cold winter morning. Horsegram is one of the richest sources of vegetarian protein and it's got a spectacular nutritional profile of essentials like iron and calcium to name a few. I have replaced rice with Foxtail millet (Navane in kannada) this makes it suitable for people seeking low GI breakfast. I am one of those who fail to portion control with idlis so I find ways to balance somewhere. This is extremely filling and diabetes friendly. . RECIPE 11/2 cups Foxtail millet (or any millet) 1/2 cup urad dal (split and husked black lentils) 1/2 cup horsegram 2 tablespoon poha/flattened rice 1 teaspoon methi/fenugreek Soak urad dal and methi seeds together, and soak millets seperately in a bowl and also soak horsegram seperately in a bowl. Grind them seperately as each once grinds differently than the other. Wash and a soak poha just before grinding. (Grind with millets) Mix all the batters together and ferment as usual depending on where you live, add salt and make the idlis. Don't get turned off by the smell of horsegram while grinding or steaming the idlis. They disappear once the idlis are ready. Tonight I made the family veggie burgers and myself a veggie burger bowl using a @quornusa "turkey" burger patty, grilled onions, mushrooms, avocado, tomatoes, cornichons, green onions and some olive oil and seasoning. It was 315 calories and SO GOOD! I love @quornusa turkey patties. They are seriously one of the best veggie patty options I've ever had, but they can be hard to find. I like that they grill up really well and don't dry out, get hard or fall apart like some veggie patties do. Plus, no soy! Anyhow, I'm I fan, obviously. When I first started learning about nutrition and aiming to eat healthier, it took a while for me to change my breakfast routine. I ate Special K cereal with REAL milk every morning..after a few months I switched to almond milk, the sweetened kind. . I've never been much of a breakfast eater but I was so obsessed with Special K.. some people even nicknamed me that at the time ๐Ÿ˜‚. . Needless to say, I finally realized that 30 grams of sugar as soon as I woke up was not doing good things for my body. I was addicted to sugar and my morning cereal routine was dooming me from the start... 6 years later and I absolutely LOVE the hearty, paleoish breakfasts that I cook up. We were trying to use the grill, but apparently it's broken, so our Memorial Day meal ended up having to be made indoors (not ideal for this hot weather). It turned out pretty awesome even though our place is steaming hot now! Super easy "rice" to make....You can either buy your cauli riced or make it yourself in a food processor. Instead of butter or oil, I used Ghee to season the pan. Minced onions, spices (listed in my story) and some nuts + dried fruit to give it a little texture. So funny.
