These noisy, colourful characters were a highlight of our recent Auckland Zoo visit. These birds were complete show offs, flying through the crowd and performing tricks. They are trained with positive reinforcement (aka food!) -here the bird is following a target stick used to show the bird where you want him to go. He knows he gets a treat when his beak taps the stick! . 🐦So who can name the type of bird? Clues: Its a type of parrot, bigger than a cockatoo, comes from Central America, it likes licking clay for nutrition, and it sounds like the surname of a famous All Black! . . . . . #zooanimalsofinstagram #zooanimals #parrots #macaw #allblacks #amazonparrot #amazonparrots #macaw #positivereinforcementtraining #positivereinforcement #birdtraining #zoophotography #animalcaptures @animals_captures @animalsoftheworldig @splendid_animals #wildlifepage #wildlifewednesday #guessinggame #guessme at Auckland Zoo

Bison Rut __________ Bison are the first of our hoofed mammals to begin mating in late summer and the rut has been in full swing throughout August. 2000 lb Bulls roar, kick up dirt, roll, chase each other and fight for dominance. This one is tending a female, staying close by as she will soon be receptive to mating. at Lamar Valley

First ever career venomous snake sighting courtesy of this mild mannered copperhead. According to SL Russell, resident herpetologist, these baby ones are the most dangerous cause they don't know how to let go and they'll pump you full of poison. #wildlifewednesday

Life can be a struggle especially when your only 2 feet tall standing up! I watched these 2 Bear Cubs trying so hard to get at the Saskatoon berries but they were just out of reach... eventually their mom came over and would pull down branches and hold them down so her baby's could eat.. it was pretty cool to see! . . . . . . . #blackbears #bear #makefurhistory #wildlife #earthcapture #bantrapping #wildlifephotographer #wildlifephotography #wildlifewednesday #nature_sultans #naturelovers #animal_sultans #snap_wildlife #explorecanada #imagesofcanada #canada #sharecangeo #wildlife_perfection #wildlife_seekers #becausecanada #okanaganphotographer #igscwildlife #canadiancreatives @cwf_fcf #explorebc @cbc #opcmag #bearsofinstagram #bears #hellobc #beautifulbritishcolumbia #cubs

"With huge size comes a huge appetite. Moose are browsers and will casually devour 73 pounds a day in the summer and 34 pounds in the winter. They eat an assortment of shrubs, woody plants, and aquatic vegetation; in the winter, their diet is more restricted, so they eat the buds of plants." A young Baird's Tapir in Corcovado national park. . . There are fewer than 5500 Baird's Tapir left and are classed as vulnerable. . . Tapir are so important for the health of the rainforest, they are considered the gardeners of the forest, that their loss would have a large impact on the rainforests we need and love. . . Winged Wildlife Wednesday: caught this beautiful hawk taking off from a fence post as I rode by on Sunday leaving Lima. The gravel backroads passing through open land of sagebrush yeild fantastic habitat for several species of raptors. I also saw a cow and calf moose and a herd of 10 or so Pronghorn through that same area! at Lima, Montana

You'd never know it, but this is actually a polar bear! It's Knut, the polar bear born at the Berlin Zoo and rejected by his mother, so raised by zookeepers. He had been rolling around in the dirt and looked very sad. Unfortunately he died in 2011, at only 5 years old, just a few years after this photo was taken. ______________________________ #europe #germany #berlin #berlinzoo #wildlifewednesday #bears #polarbear #travel #travelphoto #travelgram #travelpics #instatravel #vacation #holiday
