David Rockwell spoke to MBA candidates today at the @yalesom about how to combine craft, emotion, and technology. Thank you @jessicahelfand and @mbierut for having us at “The Design of Business/The Business of Design.” (Yale’s Beinecke Library 📸: @marissadesign)

#WhatWeMake 3/3: @belvederehotel was designed to transform from day to night. The outdoor restaurant spills into the pool area, an arrangement that allows poolside cabanas to seamlessly convert into intimate dining rooms. As night falls, custom-designed outdoor lanterns illuminate the landscaped setting into a nightclub.

#WhatWeMake 2/3: Guests at @BelvedereHotel discover a lounge flanked by curved plaster banquettes and rosewood screens, hand carved as if by sea currents. Custom metal-hammered globes emit a glittering light that is similar in effect to the sun seen underwater.

#WhatWeMake 1/3: What if light was your primary material? The renovation and expansion of one of Mykonos’ most beloved hotels, the @BelvedereHotel, combines transformative lighting with textures and materials inspired by the #AegeanSea.

We love #red, the hue of luck, love, energy, and power. Here it adds a pop of Mediterranean warmth in @gatonyc1's main dining room. #HappyValentinesDay

For the bathrooms at @dailyprov we designed custom wallpaper that illustrates the deli’s five "B” offerings: bread, booze, rotisserie birds, coffee beans, and breakfast. Read more about the big personality of this small space in @wallpaper, link in bio. #whatwemake 📷: @emily___andrews

"Coffee and food to eat in or take out are sold next to @unionsquarecafe from what may be about the smallest restaurant #DavidRockwell ever designed — some people have more spacious kitchens in their apartments." Great blurb on our new neighborhood favorite @dailyprov in the @nytimes today! 📷: @emily___andrews

It’s Oscars season so we’re throwing it back to the sets we designed for the Academy Awards show in 2009, when David Rockwell whipped up a new proscenium and a curtain comprised of more than 87,000 Swarovski crystals in a variety of shapes and sizes. 📸: AMPAS #throwbackthursday #TBT

Over the holidays, we partnered with Runa Klock and Bokhari, a nonprofit that helps create jobs for artisans and educational opportunities in Sultan Town, Pakistan. In exchange for a bag, a book was donated to the Laila & Amar School and College for Girls, which offers free education to over 650 Sultan Town students. Thank you to Bokhari for sharing this photo with us! Really made our day.

We’re at the brilliant @a_d_o_nyc in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, today. This new creative space for designers is hosting a #utopiavsdystopia conference with some of our favorites, like @alice.rawsthorn and @yvesbehar. #designacademy 📷: @lraskin

Our @labatrockwellgroup is brainstorming concepts for dreamlike skywalks and "cloud cities" in hot climates. Parks in the sky and giant waterfalls become interactive and immersive spectacles. #whatwemake
