Too many people fall into the trap of only working when motivated . This means you always need to have something in front of you to push you to work. A competition, a vacation, a wedding, summer... __
The problem with this is you only learn to push the pedal to the metal when there is a deadline. I'll say it until the day I die, but motivation is the most overrated tool there is. I would prioritize this on the back end of things you need to succeed at something.
It's those who can stay the course when unmotivated, remain objective with no sense of urgency and look at the process as a whole that find themselves making indefinite progress.
One of the greatest things you can learn to do is to Work Hard when noone is watching and to Work Hard when you don't feel motivated. Those times are far more frequent and further more far more important than any one specific date.
