Ministry of Health Embarks on the Process of revitalizing the National Adolescents Health Policy.
Today Tuesday April 4th 2018, UYAHF supported our partners Ministry of Health to convene a technical stakeholder status update meeting on the National Adolescents Health Policy.
The meeting chaired by the Ass. Commissioner Reproductive Health aimed towards updating stakeholders on the status of the review process of the National Adolescents Health Policy, understanding and discussing comments raised by MOH’s Health Policy Advisory Committee (HPAC) on the Policy in December 2018, taking a stand on whether the Policy should remain a Policy or strategy and importantly agreeing on next steps and a time frame for completing the remaining pieces to complete and present to HPAC for discussions.
The meeting unanimously agreed that we maintain the document as a policy and revise the language to fit policy language.
The meeting also listened to and discussed HPACH comments that largely focused on the content of the document to ensure that it address the broader Adolescents health issues with meaningful input from other sectors like ministry of education and ministry of gender. The comments also sought clarity on the policies interventions to End Teenage Pregnancy 🤰 and to address mental health and substance abuse issues that were not clearly spelt out.
The meeting agreed that a small technical working committee is put in place by the Ass. Commissioner Reproductive to review the draft policy and Integrate HPAC comments as well as address the the language to fit into policy language. The technical working Committe will be supported to hold a three Days retreat to discuss and review the draft policy.
The Committe has up to 4th June 2018 to be done with this assignment and the Ass. Commisoner will present the draft policy to HPAC.
