It’s a beach day for sure, but my legs and mind are turning for a mountain adventure. 4 weeks to go. #vista300mountain420 #biketech #biketechbroward #salsacycles #cutthroat #adventurebybike

When the #HillsboroLighthouse station began there was no indoor plumbing. Water was collected off each cottage roof and stored in their own cistern. The privy was on the back of their storehouses. #Onthisday in 1927 water was to the sinks and new flush toilets was installed. The main reason water was brought to the peninsula was from the lobbying efforts of Herbert Malcolm, the owner/founder of the #HillsboroClub next door. Malcolm and the lighthouse families were great friends and helped each other in any way they could. At this time we have no interior photos of the cottages or storehouses from this era, so what is pictured is the 1950 #USCG renovations. I am NOT ready to leave sunny Florida after spending a few days on a girls trip cruise around the Caribbean islands but I’ll be able to edit some gorgeous shoots that I got to do while I was out here for the next couple weeks! 🚢☀️ #fortlauderdaleweddingvideographer #miamiweddingvideographer #southernfloridaweddingvideographer #floridawedding #engagements #floridaengagements #hillsborolighthouse

The lighthouse always reminds me of my mom. Today I thought about her welcoming our good friend whose battle with cancer ended yesterday. My heart aches for my friend and her son left behind. 🙏🏼💔

Ben Franklin Stone married Annie Jane Dowling when he was an Assistant Engineer on the lightship Water Lily. A lightship basically was a floating #lighthouse. When the 1st Assistant Position opened at #Hillsborolighthouse Stone immediately put in a request for transfer. His 1st day of service was on May 29, 1924. The happy couple welcomed their first child Frederick Everett Stone #onthisday in 1925 in their cottage on the lighthouse grounds. This photo is of young Fred sitting atop a classic Ford. From our yearly trips with Granny to the lighthouse to today, watching you get married at the same lighthouse, I’m so glad you’re my cousin and I’m happy to be by your side. Even though Granny isn’t here, she is with us.

In the pre-GPS days, this was the high tech navigation system that ships used. When you see old photos of the lighthouse station you may see the tall antenna which was part of a radio beacon system. These beacons were part of many lighthouses; #Poncelighthouse to the north and #FoweyRocksLighthouse to the south for example. Each would emit a certain Morse code signal letter 6x/hour. Hillsboro broadcast the letter “Q” which was two dashes, a dot and a dash. Ships would receive the signal and using their charts would be able to triangulate their position. It was #onthisday in 1944 that the radio beacon at #HillsboroLighthouse first began operation.
