Tummy Tuesday! 💫 I’m talking all about the transverse abdominis muscle today in this 3-part video series (where yes, you even get to see my belly up close and personal! 💁‍♀️). . Watch and listen to the videos to find out: 1️⃣Where the muscle is and what it does. 2️⃣How to engage and find the muscle in your own body 3️⃣What it should look and feel like . Don’t get discouraged if it doesn’t come natural at first! . Instead, try some of these images/cues to help you out: 🔺Think or cinching in your waistline like you are trying to zip up a tight pair of pants👖 🔺Think of bringing your two hip points (your ASIS) closer towards each other. 🔺Think of your abdomen as Saran Wrap and just tighten it to get out the wrinkles. 🔺Think of a large belt or corset getting tightened around your low belly. . Here are some extra tips: 🔻Try not to clench your glutes, neck, shoulders, ribs, or anything else while you are contracting just your transverse abdominis. 🔻Make sure you aren’t holding your breath as you engage this muscle. You should be able to breathe, talks, sing, whatever! 🔻While this muscle spans from your ribs to your pelvis, you’ll be able to feel it best low in your abdominal region, between your navel and public bone at Spire Physical Therapy & Wellness

You want to ensure that both sides of the joint have strength so that you decrease perceived tightness and improve weakness at end ranges . . . Straight Arm Plank Facing down with hands under the shoulders. Lift the body so the only contact points are the hands and your toes on the floor. My second workout of the day was a HiiT finisher, focusing on metabolic conditioning, on the back ending of my push workout. I did 4 exercises, each a total of 5 times and worked for 20 seconds and rested for 10 seconds. So it’s maximum out put with little rest in between! My first work out of the day was ‘push’ two-sets this being shoulders/chest/triceps I set a timer for 15 minutes and did as many rotations of the 3 exercises as possible. Didn’t focus on going too heavy, as I wanted more reps per set. It was all about getting a ‘pump’ in the muscles! Sharing one of my fave, if not THE fave, abdominal exercises I do regularly. I used to always put this into people’s programmes back in my days of being a PT and they used to hate it 😂 but hate it because it’s hard! I used to do it with a stability ball but I don’t have one anymore so am using a yoga block instead. This version is actually even harder tbh but that just means it’s more effective! Crunches are ok, but they only work the rectus abdominus (the “six-pack” muscles). To really flatten the belly, and improve overall strength, you need to work the deep abdominals (transverse abdominus). These are done with planks, hovers, boat poses, etc. I grabbed a kettlebell and did a few sets of these exercises, followed by a few minutes of planks.
