Two months in, and even though I’m not even 1/3 of the way there, I have learnt so much and I just wanted to share with everyone my thoughts and reflections. . This surgery has really shown me that everything happens for a reason, and that it is up to us to decide if that reason is good or bad. . I believe that no matter how bad it is, or how tough it gets, you just have to find the light. It’s always there, you just have to search hard for it. 💥KNEE REHAB💥 . ✍️There is many common knee problems that arise in athletes: patellar tendinitis (“jumpers knee”) /tendinopathy, “patellofemoral pain syndrome”, and the list can go on ✔️. Here is some looks into @davesolano_ session addressing the knee complex. . 👮Starting off with input to the system via low level movement: knee IR/IR (i.e. tibial motion). Progressing to knee isometrics, which are great ways to improve the load bearing capacity of the targeted tissue (patellar tendon/ligament). First performing the isometrics in sitting, which decreases the amount of load/stress to the knee and progressing to the standing position. Note that there is a variety of ranges to be completed in the sitting position prior to jumping right to the standing position (which also has a variety of different angles to isometrically be loaded). . 👮Moving on to off-loading the knee and targeted the hip complex for strengthening: starting off with non-weight bearing (NWB) hip activation: side plank + clamshell: good for control/stability while lessening stress to the knee complex. Progressing to increasing load to the hip complex via KB deadlifts. Finishing off with SL balance (i.e. toe clocks) at the end. I like to incorporate balance challenges at the end of set/superset or while fatigued, which allows more ‘neural drive’ to balance the system. Day 30 • One month today I had my surgery, and it feels like it’s been months. • My leg exercises are progressing well. I’m now doing deep squats, I can jog (in small increments) despite my knee becoming tight after a course of time. • I’m carrying on my 100 Push-ups a day, pull ups in 10 rep increments, but I’m now trying new techniques. • The Hindu Push-up, I feel, makes me initiate intra-abdominal pressure more (putting less strain on my back), is a great complex movement (utilising a range of muscle groups) and there are much more benefits! • I have chosen to use this particular clip, as I have been doing this exercise for a couple of days, and have noticed straight away; a postural imbalance on my right side (whether that due to compensation of weight baring or otherwise), my flexibility (along the posterior chain) is flawed, because I can no longer extend my legs and back into a “stretching dog” position. • Conclusively, this will be the start benchmark of my yoga endeavour! • I will Work on my regaining of correct posture, the neurophysiological connection, with compliments of general breathing, movement and flexibility improvements! #phase2 #day30 #acl #acljourney #hindupushups #posture #imbalance #exercise #analysis #exercisescience #sportscience #yoga #endeavor #student #movement #strengthandconditioning #rehab #rehabilitation #anteriorcruciateligament #tear #reconstruction #recovery #challengeaccepted #university #experience at York

So this was last week 10weeks post op! My first question to my physio was can I start running yet? And the answer was in a few weeks... Now running was one thing I never thought I would miss and definitely took for granted when I could do it but omg now I can’t believe how much I want to run haha! So my next question was so how far away am I from pivoting? And the answer for that, still a few months! 😶😶 Pivoting is in everything that I do, so that is seriously hard not to do and that’s probably one of the most frustrating things! When I do something I like to do it 100% and right now I can’t do most of the thing I love or the things that ground me and that to be honest bloody sucks!! Such a long recovery process! Really testing my patience but at the same time teaching me to be more patient with myself haha! It’s really hard most of the time but I do know that it’ll be ok in a few months and I’ll be back to my normal soon.. just apart of the process I suppose! Crazy to think it’s already been nearly 6months since I injured my knee! What I’ve realised in this process too is that everyone struggle is significant to themselves, like I’ve had a lot of people say well your lucky it wasn’t this or you don’t have this or that, but at the end of the day.. this to me is my biggest struggle and biggest test and I can’t compare that to anyone else’s and I don’t want to because this is me and it’s mine to feel the way I want to feel about it! #FearlessInHeels | Day 5 | #SkaterPose • Owww-weeeee does this hit that quad/hip flexor! ACL knee is the straight leg. When I bent down, that knee pretty much told me it was going to be the one extended out and not bearing the squat. I have to say, to be able to HOLD my leg out like that... PT🙌🏾! Those weeks of hard work strengthened my quad/hip flexor to be able to pull this off. Amazing what our bodies are capable of. • Sidenote... anyone else LOVE how GREEN ✨💚✨everything is after the rain?!? 💥💥For parents of teenage kids💥💥 Today at Marion Footy Club there were two common questions from lots of parents.... . Is my child playing too much sport, and how can I help him/her avoid injury? . As children start to play multiple sports (footy, basketball and soccer seems to be a popular combo!), they often end up playing sport 6-7 days per week. This isn't necessarily a bad thing if they get time to adjust to all that sport. . Look at how much they did over summer (eg sport 2 days/wk), then look at their winter schedule (eg 6 days/wk). If they will be doubling their sporting load, try to add 1 extra day of sport every 2 weeks to allow their bodies to adjust, rather than make that big change all in 1 week. . . The other thing to do is watch out for growth spurts. During a growth spurt, consider reducing their sport by 1 day/week for a few weeks (eg skip 1 training, or skip 1 game per week), so their body has time to adjust to the changes, without overloading any muscles, ligaments, joints or attachment points. . Plenty of sport is absolutely fine (and generally a great thing!!!), but managing the physical load, and making adjustments during growth spurts are important to minimise injury. 👌 . Make sense? Mechanical axis of lower limb 😅 Also called Mikulicz line. Keeping it have many assets, because it's physiological movement, that develop load your body is more capable to bare. If that, that it's normalisation of muscle/fascia tension and work, thus blood and lymph flow, and thus less energy input - this inevitably lead to performance improvement. And from my point of view it's often very helpful with bunch of dysfunctions and disabilities considering not only limbs. . There's warmup called Fifa 11+ showing this axis. They demonstrate it right, but sadly athletes don't keep it properly after all. And there's another shortcoming with this warmup - planks... I strongly disadvise this kind of activity, especially when there's injury or dysfunction present 😀 . I know that every human being is different, but holding it will pay good for all, who can do it, and do it right. There always will be exceptions, plus sometimes you can't do it allready in stance, not to mention all kinds of sports. It's not so simple ;-) . On the photo - patient few years after ACL reconstruction, with knee pain occured after playing football. Lack of internal rotation and extension in hip joint and football is rather unfortunate combination for ACL ;-) . I'm aware that most people won't see the losing of axis, and even more, slight difference between two of those videos. But it's there ;-) . On the photo I marked center of knee cap and second metatarsal bone. The mechanical axis is mostly about keeping those two points in a line, without shifts, as arrows points out. Of course it's not all the issue, considering complicacy of each cases, such as hip joints range of motion limitations, joint structures, and other. . So on the first video patient is just cycling with axis initially set up. And he's loosing it, especially when knee is arising. Second one is just more attention and activation of deep pelvic floor. #Repost @robtrainsystems ・・・ It’s #MobilityMonday - let’s do this people! 🧘‍♂️ The cat/camel is an exercise I first learned about way back in 2003 when I was working with people in lower back pain. This is a great exercise for lower back health, and is great both early-on in an warm-up routine or to just loosen up throughout the day. 🧘‍♀️ Now let’s talk about how to get the most out of this awesome mobility drill: ☑️Start in an all-fours position with the hands underneath the shoulders, and the knees underneath the hips. ☑️EXHALE and round the spine from top to bottom. Think about pushing away from the floor, allowing the head and neck to come down, and pulling the pelvis up and underneath you. ☑️Inhale and extend the spine from top to bottom. I like to lift the head and neck, but don’t drive the extension too hard as this can be uncomfortable. ☑️One final note: DO NOT force anything here! Use the breath to gently drive the motion of flexion and extension through the spine. Cranking hard into either flexion or extension can irritate the back, so be fluid and relaxed in your movements. 🧘‍♂️ This is one of my favorite mobility drills, so give it a shot ASAP. Your back will thank you!

An exercise that I always make sure to do every Leg Day is the Single Leg Leg Press. It’s an exercise that I started doing during rehab after my ACL Surgery. What most people don’t realize is that just like they have a dominant hand or side, they also have a dominant leg. This exercise helps to correct muscle imbalances that build up over time from the dominant leg subconsciously taking on more of the weight.
