M64 - The Black Eye Galaxy M64 is a spiral galaxy located around 17 million light years away in the constellation Coma Berenices. The most notable feature of this isolated galaxy is the spectacular dark band of cosmic dust that lies in front of the nucleus, partially obscuring it and giving the galaxy its nickname. Only had one clear night in the entire month to image this, I wanted to get a few nights on it but got sick of waiting. 2h 48m 30s total integration time. Happy Saturday! This weekend we've got 5 fun facts about the Owl Nebula. 1. The Owl Nebula, also known as Messier 97, M97, or NGC 3587, lies approximately 2,030 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Ursa Major. 2. The Owl Nebula is approximately 8,000 years old. 3. The Owl Nebula is a planetary nebula - it has a dying star in the center pushing all of its outer layers into space. 4. The Owl Nebula is arranged in three concentric shells, with the outermost shell being about 20–30% larger than the inner shell. The owl-like appearance of the nebula is the result of an inner shell that is not circularly symmetric but instead forms a barrel-like structure aligned at an angle of 45° to the line of sight. 5. Although the Owl Nebula can not be seen with the naked eye, a faint image of it can be observed under remarkably good conditions with a small telescope or 20×80 binoculars. How many of these fun facts did you know? Got any more for us? Leave them down in the comments below. Also, feel free to tag @highpointscientific for a chance to have your picture featured. 📷: @chucksastrophotography #owlnebula #nebula #ursamajor #constellation #astronomy #telescope #telescopes #astrophotography #deepsky #deepskyobject #deepskyphotography #amateurastronomy #amateurastrophotography#backyardastronomy #astrophoto #astrophotographer #skyatnight #astronomyphotography #longexposure #longexpo #longexposureoftheday #longexposures #longexposurephotography #earthofficial #astronomyphotography #natgeoyourshot #natgeoastrophotography #nightskyphotography#universetoday #fantasticuniverse

The ravens and crows here are beautiful, magical and intelligent. They love shiny, jingly, sparkly, precious things and I am so happy about this Corvus constellation charm ring design as it honours those characteristics. This ring has so much movement and music it flashes and sparkles, if you left it on a picnic table and went for a swim in the lake you would find a black feather and no ring where you had left it. This one is going to Montreal. ❤️ these are solid sterling silver textured to look like an outer space object and are fifty. ⭐️❤️ #Corvus #starjewelry #amateurastronomy #skywatcher #skywatcherjewelry #constellation #constellationjewelry #stargazer #stargazerjewelry #astronomyart #astronomyartist #astronomyjewelry #deepsky #deepskyart #milkywayart #universe #starmap #starmapjewelry

I havent done astrophotography in a few monthes now, thats becouse i have been researching how to do it properly and saving up for new some new equipment. The centerpiece of this new equipment is a camera the zwo asi 533 mc-pro however i have bought a lott more then just that for example a off axis guider. There is just one slight problem i live rather far up north that means that at this time of year the sun essentialy dosent set, it does but even at midnight you can maybe se 5 stars if you really try to find them, basically its far to bright for deep sky astrophotgraphy. However it should be dark enough in August, so yeah im gonna be waiting two monthes to use my new equipment. Perhsps il be able to do a ISS transit or something while waiting. Either way the moon is thankfully quite bright and with some editing i can remove the blue of the sky (altho it did leave some artifacts). So i decided to try doing a Earthshine photo and im very happy with how it looks. However i defently still have room to improve but now atleast im using a proper camera and not just the cheapest camera i could find that semmed "good enough". #astro #astronomy #astrophotography #telescope #skywatchertelescope #skywatcher #telescopes #backyardastronomy #backyardastrophotography #space #universe #nasa #sky #nightsky #moon #earthshine #moonphotography #solarsystem #moonphoto #astro_photography_ #astro_photography #astrophoto #astronomi #moon #moonphases #begginerphotographer #begginerastrophotography #amaturephotography #amateurastronomy #amateurastrophotography #amateurastronomer

The member of the Leo Triplet that Messier didn’t spot, so it misses out on an M number. The slight distortion we can see in the shape is likely the result of the gravity of the other two Leo Triplet galaxies. Known in some parts as the Hamburger Galaxy, but I think there are a few that bare that nickname! Celestron CPC 925HD. ZWO ASI183MC Pro. 80x30 second exposures. Decent seeing conditions on May 7, 2020. Notes: The NNTZ Little Red Spot is at the central meridian. The North Equatorial Belt has lots of rifting. The Great Red Spot appears slightly egg-shaped. Have you noticed the Jupiter in the night sky yet? Last night, I went for an astrophotography hunt. It's not an easy thing to do in a city with as high level of light pollution as London has, especially in times when you can't use a public transport, but a bike helps to get at least to slightly less polluted areas. My main goal was to try and capture couple of wide shots as well as galaxies, but around ~1:30am I've noticed an unusually bright star rising above the horizon. My first thought was that it must be a satellite, but decided to check in case it was a planet. And, indeed it was! Turns out, Jupiter is currently getting really close to Earth and will be closest in around ~2 weeks, but you can already see it with a naked eye even in a city. I don't have a telescope, but even a 55-250 zoom lens turned out to be enough to capture not only the planet itself but also three of its moons. I know it might not seem like much - after all, it's a heavily cropped down version made with a regular camera and not the kind of Jupiter's images you might be used to from popular media. However, to me, being able to literally see a different planet from here, from Earth, always feels magical and fills the soul with awe. #space #spaceexploration #planet #planets #stargazing #solarsystem #astronomy #astrophotography #night #nightsky #nightlife #sky #exploration #amateurastronomy

The Eastern Veil Nebula is a supernova remnant in the constellation of Cygnus. The star which went into a supernova had a mass of 20 suns, which happened between the last 10000 to 20000 years. Current measurements show up that the distance should be around 2400ly. While the NGC6995 is easy to capture the right areas with its fine filaments are a challenge. The visible light spectrums reach from low IR to high UV. The nebula appears red with a bluish glance at the edges. . This time i tried the Baader UHC-S filter. The results are okay. Missing a little bit of light in the center, esp. NGC6979, which has less structure and color. But all in all i am happy with the result. . October of 2014 I took a road trip with @manda1panda & @wyatt_artdesign to the Grand Canyon. We made it just in time for sunset before heading to the hotel. I had always wanted to see the Milkyway and when it came time they both fell asleep so I ventured back and sure enough you could just barely see it. I snapped a couple photos and bam! There it was. The first time i ever saw any details of the MW and I got hooked. I was so excited and wanted to show anyone around but no one was there. #Alleswirdgut . . . . #Moon #Sunset #Sun #Landschaft #Landscape #Skyscape #Nightscape #Sonne #Abendhimmel #Nightsky #Dämmerung #Ingelheim #Astronomy #Astronomie #Astrofotografie #Astrophotography #Hobbyastronomie #amateurastronomy

Supernova 2020jfo in M61 I was able to capture 2 nights of imaging on this one on May 12th and May 16th, 6 and 10 days after it was first discovered on May 6th so I think I was able to capture it on both sides of the light curve, while it was still brightening and as it was dimming. I couldn’t tell much of a difference in brightness between the 2 observation sessions. I was hoping to get another night in to see it dimming further but the weather hasn’t been cooperative. M61 is 52 million light years away and is considered to be a starburst galaxy, meaning it has a high rate of star formation. This high rate of star formation also means that the galaxy is more active in terms of supernova because it is producing more large blue stars with short lives. Scientists have observed 7 supernova in M61 since the 1960s. For comparison the last recorded supernova in the Milky Way was in 1604. M61 is a beautiful barred spiral galaxy. I wish I had more focal length to get a bit more resolution on it and do it more justice. I’m beginning to crave more focal length and am thinking my next astrophotography purchase is going to be a long focal length SCT like the Celestron Edge 8 or 9.25…. if anyone has had any experience with this type of upgrade (Nexstar 6se to Edge 8 or 9.25) and whether it was worth it I’d love to hear your thoughts. The moon in St Louis last night 1) A composite image of several exposures to reduce noise and increase overall detail. 2) Single exposure showing detailed craters. 3) By blowing up the exposure we can see that the entire moon is technically visible, we also see foreground clouds. Goes to show that you don’t need any super fancy equipment to get decent results, even in less than ideal conditions. Camera used was an EOS M3 with a 200mm lens. #astrophotography #astronomy #amateurastronomy
