This memory popped yesterday. I love being reminded of how far my guy has come. We’ve had so many of these since then. Alejandro uses a lot of scripting - it’s still the majority of his speech. The thing I love most about it is how he uses it. He has an incredible memory and can apply scripts to any situation! It was just 3 years ago we learned he was in the lowest percentile for receptive and expressive language. His progress is nothing short of incredible! #autismacceptance #advocatelikeamother #progress

Panto day....Sleeping beauty Wow wow wow !!! We’ve had an amazing afternoon at The @wyverntheatre watching this years pantomime. . Earlier in the year I wrote about how much we’d enjoyed last years & how one member of the team did something to make our day. As an autism family we appreciate any show of support or inclusion & celebrate it. We later received an email to offer us tickets to sleeping beauty’s opening weekend as part of their magic moments. . We have not been disappointed. The cast, The set, The music was all brilliant. Our Thomas used to love watching Show me, Show with Chris Jarvis on @cbeebieshq when he was younger so he was so excited the whole way through the show. Hand flapping and super smiley. He played the delightful Happy Harry. @michelledcollins did just as great as this year “baddie” Carabosse. But I have to say a massive shout out to Fairy Flora (played by Julie Yammanee) Her voice & stage presence was astounding. Nanny Nutkins (played by Matthew Rixon) had the audience in hysterics. . I honestly didn’t think that last years could be topped but it was brilliant !! Miss S even won a huge flamingo puppet too. The theatre staff as always were second to none. Helpful, Cheery & Full of smiles. hey everybody! i've never really done a review type thing before, but recently @fidgetsbyjack reached out and asked me to do a review on one of their chewie necklaces. this one has three little rubber balls, which are quite strong and would be good for people who tend to chew quite strongly. sometimes the string can get caught on your mouth, and that takes a while to get used to, but i personally don't mind it too much. there is a magnetic clasp at the back of the necklace which makes it very easy to take on and off, and necklace clasps usually irritate my neck but this one doesn't at all. i like this necklace a lot, because it looks just like a normal necklace so won't attract too much attention of rude questions, like some of my other ones. chewing i find to be very calming, and if any of you feel the same i would recommend you look through jack's shop, because they're very quality stim toys at very good prices. jack also does personalised necklaces, with pride colour schemes for example, so you guys should totally go have a look i hope you guys don't mind me doing reviews like this! i just want to do my bit to shine a light on autistic creators, and i'm grateful for jack giving me this opportunity to try this out! thank you for the support as always guys - katie 🌸

"Patterns are everywhere, and hyperlexic children see them before most people. Grammar is full of inconsistent rules and verb forms that hyperlexics are not able to categorize and apply correctly. But they can learn those rules and verb forms through patterns." (this quote is from the book "Reading Too Soon")⠀ .⠀ The same goes for WH questions.⠀ .⠀ You need to explicitly teach them the patterns involved in answering WH questions.⠀ .⠀ For instance, teach them that when they are asked a "who" question, they should respond with a person. Or that when they are asked a "when" question, they should respond with a time or date.⠀ .⠀ And if you are familiar with my blog, then you know I've got some free printables to help! 😂 I've got some WH question word cards that explain what each type of question asks for. And I also have some printables that teach some of the WH question-answer patterns and give your child a chance to practice. If you want to check them out, then just let me know.⠀ .⠀ To learn more about hyperlexia, grab a copy of the FREE Hyperlexia Handbook from the link in my profile.
