Balancing my Kapha imbalance with a warming, spiced Dahl 😋 . I have been feeling completely knackered lately, the kind of heavy fatigue that hits you like a brick wall. Along with that I have had a lack of motivation, feeling tired after a full nights sleep as well as irritable and impatient. . Turning to Ayurveda and changing some of the things I have been eating, along with other lifestyle tweaks has given me more energy, increased happiness and I have even lost a couple of pounds! 😁

You are GOLD . Here’s a yummy recipe for a easy golden milk porridge. This is such a perfect breakfast for this time of year as it is packed with immune boosting ingredients plus the real win is it’s like a warm soul hug on a cold morning . In a pan bring to a simmer the following ingredients - preferably organic . 1/2 Cup of Almond Milk (or any nut milk) 1/2 Cup of Water 1/2 tsp Ground Turmeric 1/4 tsp Ground Cinnamon 1/8 tsp Ground Cardamom 1/8 tsp Black Pepper 1/4 tsp Coconut Oil . Simmer (not boil) for around 5 mins then add . 1/2 Cup of Porridge Oats 2 Chopped Dates 1 tbsp Hemp or Chia Seeds 1 tbsp Flaked Almonds . Stir and simmer until your desired consistency. While the milk or oats are simmering you can prep the apples. . Peel and chop 2 apples place In a pan with, 1/2 tsp coconut sugar (or maple) 1/2 tsp of cinnamon, 1/4 tsp fennel, 1/4 tsp nutmeg, a dash of water and simmer until soft and golden! . Remove the porridge from the heat I add 1 capsule of Ashwagandha, 1 Capsule of Shatavari and 1 tsp Local honey . Stir well and serve, add your apples and choice of nuts, seeds or coconut. Yummmmy . . When fall weather comes, our bodies need warm, nurturing foods to stay balanced. Sweet potatoes are filled with vitamins/ minerals and tonify the kidneys/ adrenals. They are good for eyesight and are anti-inflammatory and filled with anti-oxidants. Their high fiber content promotes a healthy digestive system. Plus, they are delicious! INGREDIENTS Sweet potatoes - One medium-sized per person. Coconut Oil – 2 Tbs. Himalaya Salt – 1/8 tsp . Black Pepper fine ground – 1/8 tsp Rosemary – ¾ tsp Basil – ¼ tsp Tarragon ¼ tsp Dill ¼ tsp Those of you who prefer spicy foods, can also sprinkle on some cayenne pepper. Directions: Preheat oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Cut the sweet potatoes into fry-shaped strips. Cut them into similarly sized strips so the fries bake evenly. Oil a non stick baking sheet and place the raw fries on the baking sheet. Arrange the fries in a single layer and avoid overcrowding them otherwise they won’t get crispy. Melt and pour the coconut oil over the fries, so that they are lightly/ evenly coated. Sprinkle the salt, pepper, and garlic equally over the fries. Bake 15 minutes. Then flip the fries so they can cook equally on both sides. Bake for another 10 to 15 minutes or until the fries are crispy. It's essential to bake them long enough otherwise they won't be crispy. A very sleepy but yet multi-tasking Hannah serving up an insanely good Kitchari recipe for ya 👩🏼‍🍳 • Cilantro Pesto for Kitchari: A bunch of organic cilantro 1/4 liquid coconut oil 1/4-1/2 cup filtered water 1 1/2 tablespoons ginger ~Blend in food processor~ • Add to a pot of fragrant... 1 tablespoon ghee 4 cloves 3-4 cardamom pods 2 pieces of bay leaves • Then combine with... 3/4 cup split or whole mung 1/2-1/4 cup white basmati rice (Best to rinse these thoroughly and soak together overnight) Drain any water and add to your cilantro pesto in pot. • Bring to a boil and then cover, also lower heat to a simmer stirring occasionally until thick, then add Himalayan salt to finish.✨✨✌🏽 Happy Sunday 🙏🏽 With 🧡 & Gratitude, ~Hannah #healthwhannah

Kitchari with Red Lentils and Rice 🍲✨ Kitchari is a dish used in Ayurvedic cooking. It’s usually a mixture of basmati rice and mung dal (or lentils) along with vegetables and spices. The dish is comforting, nourishing and easy to digest. It can be made in various ways and it can be balancing for all three ayurvedic constitutions/doshas.✨ . Ingredients: •basmati rice (1 dl) •red lentils (1 dl) •water (for soaking) •water (1 l) •chicken stock (1 l, you can use vegetable stock or more water instead) •onion (1/2, chopped) •carrot (1 big or 2 small, chopped ) •celery (2-3 sticks, chopped) •spinach (a handful, you can use kale as well) •cumin seeds (2 tsp) •ground turmeric (1 tsp) •ground coriander (1/2 tsp) •fresh ginger (about 2 cm, grated) •ghee (2 Tbsp) •sea salt (to taste) •fresh coriander (to garnish, you can use parsley as well) . Directions: Soak the lentils and the rice (separately) in water for 2-3 hours. Drain and rinse well. Place them in a large pan and add water and stock. Bring to a boil then reduce the heat and let the mixture simmer for 45-60 minutes. After about 30 minutes of cooking you can add the carrot, celery and spinach/kale. Heat ghee in a separate pan (medium-high heat). Add cumin seeds and cook for about a minute. Add ginger and onion and cook for 2 more minutes before adding the rest of the spices and mixing well. Stir the spice-mixture into the cooked rice, lentil and veggies dish. Add salt and chopped coriander or parsley before serving. Autumn brings with it a predominance of the Air element - dry, rough, windy, erratic... qualities shared by the Vata dosha in Ayurveda. Our diet can be a powerful way to soothe excess Vata. Aslında bu karışım sadece baharat karışımı; Zerdeçal, Tarçın, Zencefil, Karabiber ve Vanilya Çubuğu Tozu var içinde. Ayurvedik bir toz ve bu geçiş mevsiminde harika bir doğal takviye. Elbette evde de kolaylıkla hazırlanabilir, ben hazır karışımı bulunca aldım; çünkü @meleztea ürünlerinin içerikleri son derece temiz 👍 Fotoğraf zaten reklam çekimi gibi olmuş, bir de böyle yazınca iyice reklama girdi ama valla çıktığı ilk günden beri seviyorum Melez Tea çaylarını ve böyle diğer ürünlerini. Virechana, among the 5 Panchkarma is therapeutic purgation. In this, the doshas accumulated in the body are brought to gastrointestinal tract and are evacuated through the anal route. Generally, the word virechana means expulsion. So there are different terms like shirovirechana etc to explain that there is expulsion of doshas. But mainly, purgation therapy is known by this name. This is also indicated in Sharad Ritu along with Raktmokshan, as 'pitta prakopa' is seen in the body at this time showing its various ill effects like loss of appetite, hyperacidity, skin allergies, burning, irritation and other pitta disorders. This aggravated pitta is mainly treated by virechana therapy. Virechan may be mridu(soft), madhyam (medium), or tikshna( maximal) depending upon the degree of doshik imbalance. It's mainly indicated in chronic fever, skin diseases like psoriasis, recurring allergies, fistula, hemorrhoids, thyroid disorders, mouth sores, infertility etc and ofcourse as a seasonal cleansing regime of body. Dadimadi Gritham Dadimadi refers to pomegranate and Gritham means ghee (clarified butter) in Sanskrit. Dadimadi Gritham is essentially a type of ghee which has medicinal properties. This is used in pre - preparatory stage of various ayurvedic processes like panchakarma ( a detoxifying process).. It purifies the body of all its toxins and snehakarma which is used to treat cold, cough, anaemia and also improves digestion strength. Ingredients 250 gms of homemade ghee 1 litre of pomegranate juice Method In a pan add the ghee bring it to boil add the juice and stir on a slow flame till, the liquid is reduced to one fourth of its initial quantity. Food glorious food. During my three weeks at the Ayurvedic centre I stayed at in India I simply enjoyed eating, wholesome nourishing real food, well balanced and easy to digest. Calming music played in the dining room and a beautiful light hearted energy infused all who ate, cooked and served there. I ate slower than I usually do and noticed over time I ate less but more enthusiastically, I became more aware of the taste of food and I confess I did on more than one occasion whisper sweet nothings to my food to my food such as “I love you” 😂 I’m a firm believer in eating real food that is easily digested and suited to your body type and that we also should enjoy our food. Unfortunately food has become a big head trip and is even being replaced by strange powder like substances in shiny packets... nothing can replace the wholesome goodness of nature’s perfect design. This was one of the place mats at the centre to remind us there is a lot more to health than tolerating things we don’t like just because they are “healthy”. Proper diet, exercise, and lifestyle promote balance and lead to a long, healthy life. Ayurveda offers a logical approach for determining a correct diet based upon an individual's constitution. This approach is quite different from the current Western definition of a balanced diet, based on eating proportionately from various food groups. Ayurvedic cooking is the art of making medicine for the body at each meal time. We have such a disconnect from food, its source, how to prepare it in a holistic way, what is and isn’t good for our particular body (with its unique vpk constitution, digestion, ama (toxin level), psychology), etc. . . While the science of cooking is vast, here are some simple principles that apply as general guidelines: . . -use the most local produce possible (high in prana + earth naturally produces what will balance the doshas according to seasonal changes + support farmers markets) . . -cook with good consciousness, not thinking about other things or upset, listening to ragas or mantra music - the consciousness of the cook enters into the food - this is why yogis are very careful who they accept food from . . -prepare meals fresh and hot - use low heat + longer cooking, vs high heat - for those with less time you can get a slow cooker and throw everything in before bed and then have prana-rich + fresh food for lunch when you awaken. . . -no microwaved, processed, or frozen foods - these are all “dead” foods . . -best to use clay pots for cooking, next best is stainless steel, cast iron, and copper. Do not use coated or synthetic cook-wear. . . -use ghee (best) or unrefined sesame oil (heating) / olive oil / coconut oil (cooling / sometimes clogging), never heat oil to its smoke point - it becomes rancid / toxic

ASHTANGA HRIDAYA, an ancient Ayurvedic work of seventh or eighth century, stands out amongst all the Ayurvedic treatises as a unique, precise, comprehensive and a clear text book for those who are invocated to the realm of Ayurveda.
