Back and bicep work. I’ve been incorporating a lot more machine work into my routine however I’m not using it as a replacement for free weight lifts. A common misconception is that machines are somehow equivalent to free weights and pound for pound I’ve found this to be untrue. Loading up a power squat machine with 8 plates and hitting it for sets of ten is not the same as loading a barbell, and trying to squat 405 lbs. Machines allow me to train in a variety of ways. Like incorporating drop sets, or working these lifts in at the end of my session to exhaust the muscle. 1 Rep Max of Zercher Pin Squat just messing around with 225. While I was midway through some sets of Rack Pulls at 315! Inspired by my buddy from Down Under @anime_athletics Afterwards I knocked out a few sets of Overhead Squats 115. Then finally finished up with some Power Cleans! Did 115 for 10 Reps, 135 for 8 Reps, 155 for 5 Reps, 185 for 3, 185 for 2, 195 for 1, 195 for 2, 185 for 2, 185 for 3, 155 for 5, 135 for 8, and 115 for 10. Awesome workout! I usually don’t post back pics because I feel that it’s my weakest body part but after really putting the focus on it and hitting it twice a week I am starting to see those sweet sweet gains 💪🏽 If you feel that you’re back is lagging, I cannot stress this enough, DO PULL UPS EVERYDAY. I end every workout with 4 sets of 8-12 and I’ve seen the most growth it the past couple months than I’ve ever seen before. And this was taken on a push day 😉

Regular wide pull-ups have not been feeling good on my left shoulder blade/lats these days. While I figure that out I’ve been relying heavily on incorporating these Slow Eccentric Weighted Chin Ups! Feels great with the full stretch of the lats on the bottom and squeezing everything with the upper back at the top 🤙 Give it a try! . . Also, if you sit down a lot like me during the day then incorporate Lower Back Hyperextensions into your warmup with focus on squeezing of the glutes! It’ll help alleviate lower back pain and get your posterior chain firing up properly overall 👍 . . Physique update coming soon. Still hitting the gym 4x a week and doing 1-2x 30min cardio sessions at my apartment gym. Eyeballing Calories (not macros) but starting to tighten that back up. Love this exercise simple and really targets those rear deltoids and back muscles Band Mid-Back Pull: - Standing with feet shoulder width apart, grab the band with each hand. - Holding hands straight out in front of you at shoulder height, pull the band open as arms go out to the sides and band comes in towards chest. Keep shoulders down. - Slowly release hands back to start position and repeat. Your body is much more resilient than you might think, and you’re in much more control than you might realize! - If you’re experiencing lower back pain with a barbell bent over row, for example, all you need to do is slide down the “lumbar stress” spectrum in Tony’s graph. It’s all about load and stress, and your body’s ability to handle and tolerate that load and stress. So, just by using dumbbells instead of a barbell, you might feel totally fine because you’re able to keep dumbbells in closer to your center of mass, thereby reducing the amount of lumbar stress on your system. - If dumbbells hurt, don’t sweat it. Keep working your way down - chest supported rows are a fantastic way to incorporate pulling that really, minimally stress the lumbar spine. This post is not going to talk about any new and cool way to perform a new exercise. The normal rowing movement works just fine. ...... But what I do encourage you to do is to slow things down a little bit, take the ego out a little bit and actually feel the muscle you intend to train. ..... The two movements that I have mastered and has contributed to my lower lat development are seated single arm cable rows and single arm , single arm diagonal cable pull down. All these two movements performed with lateral flexion. Will always give the credit to @christopher.barakat for putting me on to this last year. ..... To induce any sort of hypertrophy you need mechanical tension and mechanical tension occurs when you are activating the right muscle fiber through the right movement patterns. So the next time you are starting a new block, spend some time in your introductory week and master the movement. .....
