Yes yes yes! Restriction and deprivation lead down an ugly road of overeating and guilt. Say yes to the foods you love and want this weekend. Happy Friday! ✨ #Repost @chr1styharrison with @get_repost ・・・ When we feel out of control around food, diet culture’s solution is always more restriction. But is it really helping? The simple answer is no, and it's because our bodies respond to deprivation with an intense need to eat as much as possible, as soon as possible, even to the point of discomfort. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Sound familiar? This is the restrict-binge cycle at work, and it's why diets (including diet-culture-based “lifestyle changes”) will never, ever work in the ways that they promise to. They put your body on what I call The Restriction Pendulum, swinging back and forth between restriction and out-of-control eating. The only way to find true balance in your eating behaviors is to let go of the restriction. With time, patience, and support, eventually the pendulum will stop swinging and you’ll be able to find peace.

Diet Culture is all around us. You can't go on instagram, watch TV, do your grocery shopping, go to yoga (this actually happened to me this week and I was 🤬) without being told what you should eat. It's nearly impossible to escape this but there are a few ways to minimize the exposure. ✨Unfollow accounts and people that do not serve you ✨Don't open the magazine at the grocery checkout claiming you can lose ___ in ___ weeks ✨Find a new gym if you don't feel welcome and safe at your current gym ✨Stop watching TV shows that comment on weight or appearance ✨Be honest and upfront with family and friends who talk about dieting. Respectfully tell them it is triggering for you and you prefer they not discuss it with you . Remember, there are NO GOOD DIETS. Any "diet" or "lifestyle" that is encouraging you to ignore your body's needs/signals and instead eliminate an entire food group or macronutrient group, time your meals, take a supplement, etc. is not okay. These diets will not bring you more wellness or health. . Side note: I don't think people who talk about or advertise diets are bad people. I think they are very well intentioned however don't understand the negative impact they can have on someone's life. . As always, be kind and patient with yourself during this process. After years of being tangled up in diet culture you cannot become untangled in just one day.

We learn from a young age to categorize foods as good and bad. Even those of us that have been raised in a body/food neutral family have had some exposure to this whether it's been from magazines at the grocery store, TV shows, classmates or coworkers, instagram. This is that little voice that pops in your head at the restaurant that says "I want the mac and cheese but I should have the salad" or "I want the ice cream but I should have the sorbet". # # 💥This is diet culture people💥 But guess what?! There are no inherently good and bad foods! 🤯 # The "right" thing to select off the menu is the food that is going to leave you feeling comfortably full and satisfied☺️ Not the food that is going to leave you feeling empty and deprived🤬 # Our bodies are smart in the way that they will crave foods that are lacking. If you didn't get enough protein at breakfast - guess what your body will be asking for at lunch? PROTEIN! If you didn't get enough carbohydrates at lunch - guess what your body will be asking for at dinner? CARBS! 🤯 This is normal! This is your body working! So don't ignore these cravings. Don't avoid the mac and cheese just because you read somewhere 22 years ago that it was bad. # Practice treating all foods as morally equal. Like everything, this is a process. That little voice won't go away overnight. Be kind and patient with yourself during this process 💫

So you slept in instead of going to the gym because you were up until 2am studying🤷‍♀️ • You ate two cupcakes at that club meeting last week instead of one because they are your favorite and you couldn’t resist🤷‍♀️
• You went right from your job to class and didn’t have any time for that workout you had planned to do🤷‍♀️
• You didn’t plan on finishing your whole chipotle burrito bowl, but hey you were really feeling it so you ate it all anyway🤷‍♀️
• LET THESE THINGS GO. YOU ARE ONLY HUMAN. IT’S OKAY TO OVEREAT. IT’S OKAY TO MISS WORKOUT. What’s not okay is to beat yourself up over these things. Honestly, it’s probably a good thing to overeat once in a while because that’s a part of balance and your body probably needed that rest you gave it! • Sure, if you miss every workout, you might want to think about what’s causing this because endorphins are great for your mental health. And if you’re overeating at every meal, you might want to see if there’s something else going in your life on that’s causing emotional eating. But the occasional overindulgence or skipped workout is only our human nature.

If you love it, eat it. If you don’t care for it, take a pass. Simple words that require practice and patience. When you give yourself permission to eat all foods you might notice you don’t even care for many of those “forbidden foods” you have been avoiding (and if you do actually love them YAY!) This is a process, be kind to yourself as you unwind diet culture that is unknowingly weaved into your thinking 💜

Hallo ihr Lieben ❤❤❤ ich habe gedacht ich teile mit euch mal was mir dabei so hilft und wie ich es hinbekomme die Essstörung auch in Form der Bulimie zu bekämpfen. Ganz wichtig ist vor allem der Wille! Wenn der nicht zu 100% da ist, klappen die besten Vorsätze nicht. 🏳Gesellschaft: gemeinsames Kochen, zusammen essen und danach beisammen sitzen, kann helfen Mahlzeiten nicht zu erbrechen 🏳Ablenkung: nach dem Essen spazieren gehen, sich gezielt nach dem Essen zu verabreden oder Termine in die Zeit nach dem Essen legen. Weniger Zeit ergo weniger Zeit in EA zu rutschen 🏳positive Beschäftigungen: jeden Tag sich mit etwas beschäftigen das einen gut tut. Ständiges Grübeln, negative Gedanken, oder zu viel Zeit beeinflussen auch unser Essverhalten. Umso weniger strukturiert der Tag, desto unstrukturierter könnte auch das Essverhalten sein 🏳positive Herangehensweise: Sätze wie ich kann das nicht / das schaffe ich nicht/ das habe ich nicht verdient.. sind nicht hilfreich und beeinflussen uns wirklich bei der Ausführung! Stattdessen zu sich sagen, ich schaffe das und ich habe das Essen verdient! auch wenn es sich (noch) nicht so anfühlt 🏳Ziele: sich aber nicht nur welche machen, sondern sie sich immer wieder vor Augen halten! Hilft mir am meisten.. habt ihr den Wunsch etwas bestimmtes zu studieren? oder einen anderen Job? umzuziehen, eine Familie zu gründen? zu reisen? Das könnt ihr alles haben! Niemand hält uns zurück. Nur wir uns selbst wenn wir uns nicht mit den Nährstoffen versorgen die der Körper braucht. Oder wenn wir uns schaden. No matter what it is, food does not have the power to make you good or bad, well or unwell, clean or dirty. Food is food. - If you are moving away from diets, or disorder, I would guess that guilt has joined you at one meal or another. And I wish to invite you to challenge that. I invite you to identify and name the guilt as it arises, and to consciously disinvite it from joining you during your eating experiences. - This isn’t easy stuff. And it flies in the face of diet culture. To be well in this disorder the world, rebellion is necessary. If you have feelings of guilt related to food choices that you’re making, get curious about what’s actually going on. Are you comfortable? Do you need additional support? Where did the belief that guilt was an appropriate emotion in response to interaction with food come from? Does that believe still serve you today? Was even yours to begin with? - Food and body peace are possible. And to get there, we need to challenge the presence of guilt in our day-to-day interaction with food and body. By having a body, you have done nothing wrong. By feeding that body, you have done nothing wrong. Notice this sneaky emotion. And challenge the heck out of it.

WARNING 🛑 RANT❗️ . . I’ve spent my entire career dreading social situations where the question “what do you do” is asked. I’ve lied plenty of times to avoid an awkward exchange of “will you put me on a diet?” followed by an explanation of “I’m not *that* kind of dietitian”. I recently decided to stop hiding this part of my life and instead use this as an opportunity to educate and advocate for Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating. . . While working a table for my husband’s business (@thegregmurray) this weekend I was asked the dreaded question. Despite explaining my simple approach to nutrition I became the target of many diet jokes throughout the 8 hour day 🙄“Kristen would never eat popcorn” {yes I do} “We should have brought Kristen apples” {I’d prefer popcorn} 🤯😤 My husband had to squeeze my leg under the table to keep me calm. . . 📣 SO LISTEN UP 📣 BREAKING NEWS: DIETITIANS EAT FOOD. PERIOD. . . Foods that’s look like 🍩🍿🎂🍦and foods that look like 🍎🍊🥕🥑🥦 . . Eating ALL foods is part of having a happy and healthy relationship with food. THIS. What are you going to do? Follow the crowd where resource is scarce. Or go the opposite way where you can create an abundance of resources. But wait, the crowd offers a lot of “friends,” no risk, a secure paycheck, time to have fun with friends, security, a couple of hours of work and then all the free time. The opposite route, it offers loneliness, risk, just enough money to get by,  self-doubt,  no social life, no security, people constantly putting you down, insecurity, failure after failure.. the list goes on. So what am I getting at? Obviously the way to go is security, that’s the way to make money….That is what society says.  What if you follow your passion, what if you take that leap, what if you actually believed in yourself? What is at the end of following the opposite route? Freaken time-freedom. Spending time how YOU want to spend it 24/7. You want to go on that trip, well guess what. You can. Those people who doubted you? They will be asking you how you did it. That loneliness? You will be surrounded by other people who took that same risk. It is NOT going to be easy, you will be living a scarce life going after an abundance life. In fact, you’ve probably been on a diet MANY times. And when you inevitably “fall off” of the diet, you most likely blame yourself for not having enough willpower. You hope that next time will be different. But how many times has this happened? And should you really have to make yourself miserable with overly-restrictive eating and exercise plans in order to look a way that can make you feel worthy and valued? How is it that nearly everyone in our society constantly goes through this and yet we have grown to see it as “normal”? # Health and body fat are not inextricably linked, despite what most of society believes and teaches us. This book breaks it down with studies and shows that the conflation of these 2 things is actually hugely damaging to health (mental and physical). It IS possible to be fat (or soft, or chubby, etc) and be healthy. Everyone deserves to live free of size-based discrimination. # The more times and the more harshly we diet the more it makes our metabolism efficient at storing body fat as well as causing a host of health issues. And women, of course, face greater pressures here than man due to societal expectations. For women of size, even more so. # If you’re ready to accept (or at least learn about) how you didn’t fail your New Years resolution, but your New Years resolution (and societal expectations and lessons about weight) has failed YOU...then I highly recommend this book.

I’ve wanted to quit more this past month more than ever before. I like keeping it real with you guys, so here it is. I first learned about Ellyn Satter (registered dietitian and psychotherapist) in 2010. Last night for dinner me & Mum made this Homemade mish-mash Chicken & Veggie Curry, which not to up ourselves too much, but it was SUPER DUPER AMAZING. The flavours were just on point. Me & Mum were pretty proud of this one. Really enjoyed making it with her! Beats any store brought or takeaway anyday. Dinner tonight after the gym & a long day of painting was a warming Sausage & Veggie Casserole with Mashed Spuds, Homemade by my Mum. Really nice when it’s so miserable out side 🥘🥔🧡 - - - This afternoon I went to the gym after a week of being away from it. I was very close to not going as I was still feeling drained & very cold, but I knew I wanted to at least try to give it a go as it may make me feel better. I will admit i only did just over half the amount I’d built up to in the last couple of weeks before my break & I only spent half my usual amount of time there, but I at least I was moving & did achieve a full body workout to some degree. Got to start somewhere after a little break & will get back to where I was in no time. Going to try & go again on Friday evening before I leave for my trip away to Cornwall on Saturday. Feeling a little tired still, but much better at the same time 💪🏻😇 Night Everyone!

It’s Hump Day! 🐪 Breakfast this morning - New combo for me of Natural Muesli with Apple & Milk 🍎🥛🧡 Boy I’ve missed having Muesli! - - - No porridge oats still meant for times of experimentation & I’m really happy I tried this out randomly! So so delicious & refreshing. Yay to having a full bag of Muesli in the cupboard! Think this might be a new go to of mine for a while until I run out of my big bag again & have to buy more! ☺️ - - - What’s in my Bowl if you’d like to try it out: • 45g Jordan’s Natural Muesli (contains fruits & nuts in which is super tasty) • 1 Royal Gala Apple cut into Chunks • 100ml of Milk of Choice - - - Going to try & make today a better day from yesterday - try to keep moving forward! Dad wants to paint his bedroom so will help him with that, will aim to get another piece of homework/revision for economics done, do the food shop with Mum, go back to the gym after a weeks break from it & also try my best to increase my food intake seriously. Late lunch/Dinner was a trip to @carluccios where I had the Penne Giardiniera Pasta Dish, with a slice of garlic bread too. It was some giant penne with a Courgette, Chilli, Garlic & Italian Cheese Mix paired with Fried Spinach Balls. I really enjoyed it & would 100% recommend 🙂🍝🥗💛 - - - Positive about today: • I didn’t pass out when getting my bloods done today! Hurray! In & out in under 15 minutes like the good old times of me getting blood drawn! Negative about today: • Therapy for my mental health didn’t leave me in the greatest of states today again. I just feel much worse off than when I went in & more trapped in it all. I don’t think therapy is the best thing for me as I just feel I’m getting no where with it & can’t see any direction anymore with coming out worse than I go in. I don’t know what to do to move forward but I do know things can’t keep going on the way things are🙍🏻‍♀️

Happy that i managed to finally pick up kiwis in the shopping this week - or ‘Monsters Eyes’ as I used to call them when I was little (& still do now 😝) I know it’s Toast Tuesday, but I had to give that a skip today - not feeling the greatest in my lower stomach so thought I’d load up on Fibre but do something a bit simpler. Is toast Wednesday acceptable? Anyway this fruit plate was still tasty as usual. Blood Tests next, then Therapy an hour later, probably home & continue with cleaning my room/revision or food shopping with my parents for the rest of the day. Hope everyone has a nice Tuesday ❤️

Breakfast this morning was a warm cosy bowl of Porridge topped with Banana & Blueberries on a dull rainy British day 🍌💙 Only sad thing is was it was the end of the bag of Porridge Oats so it was a smaller bowl than usual. Cry. But it was still super yum. Definitely off to the shops tomorrow to pick up more. This girl can’t live without her Porridge in the house 😱 - - - Plans today are just to help my dad paint our kitchen (hopefully not pass out from the fumes) & continue my big late spring clean of my room. I’m hoping having a few set tasks of what I want to do today might help lift me out of the ever lasting lull. Sometimes having distractions to take your mind of things is a good thing. Hi Everyone! Easter Monday marks the end of Easter 2018. Hope everyone has had a nice weekend 🙂💛 Today I’m going to start snacking on this big boy - Lindt Lindor Extra Dark Chocolate Easter Egg that my parents kindly got for me as a pressie. My brother also surprised me with a Ferrero Rocher Egg Stack, which I can add to the other large box I’m still finishing off! Definitely going to take me a while to get through these goodies! 😅🍫 Lindor Chocolate is definitely some of the nicest Chocolate out there & I love dark chocolate too. I don’t snack on it very often at all, but I certainly will dip into this & make sure to start incorporating more treats for myself. Happy Easter Sunday! 🐣💐❤️ Thought I’d post a snap of mine & my dad’s classic father/daughter bake of our Lemon & Strawberry Cheesecake that we made for our Easter Dessert today. Hopefully I’ll fit a slice in after dinner! 😇🍰🍓🧀 - - - This Sunday is just going to be a day spent with family: me, my brother, his little girl, my mum & my dad. We are going to just have a nice quiet Homemade Easter Sunday Roast Dinner & dessert in the afternoon. If we have time a walk might also happen if the weather stays nice & isn’t too chilly. Also must give each other our Easter eggs! I’m still feeling rather low, but I’m going to try my best to forget about things & enjoy the day as best I can. This morning I got the urge to have a huge clear out of my room & just get rid of all clutter - I think I fresh start of everything is what I need & will hopefully help make me feel the slightest bit better. Lunch today was one of my olde but goodie favourite combos: a Cucumber & Cheese (open) Sandwich 🥒🧀🥪 - - - Today has been another lull day so it’s another rest day: not very productive & skipped going to the gym again. I’m just still feeling so drained & all sorts of thoughts racing at 100mph - making it super hard to do anything. Clearly my body just needs to completely halt all together: to recharge & restore. But that’s ok. When this happens, you’ve just got to accept it & let it take place - listen to your body & what it really needs. If that means stop everything for a while, so be it. It’s not the end of the world. It doesn’t make you lazy or a bad person. Your long term health & well-being is so much more important than pushing yourself to the limit in the short run - unsustainably & burning out. Yesterdays breakfast 😋😊 scrambled eggs, black bread, white buns, sweet yeast bread, coffee ☕ and orange juice 🍊 . . Heute gab's eigentlich fast das gleiche nur statt Rühreier, gab's Ostereier zum Frühstück 🐣 . . Eier fand ich immer sehr sehr schwierig. Früher ein mal und heute gestehe ich mir ein, dass ich Rühreier mag und weiß auch, dass es nicht ungesund ist. Man kann wenn man will sich so vieles verbieten und schlecht reden und Angst davor haben. Am Anfang hatte ich so gut wie vor allem Angst. Eigentlich jedes Lebensmittel hat mich daran erinnert, wie ich ständig die Kontrolle verloren habe und immer und immer mehr gegessen habe und nie aufhören konnte um mich dann zu übergeben. Also dachte ich jedes mal, wenn ich das wieder esse, wird es wieder so laufen. Ich kann nicht genug davon bekommen, stopfe mich voll und so weiter.. in mir hat sich so eine Angst breit gemacht dass nichts mehr ging. Aber ich habe mich meiner Angst gestellt und wieder angefangen zu essen und mir damit gezeigt, dass es auch anders geht. Das es nicht an den Lebensmitteln liegt sondern alleine an meiner Angst und ☝️Einstellung. Die Einstellung ist das entscheidende dabei. Manchmal denke ich heute noch, puh das geht nicht, weil vielleicht würde ich mich wieder nicht stoppen können.. oder ich kann etwas nicht essen, weil es mich an bestimmte Situationen oder Menschen negativ erinnert. Aber das stimmt nicht. Da spielt mir die Angst einen Streich durch die Rechnung. Wie schön ist es doch frei zu sein? Und frei essen zu können, was man will auf was man Lust hat. Und das geht. Wir müssen uns nichts verbieten oder Angst haben! Als erstes muss man positiv denken. Die Angst ist da aber nur wenn man es versucht, kann man sie bekämpfen und schauen was passiert. Und vielleicht klappt es und man ist ein Stück freier. Und vllt klappt es nicht direkt, aber dann beim nächsten mal. Wichtig ist der Angst nicht zu viel Raum zu geben. Sondern sie zu sehen, und sich ihr ab und zu auch in den Weg zu stellen und gegen sie zu kämpfen. Damit man irgendwann frei von ihr ist 🕊🕊

Fridays dinner was Homemade Beef Burgers with Sweet Potato Fries & fried mushroom, onion & bell pepper mix. It was quite a bit of a jenga tower 😆🍔🍟🧡 - - - What’s on my Plate: • Pumpernickel Seeded Bread • Homemade Beef Mince Burger • Lettuce • Cheese Single • Ketchup (on Burger) • Homemade Sweet Potato Fries (seasoned with Sea salt, black pepper & cumin) • Fried Mushrooms, Onions & Peppers • Mayonnaise for dipping - - - It’s been a day of rest & lows for me, doing very little & I didn’t go to the gym like I usually do on a Friday as I wasn’t in town & couldn’t bring myself to get out. But I can’t dwell on that! My body needed to just stop & take some time for itself! Saturday is a new day & there’s nothing stopping me from doing things then instead! 🙂

Last night was a very rushed dinner of Turkey Meatballs in Mums Homemade Tomato & Mushroom Sauce with Wholemeal Spaghetti 🍝❤️ It was so rushed I even forgot to grate cheese to put on top! 😖🧀 And the sloppy splatters as well - whoops. But it was super tasty! - - - Yesterday evening I was invited by my brother to join him & a few of his friends at a small concert in town for a band he liked, so had to be at his place for a certain time. I’d slept the afternoon away to try & give me a better chance of feeling better for it, but it didn’t really help. I was still exhausted, drowsy & had a cloudy headache - standing at a concert with bright lights & people was the last thing I wanted. I felt so weak & anxious over something a few months ago would never have made me feel like this: rock concerts are my thing so I don’t know what’s happened 🙍🏻‍♀️ Getting ready was a challenge & so was getting out the door, so much so I almost didn’t leave the house. But my mum challenged my silly worries & negative thoughts, insisting that I don’t let this overcome me & prevent me from doing something I used to love. Sometimes you’ve just got to push yourself, as hard as it may be, to overcome times like that: try to keep moving forward with baby steps & not let the negative energy in you win to stop you from going out & enjoying yourself. YOU CAN DO IT! ❤️ I did struggle, but that’s not what matters. In the end I made & achieved going to the concert despite everything inside me screaming ‘NO’. Yes, I was drained & not able to fully able to join in but I got out of the house & enjoyed some loud ass rock music with my brother, which we all need to do in life every once in a while. 🙂🤘🏻 - - - Question: What’s your favourite type of music or artist? My favourite type of music is Rock/Heavy Metal (maybe a little bit of rap too 🙈), with one of my favourite bands definitely being Of Mice & Men!
