*Long post ahead* So I had a very bad night last night but it came with a silver lining, I work in an industry where making mistakes isn't really an option as it's fast paced and one mistake can disrupt a lot of things, so it's a case of you can always do better. • I train with my fencing coach 1 on 1 once per week, and train as a club twice per week, I'm always being told I can do better but get given various peices of advise which can contradict one another by people other than my coach. • This can get very overwhelming and I was so frustrated with myself for messing up so much whilst trying to please everyone, I even get frustrated with myself for messing up at the gym when it's for no one else's benefit but mine! • That's the reason I actually cut squats out of my plan, because I just couldn't do them right due to physiological imbalances and was so disheartened by it. I reviewed my plan last night and made some changes forcing me to do my squats again and really focus on getting them right, and here is the result! The bar isn't wonky and knocking me off balance and my form is 10 times better than before! • This may sound silly to a lot of you, but for me personally, this is a huge stepping stone. I wanted to prove to myself that I am capable of bettering myself and not to focus on what others think I should do. It gets too much at times, but that's when you need to step back and see what you can do to help yourself ✌

Pain is complex. . All people, whether they are physically active or not, will experience physical pain. How we choose to deal with this pain is thus extremely important, but largely mismanaged and misunderstood. . Pain does not always have a pinpointed biological cause. Many people experience pain in the absence of any diagnosable problem after having undergone physical examinations. This is reflected by terms such as “non-specific” lower back and knee pain coined by the medical community. . What is the deal with that? Well, this is where social and cultural theories on pain come in; to try explain what the body seemingly cannot. . Research has shown that our perception and understanding of our pain, or activities which we perceive as painful, dictate how we feel pain. These pre-conceived understandings can come from what we read, listen to, our social groups, emotions or ideology, to name a few. . If we have internalised that squats and deadlifts will hurt our back because our friends and people in positions of power have told us so, the chances are that we will feel pain squatting and deadlifting. . If we have tied our pain to our identity and defined our very personality by our pain, then the chances are that we will continue to be in pain. . Of course, injuries exist. But even in cases of measurable physical trauma, an empowered individual who feels positively about their future tends to fare better in the long run. . Pain experiences are real, and telling someone “it’s all in your head” is an irresponsible treatment strategy. I rarely pick up barbells because #kettlebells fulfill the bulk of my strength and conditioning needs... 👌 Buuuuut I was curious to see how competent my #deadlift is off the back of a few years of hinging being kept in the ballistic KB world (swings, cleans, snatches). 👊 After 2 sessions of greasing the groove, I’ve been able to hit a sumo lift of 2.1x my Bodyweight 🏋️‍♀️1st vid is today’s 150kg lift but HEAPS of technical improvement needed; wedging looks OK but chest fell away as I lifted and there’s some thoracic flexion. Dropped the weight to iron out those probs and get the practise back into high distinction territory (2nd vid). 🤜 Decided I’m going to see if I can slowly take my lift up to and try to hit 3x Bodyweight. Will take time but why not, feel like mixing it up!!! Likely do less than 20reps a week so there’s plenty of time & energy in the tank for my other training. 🤓 Then finished off today with some #antiglycolytic 13sec #EchoBike rounds to finish off the sess. 60sec rest intervals to recharge the alactic batteries (3rd vid). Was aiming for 20 rounds but I couldn’t keep my wattage above 1000 so pulled the plug after 10! Gotta know when the stop 🛑✋ at Agoga
