Depression is impacting our world in epidemic proportions... Christians are not immune to the emotional disease of depression. However, as believers in Jesus Christ, the way that we attempt to fight it might look differently than those who don’t enlist the power of their faith in the battle. There are, of course, different types of depression and these different types have various causes as well as various treatment options. I am not a PhD nor am I an MD with worldly credentials that give my voice expertise in this particular venue. I am just a girl who has overcome the dreaded emotional disease of depression. Now, in this season of my life, I deeply desire to help others who are fighting the onslaught of the blackness of heart and mind that I once knew so well. I fought a horrific battle with depression in my mid-30s and I have determined to be a voice of joy in all the years that I have left on this earth. My heart aches for people who find themselves in the vicious blitz that depression brings … I long to be a woman who understands, who listens, who encourages and who gives hope in the battle. I am determined not to waste my pain but to use it as a springboard for ministry. For me personally, my mental health suffers if I neglect one of the following for too long: diet, exercise, meditation, social connection, sleep. If I can keep those things in check then I’m generally in a really good place. . Reducing screen time, alcohol and stress can also be a massive help. . But sometimes you will be doing everything right and still your mental health can suffer. Just know that this is OK. We are complex individuals, all wired differently. . If you really are struggling then always reach out to someone. There are people that can help. Realise deeply that mental health problems are common and normal. . Meditation styles that trigger the Relaxation Response (the bodies opposite to the Fight or Flight mechanism) are proven to help with depression, anxiety and a whole host of other mental health issues. Started Keto a few weeks ago and I have to say I feel AMAZING! It has benefited me not only physically, but mentally as well. My energy has been through the roof, and I have never had such great mental clarity. Although I will not being doing Keto long term, this experience has been very successful for my mind and body. I’ve lost enough weight to where I can now maintain it. For me, the gym is about having great mental health, and to release any stresses that the day brings. Here's some reality, fat loss is hard, changing habits that keep you stuck in the same place is hard, I know exactly what it's like to be stuck in your head thinking your body sucks, I know what it feels like when you hurt all over, I know how it feels when you want to just hide in your house. I know how it feels to live in fear of the news and everything bad that happens in the world. I know what it feels like to struggle with depression behind closed doors. But I also know how good it feels to pull yourself up by the boot straps and let it all go. Lifting weights has given me a new confidence in myself that I never had my whole life. I no longer care what anyone thinks of MY body, Im still a work in progress, but my body is stronger than ever and does what I need it to now. The best of all is I know how to help others get there too, even if you think your body is broken, I can help you get strong. You have got to find your fire. It won't happen overnight, you have to do something for yourself everyday. Applebee's was what was for dinner after therapy. Haven't had seafood in a while, so I got the Thai Shrimp Salad 🥗🍤 came home and have been working on a paper due Friday. No, I'm no where near being done 😩 but I'm making myself head to bed soon so I get enough sleep to work more tomorrow. ~ ~ Evening snack (even though i was kind of full from dinner) was an apple with melted peanut butter. 🍎🍯 I have a doctor's appointment in the morning tomorrow, and I'm anxious because I haven't seen her or been weighed in 2 months, and I have no idea if I even gained weight or what I weigh. My world has been a little upside down lately, and it’s totally driving my blood sugars out of control. My sleep schedule has changed, I’m trying to juggle many different jobs, my normal routine is disrupted, and it’s all a bit overwhelming sometimes. . I too have caught myself saying things like, “I wish I looked like her” or “she is PERFECT. It’s so unfair” >>>Guys. I’m gonna let you in on a little secret— NOBODY is perfect!!!!!!! Everyone has their own insecurities, even that model you follow on Instagram. And if ya didn’t know it already, social media is just a highlight reel! That means it’s NOT real life. They’re only showing you what they WANT you to see— the happy, beautiful, sparkly version. But what you DONT see is that it probably took 900 tries to get that “perfect” selfie, turning at the best angles, with the best lighting and when they feel the most confident. . I get a TON of questions about why I started this whole coaching “thing”.... . . I became a veterinarian because I thought that was what I was supposed to do. Being raised by an orthopedic surgeon and registered nurse made me feel like any job I did that wasn’t some type of professional career meant I was a failure. So here I sit, with over a quarter million dollars in debt with a student loan bill that will never get paid on my “professional career “salary. And I did the low paying internship and residency. And I missed out on my kids growing up... countless practices, games, camps, tournaments and school events. I missed everything. I barely left home if it wasn’t to go to work. I came home exhausted and I had nothing to show for all my hard work. . . So I made a change. One that changed my ENTIRE life. 💕 Coaching has given me the chance to play with my puppy on sunny weekdays at the park while everyone else is at work. It’s given me the chance to surprise my baby girl at soccer games when she expected me to be working, because Mom’s ALWAYS at work. It’s given me new friends and a support system that helps me be SUCCESSFUL. It’s let me make bigger payments on my student loans so there is actually a light at the end of the tunnel 🙌🏻 . . Even more importantly, coaching has given me the self confidence to know that I can do ANYTHING that I want and that my dreams WILL come true. Dream puppy 🐶. Dream house 🏡. Dream vacations 🏝. Grateful that my campus is close to downtown where I can get food from anywhere quick 👍 Went to Sheetz and picked up a 6-inch Turkey sub with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, yellow mustard, plus an apple 🥪🍎 so far today's been busy but I participated well in all my classes and don't really feel run down. This season we've been talking about depression and how to deal with it and today we continue with practical tips for dealing with this menace, written from a place of personal victory over depression. Shall we... . . . . Speak to your emotions. Yes. Because they can hear you. They have no right messing you up that way. Speak some sense into your emotions the way Jesus spoke to the storm and command them to chill. And do that as soon as you feel the slightest strange emotion. As you speak to God telling Him how you feel, face those emotions and speak to them and back it up with your confessions. Go for a walk. Get some fresh hair. Remember these things are sometimes chemical build-ups the enemy takes advantage of so get out that door and do some natural things that can help and a walk has been proven to be a really good anti-depressant. Pamper yourself. Take yourself out often. Part of depressive feelings is that feeling of ‘no one cares’. Well someone does. God. And someone else too. You. Self love and self leadership are powerful. Love up on you and spoil yourself often, especially in pregnancy. It’s not easy to carry a baby around for nine months. You can’t even drop the load. Na God o. So go on a date night with God and your spouse if possible and spoil yourself. You deserve it joo. A note though, do not overindulge, especially on unhealthy food and spending too much money. Try to pamper yourself at places that will give you more healthy options especially in food and drinks and also go to places that might not necessarily be food and drinks, places like the beach, spa etc. Try not to overindulge so you don’t go on a guilt trip next. . . . . We continue next week. For now, please practice these above and other points previously listed and make a lifestyle of them . . I often get asked why I'm such an advocate for health and wellness. You see, I'm a lucky one. While I've had my share of fun times and parties, I never became an addict. I say that I'm lucky because addiction is a disease that runs in my family. Oddly enough, it seems to be the men on my moms side of the family who suffer. My grandpa died an alcoholic, my cousin overdosed and passed, and a few others who are sober and lucky to be alive. Addiction is never a disease that you beat...some are just able to keep it under control but it's always there waiting to rear it's ugly head with one bad choice. ~ There have been horrific accidents caused by my family members while under the influence and the pain and heartbreak in their lives that have spilled into those who love them has been unbearable at times. You see, it isn't just the addict who suffers. It's everyone who knows them, loves them, tries to help them, and even those who ignorantly judge them who suffer. ~ Because of my experiences with addiction, I chose to be an advocate for self love, health, wellness, exercise, living life to it's fullest potential, and breaking limited mindsets in order to achieve dreams. I believe that God placed me alongside many many addicts - some alive and a lot who have passed away - in order to second-hand experience their pain so that I can use that insight and compassion to help others. I'm blessed that I didn't become addicted. I'm lucky but so many others are not. ~ I don't really know how God is going to use me yet but for now, sharing on Facebook and with those of you that I know in "real life" is the best way that I know how to make a difference. I've been told that I should author a book and I might. I've started a blog so many times and not finished setting it up for whatever reason. What I do know is that no matter how God ends up using me for this message, it's important that I use my voice and share my story. I believe that's the most important thing that any of us can do. Usually I like salsa with my eggs, but this week is all about adding more probiotic-rich foods to my diet. I’m also desperate to boost my immune system right now thanks to my new job and my change in sleep patterns. So, I tried @traderjoes kimchi for a probiotic boost! A little tangy, a little crunchy, a little spicy, and a bit salty, the kimchi paired well with my cheese-less spinach/mushroom/onion omelette. Kimchi is also a great source of vitamin A and is rich in digestive enzymes, which makes your gut that much happier. Just watch your serving size due to the high sodium content (always treat as a condiment). . Buying tip: if you want all the probiotic goodness, make sure you are purchasing naturally fermented kimchi in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. Otherwise, all that good probiotic-rich bacteria may have been destroyed with heat (to make shelf-stable). The same goes for naturally fermented sauerkraut, pickles, or other fermented veggies. Up for a challenge? Make your own!! It’s actually much easier than you might think! . Autumn colours as we head back to the Picos de Europa. A 2.5 hour car journey allowed me time to draft out ideas for my next book whilst my friend did the driving. I will be bouncing ideas around and asking opinions shortly We set off from the Somiedo National Park in thick fog but as we took a walk in the hills behind our new village the sun rewarded us and the yellow and gold leaves on the trees positively dazzled.

The past few days have been pretty shitty and anxiety-filled, so today I'm hoping to turn all that around by having a good day today. I'm a hard worker, and really need to give myself more credit for all that I do, instead of dwelling on what I screw up on. Got up and exercised earlier, which let me clear my head and sweat out any lingering stress/bad feelings about classes. Then put my hair up, put some makeup on, and make this breakfast: 2 Egg Whites w/ spinach, and a mini parfait consisting of an apple and Activia yogurt!! Got the perfect mix of sweet and savory, since I couldn't decide what I wanted. 😁 Recently picked up UltraSun and started playing again after having a big strop over it. I honestly thought we were gonna get a new game I was such an idiot 😥😅 I thought ultra was going to be set in the future with more buildings and a new Island and gyms ect. But we just got the same game with a couple of bits added here an there. So now after leaving it for a while, I've decided to play it through with only my favs and Pokémon I haven't trained before like alolan raichu 😊 what did you guys think of the game? It was a disappointment at first but Pokémon games will always let me escape reality and make me smile ☺️

“I can’t lose weight at home” This was my mindset before I moved to a new city 45lbs heavier than I needed to be. I didn’t have my favorite group fitness classes or my favorite “gym friends” and I just couldn’t get myself to go to the gym on base. The truth is I was ashamed-ashamed of how I’d let myself go and somehow I thought I could just hide myself behind being busy at work, busy binge watching 📺 , and busy bing eating and drinking For six months nothing changed, matter-of-fact things did change—my depression got worse and turned into suicidal thoughts and of course I got heavier and more unhealthy I was at rock bottom in my life and in my health and I saw this girl on Instagram who was sharing her weight loss journey and I stalked her for those 6 months. She was mealprepping—-I was going thru the drive thru—She was exercising in her living room—I was sitting on the couch in my living room—she looked happy—I was miserable For 6 months I sat on the sidelines while I watched other people do the “things” that made them healthier and happier just because I had a mindset that one could NOT lose weight at home until that ONE day that I sent her a message that said I’m ready!! I mean this girl had never even heard of my name BUT I knew she had something that was working for her and I thought “what do I have to lose”. I think my biggest fear was that this chic would judge me for being at my worst but she didn’t judge and she welcomed me with open arms and I’ll forever be grateful to her—because she showed up everyday—I began to believe I could show up everyday so that day she gave me a gift—and now it’s my mission to share that gift with every Woman I can reach💜 If you follow me, you know that the gains you get from exercise is so much more mental than physical and exercise literally saved my life. It has been 10 weeks and I have followed the plan, not working out on the days we are supposed to rest our body, but this week I wanted to keep moving on some days...to just keep my mind and body busy. So my workout partner fell behind, and I went back a couple of days in my program to redo his with him to catch him up and to move my body. Part way through I was wondering why 🤔😂😂, but at the end we are always glad that we got it done!
