Day 241 #mentalhealthwalk 1.04m When I heard this load was going to be near my legal limit I was thinking it had to be a lot of double stacked Crossmembers. Thankfully I was wrong. There are some rails in the middle which are much heavier for their size. Double stacked Crossmembers in the summer heat can be a challenge. They look easy enough but they are very prone to sliding around. Not fun at all. They're coated with wax which is gooey in the heart but it saves us from tarping the load. June has been an interesting month. Many people I know who have a brain injury, or depression (or both) have been struggling. June hasn't been a month that I would expect that. I have reached out to people, and others have done the same to me. Times can be tough. Just as we need rain to make crops grow, we need the hard times to help us grow as well. We do come out stronger. Tough times do make us stronger. We learn, we survive, we push on as best we know how. When we are through that time we're more thankful, better educated and hourly more understanding. Most people that know me well, know I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder and severe Depression. I was in an extremely dark place for a couple years, but with unconditional love and support from family and friends I was able to get the help I needed, I have been on medication for the past year and a half which has been a life saver. 3 months ago I brought home this beautiful pup Luna which has been able to get me out of the house instead of staying in my room 24/7. I still have my bad days but I have learned skills and activities to mitigate those feelings. I want you to know that if you suffer from mental illness your not alone even though it does seem like that sometimes. 1/3 people have some sort of mental illness, the only way to stop the stigma attached to mental illness is to talk about it and be accepting and loving to everyone. I am always willing to listen if you need someone to talk too. #BellLetsTalk #EndTheStigma

Yesterday was one of the hardest days of my life. My kitty was supposed to go to the vet to get antibiotics for a possible UTI we thought he had on Friday, and my mom called me while I was at work telling me he had fluid in his chest and would probably have to be put to sleep. This weekend was supposed to be a fun girls weekend with drinks & laughs, with time with my family. Rushing home Friday night to see my cat for the last time before we brought him to the vet Saturday morning was the worst drive ever. I’ve never felt more impatient to get somewhere quickly. Now, I keep turning corners in my house and looking at his favorite spots to sun bathe, thinking he’ll be there waiting for me. I keep getting so excited to pet him and hang out with him, only to remember he isn’t here anymore. A lot of people lose their pets and grieve, so I know this feeling is temporary and that it is normal to be sad and confused. Grady was supposed to be fine after a few days, and he’s not. He was so happy last weekend when I came home briefly, and I feel so much guilt that I wasn’t here for him as much as I should’ve. It truly feels like a part of me is missing, and this is a really hard feeling to sit with. Grief in any form is incredibly hard to sit with, especially unexpectedly. Grady was a part of me. My favorite hello when I walked into my home. My morning snuggles keeping me from getting up and ready for class. My buddy following me around the house waiting for dinner. Grief is uncomfortable and difficult to process, but I am thankful that it took 21 years before I truly had to feel it at all. Most people are not so lucky. Thank you Grady for giving me love, always making me smile, and being the best thing that’s happened to me. I’ll see you one day again my little man!

This weekend was supposed to be a fun girls weekend with drinks & laughs, with time with my family. Rushing home Friday night to see my cat for the last time before we brought him to the vet Saturday morning was the worst drive ever. I’ve never felt more impatient to get somewhere quickly. Now, I keep turning corners in my house and looking at his favorite spots to sun bathe, thinking he’ll be there waiting for me. I keep getting so excited to pet him and hang out with him, only to remember he isn’t here anymore. A lot of people lose their pets and grieve, so I know this feeling is temporary and that it is normal to be sad and confused. Grady was supposed to be fine after a few days, and he’s not. He was so happy last weekend when I came home briefly, and I feel so much guilt that I wasn’t here for him as much as I should’ve. It truly feels like a part of me is missing, and this is a really hard feeling to sit with. Grief in any form is incredibly hard to sit with, especially unexpectedly. Grady was a part of me. My favorite hello when I walked into my home. My morning snuggles keeping me from getting up and ready for class. My buddy following me around the house waiting for dinner. Grief is uncomfortable and difficult to process, but I am thankful that it took 21 years before I truly had to feel it at all. Most people are not so lucky. Thank you Grady for giving me love, always making me smile, and being the best thing that’s happened to me. I’ll see you one day again my little man!)?>

Day 240 #mentalhealthwalk. 0.6m This picture is taken badly on purpose. It is a little embarrassing for me to show this supposed sweet corn patch. It's farming. Despite the lack of tilling in the fall and the cool temps in the spring, I thought I had it all together. I worked on my planter to correct the over-seeding from last year and I planted some double rows to experiment. I planted over 3 weeks to stage the corn harvest. The Mother Nature decided we didn't need any moisture. So the seed in the lower areas sprouted and the seed in drier areas didn't. So in the same row I have corn 10 inches high and corn that is only 1 inch high. That means we will have to walk each row several times instead of just a couple times. What's embarrassing is the planting job and weed control. I wish I could replant to correct my mistakes but I'll have to wait until next year. What is really interesting is that this area has never tilled up so nicely for me. That is a bonus. Every year in farming there's many variables. After harvest I'll know how it worked out in the end. Until then, I just do what I can and leave the rest to Mother Nature. Life isn't all about success. On social media the trend is to post how great everything is, or look how bad things are for me. There is good everywhere and there is bad everywhere. I want to post a balance. Talk about mental health and the challenges and also bring up positive things that those challenges have brought about. Make sure your friends and family know that you are not going to judge them. Make sure you check in on your friends that always tell you they are "ok". I use to be one of those people that always told people I was okay but behind closed doors I was drowning in my pain, just waiting for a way out. ⠀ ⠀ Don't tell people not to tell you if they are struggling with suicidal ideation or self harm. That is a sure way to make someone feel like they need to keep it all inside and when you're dealing with feelings that severe, it's so important to have people in your corner. Show up for the ones you love. Start having hard conversations on social media or if you aren't ready to do that, start having the hard conversations with your group of people. There are so many people struggling so the more we show up for one another the more lives we save. On Wednesday I “graduated” from another full round of Dialectic Behavioural Therapy. It was my third time doing all of the modules and my first time doing it at a private clinic. I started the first of three modules on January 9, the day my family found out that our dog, Gus, had 3-6 months to live after being diagnosed with Congestive Heart Failure. Gus is still alive today and DBT skills group has ended. Both Gus’s health decline and DBT have been emotional parts of my life for the last five and a half months. They have also been sources of wonderful learning and growth. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌼 Amidst tears, contact information sharing, and hugs from fellow group members, I felt a sense of pride and accomplishment as well as a deep sadness when group ended. On Wednesday nights (and on many other nights through email), I needed and still need a lot of help from my DBT coaches to work through hard emotions, dissociation, and action urges to partake in harmful behaviours. I am grateful for the group leaders, Natasha and Kyla from @DBTWinnipeg and Megan and Nadia for helping me through those tough moments and regularly reminding me that we were a DBT team. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌼 Skills group wouldn’t have been as impactful without my fellow group members who occupied the couches and chairs each Wednesday and graciously offered the wisdom they had gained from lived experience with pain to all of us in the room. We laughed and cried most Wednesdays. I won’t forget the learning and validation that happened there. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌼 So today, after a walk and a long swim to stay regulated, I am reflecting on the last five and a half months and their ups and downs. Gus has experienced complications with his health since Thursday that have led my family to plan to say goodbye to him sometime in the next week. We are sad yet grateful for the extra time we’ve had with our little guy and I am glad to have been learning skills to deal with this upcoming parting. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🌼 This past winter and spring were hard. I know for sure now that I can do hard things. I hope you will learn that about yourself too.

Our ambassador @withlovemarisaa telling it like it is!! 🧠🖤🧠 We are talking about it and we ARE making a difference!! . Someone said to me that it seems like having anxiety and/or depression is a trend these days...That everybody seems to have it. My response was: Yeah I see a trend too...but the trend isn’t people dealing with or suffering from anxiety and depression. That's been happening. The trend is people are talking about it openly. People are sharing their truths and that inspires others to do the same. I think it gives people the feeling that they are not alone in their fight...it gives us a sense of courage. So this is a “trend” I’m happy to be apart of. . I’ve struggled with postpartum depression for almost three years now. It can be hard. More than hard. And very lonely. It took time for me to really own my feelings and not feel ashamed. Once I started talking about it things got better for sure. I have my days, but for the most part I have figured out ways that work for me to deal and work through it. So ladies, there IS light at the end of tunnel when you're going through this. I encourage you to “be kind to your mind” — talk, scream, pray, exercise, laugh, write....do whatever you need to do to find your calm in the storm. Here's for pushing myself & for something new 🙌💪 I've been working out on and off for the past year and a half, but nothing I've taken seriously and not consistently. In the past, I've taken poor care of myself. Taking on three jobs at one time with a declining mental health- I have depression and anxiety. That's not something I'm afraid to say, come out with or have conversations about, because that dialogue needs to be mainstream. Truthfully, what saved my life was the education I got about mental health through media campaigns like @bell_letstalk when I was suffering alone and where I found inspiring people who had it all, but were going through the same things as I did, when I didn't want to acknowledge it in myself. And. When I finally got the help I need.. I found @zacharylevi at the beginning of my journey to recovery, self love, self care and acceptance. That's right. If you don't know him, you'll hear of him 😊❤ This amazing, big hearted man with so much love for people. Who preaches about mental health and his own journey to wellness. He's taught me so much in life and impacted me in the most positive of ways. I am a more vocal, more loving, more confident and strong person because of him. And one big difference I've seen in myself is certainly, that being vulnerable about things you struggle with is strength and through that strength you extend to other people, connections and important conversations can happen. Pushing myself through anxiety & fear to go see him at his events. Because the person that I am now and still growing into, is largely through his positive influence. Here's another positive impact and a challenge to myself. An accountability post to push myself out of my comfort zone to a more physically healthy and happy self. I'm trusting @flowsupps as my choice with that journey and of course, the person you need to love more than anyone, yourself. Here's to that journey. Day 239 #mentalhealthwalk 1hour Somehow I got roped into playing a game well past my bedtime! Hard to say no to cute girls. It's so easy to let other people ruin your day. It's also easy to let someone make your day. Sometimes that can be just minutes apart. I choose not to let others ruin my day. I also choose to let others make my day. I won't say that it is easy but I choose the positive. In some types of mental challenges it is a real hard thing to overcome negativity. Thoughts about the past. Hiding from the present. Afraid of the future. I can't live negative. I need all the positivity I can get in order to survive. Tomorrow will be even better. Feeling good today! My Facebook support group for those with bipolar, depression and/or anxiety is growing steadily and I did my first Facebook live in it today, which was a big step for me. I was so nervous and honestly, just before I went on, I nearly chickened out 😬 but I promised myself I’d do this, that I’d show up, and that I needed to share my story. So I did. Doing new things can be scary and your brain will try its hardest to tell you not to do it, or that you can’t do it, because it’s job is to keep you safe - but your brain isn’t always right. Sometimes it can lie to you and as many of us with a mental illness know, it can often be our worst enemy. So today, I invite you to try something new. You don’t need to do anything drastic like speak in front of a crowd if you’re a shy person, but even just trying a new flavour of ice cream and skipping on your go to flavour is a great start. If you’re living with a mental illness and would like support, strategies, inspiration and solidarity, I’d love to invite you to my Facebook support group - it’s possible to be happy and lead the life your deserve. Let’s talk about how last night I broke a 47hour+ fast during which I went to the gym twice with 5 fries and 5 nuggets just to feel like a complete failure for all the wrong reasons. . Let’s talk about how I’ve been struggling with mental health problems ever since high school. . Let’s talk about how stress, panic and anxiety can overtake every aspect of life and has prevented me from living life at it’s fullest. . Let’s talk about how some days I can’t get out of bed while other times I go days without sleeping. . Let’s talk about how sometimes I feel everything and other times I feel absolutely nothing at all. . Let’s talk about how at certain points of my life I haven’t been able to see the point of my life. . Let’s talk about how reckless and impulsive I can be. . Let’s talk about how I don’t always drink and smoke for the right reasons. I’ve abused various substances and at times have partied too hard to escape reality. . Let’s talk about how addiction has stolen time and so much more from my life. . Let’s talk about finally being clean for a moment just to relapse and have all the symptoms amplified and develop new ones alongside some unhealthy coping mechanisms. Recovery isn’t linear and is an everlasting mission. . Let's talk about how my mental health has negatively impacted those I love most in life.
