First it was meal replacement shakes (sorry, “Soylent”) — just a fancy rebrand of the SlimFast shakes 🤮 that were big in the ‘80s and ‘90s. . Then it was “prolonged water fasting” — or, as many folks will recognize it, extreme caloric restriction. 😬 . There’s almost no sketchy or downright disordered dietary trend Silicon Valley hasn’t put a fancy, futuristic spin on, huh? 🙃 Drinking "salt juice", “dopamine fasting,” you name it — over the past few years, San Fran's south side has this time honored tradition of taking some seriously unhealthy habits 👎🏻 and rebranding them as optimal, in a "biohacking" cool way. . Look, here’s the deal. I’m not a tech guy. My hacking 👨🏻‍💻 skills are pretty much limited to “randomly remembering the right password for an email account I haven’t checked since the pre-Facebook era.” 🤦🏻‍♂️ But on the other hand, Silicon Valley billionaires aren’t doctors 👨🏻‍⚕️, either. If you ask me to fix your computer, I can pull out all types of medical vernacular to sound like I know what I'm talking about, but I'm almost certainly going to leave your computer worse ❌ than when I started. So why again do we care what the computer geeks think is good for your health? . 🛑 You can seriously, seriously hurt yourself by following dietary advice from people who have as much nutritional education as I do hacking experience. 🛑 We need to vet our sources. Creamy Spinach Dip Stuffed Salmon 😛 Eat or Pass? 😍 📷: @cafedelites 👌 Check out @organicallyca for daily recipes 🍏 ---- Ingredients 🍱: Salmon: 4 skinless salmon fillets salt and pepper to season 2 tablespoons lemon juice 2 tablespoons olive oil divided 1 tablespoon unsalted butter Filling: 4 oz (120 g) cream cheese at room temp 4 oz (120 g) frozen spinach thawed 1/4 cup finely grated parmesan cheese 2 teaspoons minced garlic Salt and pepper, to taste Optional Garlic Butter: 1 tablespoon unsalted butter 1 tablespoon minced garlic 1 tablespoon lemon juice INSTRUCTIONS Place each salmon fillet on a flat surface. Season both sides with salt, pepper, 1 tablespoon olive oil and lemon juice. Cut a slit or pocket about 3/4 quarter of the way through, being careful not to cut all the way. Squeeze excess liquid out of the spinach discard liquid. In a medium-sized bowl, mix together the spinach, cream cheese, parmesan cheese and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Fill salmon 'pockets' with 1-2 tablespoons of the spinach dip, spreading evenly with the back of the spoon.

Have you ever been told that sweet potatoes are better for you than white potatoes? 🍠🥔 Until recently, we believed this too! It’s a common myth that has travelled around over the past few years. To address this, I’ve put together a quick breakdown on the differences and similarities ☺️ read below. - Great post by @thehealthylabel - Sweet potato 🍠⠀ • Member of ta different family (not a close relative to regular potatoes)⠀ ✅ Better source of vitamin C than white potatoes⠀ ✅ Much better source of vitamin A (one cup of SP meets over 100% of your daily vitamin A requirement)⠀ ✅ Slightly better source of fiber when compared by 100g - White potatoes 🥔⠀ ✅ Better source of iron and potassium than SP⠀ ✅ Better source of folate⠀ ✅ Higher in resistant starch, especially when cooked and cooled (a type of carbohydrate that promotes gut health and blood sugar control) - BOTH:⠀ ✅ Affordable, quality sources of carbohydrates⠀ ✅ Very similar in energy & macro composition⠀ ✅ You can absolutely eat and enjoy both as part of a balanced diet ✅ Extra note: both of them have a similar glycemic index and load depending on the cooking method. - White potatoes have been demonized due to the belief that they can inherently cause weight gain.
