This is a simple band movement that can wake up the smaller muscles surrounding your shoulder and thoracic spine. - When we spend all day rounded forward, the muscles that attach the shoulder blade to the ribcage can become inhibited. Some dude once told me that me (like *specifically* me) pregnant was “everyone’s birth control.” Well NEWS FLASH being pregnant is birth control 🤣. But also, what a d-bag. 🤔 • I am overwhelmingly happy this pregnancy because of my acceptance of myself, my gratefulness for another chance to carry a child, my body’s fitness, and to get to experience this stage of life with a mindset that is in-line with my values. I have been sick nearly non-stop this pregnancy (just one thing after another), my husband was deployed for the entire 2nd trimester, the FREAKEN GOVERNMENT IS STILL SHUT DOWN AND A DOG PUKED *IN* MY BED this morning... but never have I felt more in-tune with myself as a WOMAN & a MOTHER & a WIFE and those things make me feel beautiful AF. • Pregnancy doesn’t always FEEL beautiful (when everything hurts and you’re barfing in the toilet or complaining about your crotch like me😃)... but hot damn, I can tell you from experience it’s your mindset and how you choose to see yourself & your situation. Please speak to yourself with kindness. • PS In these pictures I have a fever, have just taken a shower for the first time in two days, am sneezing every 5 minutes and blowing my nose like crazy, I’m still working on cleaning up that vomit (I had a bunch of laundry in line first 🤣) and spent 3 hours on the couch with an antibiotic induced stomach ache, nausea, and headache. Lest you think I don’t know wtf I’m talking about 🤣🤣🤣. 👇🏻✨💚✨👇🏻 ・・・ MTHFR, B VITAMINS & MISCARRIAGE /// . MTHFR refers to a genetic variation in an enzyme involved in the metabolism of folate (which can also affect the metabolism of other B vitamins). . Due to the vital role of folate (and related B vitamins) in important processes of cell replication going on in pregnancy, especially early pregnancy in the closure of the neural tube, those with MTHFR variations face a higher rate of miscarriage. . In this study, 16 women with recurrent miscarriage (that's 3 or more in a row prior to 20 weeks gestation) who also have a MTHFR variation were given a combo of methylfolate, B6, and B12. (Methylfolate is a form of folate that can be metabolized well by the body, even if you have MTHFR variations.) . After 6 months, this combo of nutrients was shown to reduce levels of an inflammatory marker in their body known as homocysteine. . It also helped 7 of the 16 participants conceive and carry to term within 1 year. WOW! . Why is this study cool? 1) It uses the proper form of folate versus folic acid (surprisingly rare in research studies) 2) It uses a synergistic combo of B vitamins instead of trying to "fix" everything with folate alone 3) It illustrates the power of nutrition for a very common and heartbreaking problem. . It's estimated that 40-60% of the population have a variation in their MTHFR activity that reduces their ability to convert synthetic folic acid to its active form (folic acid is found in supplements/fortified foods, but does not occur naturally in foods). . If you're a fellow MTHFR mutant (Hi, welcome to the club!), you're better off getting your folate in the form of methylfolate (and/or folinic acid - note the extra "in"; it's different than folic acid!). You can also still utilize the natural folate found in #realfood, such as liver, leafy greens, legumes, and avocados (hooray!). . Check your supplements (such as prenatal vitamin/multivitamin or B vitamin supplements) to ensure you're getting the right form(s). Get myself dressed. 🐕 Take the dog for a short walk so she doesn’t go crazy while I’m gone all day. 🥙 Pack our lunches for the day. ⏰Work till 5. 🏡 Come home and make dinner. 🛀 Give even Gwen a bath, jammies, teeth, book, bed. 📱 Collapse on the couch, zone out on social media with zero energy of motivation to do anything else. 😴 This idealistic morning routine just doesn’t work for me. ☀️So instead of feeling bad or envious I am redefining what a morning routine is to me. ☕️ if I wake up early enough and can sip my coffee in silence for 10 minutes. ⏰ find 5 minutes during the day where I can reflect on things I’m grateful for. 🌙 Read before bed (working on this habit right now. ✨Include short bursts of time for me whenever the hell I can. 😆 Even with my day off today Gwen woke up as I was pouring coffee. I was trying to write down a few thoughts during her breakfast and it was super stressful her needing my attention every 15 seconds. And it took me 5x as long to write this post with her crawling all over me. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Ok! What does your morning routine look like?

I fly for a living. I have flown during all three pregnancies, both commercially and for the Navy. Along the way I have learned a few things to make flying more comfortable and to keep me healthy. Today I wanted wanted to share them with you! ⠀ 💡⠀ Hydration: Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate. Flying is already dehydrating but pregnancy makes it worse! I always drink 2-3 times as much water flying while pregnant then normally. My flights are normally 6-8 hrs long so I normally take two large hydroflasks and 1 smaller one full of water to drink during the flight. This normally results in lots of bathroom breaks. So if you are flying commercial grab an aisle seat.⠀ 💡⠀ Compression Socks or Leggings: Flying while pregnant increases your risk for blood clots. Wearing compression socks or pants will help the blood from pooling at your feet and lessen the risk of a blood clots. I typically wear my normal post run compression socks. On long flights I will wear my compression tights and socks! Luckily all my pregnancies have been in fall and winter so the extra layer under my flight suit never overheated me! ⠀ 💡⠀ Get up, walk around and stretch: Just like the compression socks moving around and stretching will help increase circulation. I try and get up at least once a hour. I like to do ankle rolls, forward folds and hamstring stretches. ⠀ 💡⠀ If you have any tips to add I would love to hear them! ⠀ at Florida

I talk to so many women desperate to get their pre baby body back that they jump right back into exercise and strict eating at full force. 😬 Here’s the thing... fat loss requires a lot of commitment and focus, managing stress and good quality sleep. See the problem? New moms have the opposite of all this. 🤯 Fat loss is a possible goal eventually but I really urge my new mamas to take the pressure OFF themselves and focus on the following. ✅Eat to nourish their body instead of immediately focusing on fat loss. ✅Move with walks, once appropriate, and basic strength movements. ✅Focus on pelvic floor and core health and recovery. ✅Getting extra sleep or rest whenever humanly possible. ✅Include any type of self care whether that is 5 minutes of silence, time outside or a bath. ⏰ I believe fat loss can become a suitable goal when a mom is out of a place of desperation and urgency and can enjoy the process without getting caught up in obsession and outcomes. 💗

DAD. Never did I think a title could transform me as much as this one has. From the moment he wakes up to the time he goes to sleep, IT'S ON. I show up for him because he deserves it; I show up for him because Meghan deserves it; I show up for him, because it fulfills me in every way. This video is us at PLAY. There's no hesitation in his movements, no second guessing. Something that I am consciously trying to make unconscious in my life. You can tell me "oh he's going to be a handful" and I say BRING IT ON. Having a strong willed, passionate and happy son is my only concern. He's fearless, spontaneous and has the funniest sense of humor (wonder where he got that 😉). It won't be long before I'm chasing him up a rock wall or coaching/cheering him on during sports games. This kid will move mountains. Meghan has impressed me immensely with her patience and attention to detail with Breck. Everything from his nutrition to sleep schedules and play time. We are becoming a better team every day and our journey has no boundaries. Life is for the taking and we're going back for seconds. We take the opportunity to hug and love on our SUN that lights up our days, every chance we get and I encourage all parents to do the same. Time is the one constant that we can never get back. Thank you @nicolemjardim! ・・・ Last year a huge study from the University of Copenhagen confirmed the link between hormonal contraceptives and depression. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ FINALLY!!! Confirmation (and vindication) for soooo many millions of women who have suffered birth control-induced mood problems and depression (myself included). ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ This wasn’t some flimsy study either – it included ONE MILLION Danish women between the ages of 15-34 and was done over the course of 13 years. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ The researchers found that women taking the combined birth control pill, (estrogen and progesterone), were 23% more likely to be diagnosed with depression and those using the progestin-only pill (also known as the mini pill) were 34% more likely. ⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ On the pill, no woman’s body is capable of functioning at its optimal level. The body has a delicate system of balance and each woman’s system is different, but the pill is a one-size-fits-all jam. 19 weeks pregnant, with a toddler home on a rainy day - this is what my movement looks like today. RP: @Nicole.leigh.foster One of my core values is Movement. I know I need to move my body on the daily to feel and be my best self My mindset around movement had to shift big time after I became a mom. Pre-Benji, I had to take a sweaty class or spend at least an hour working out for it to count. After Benji I didn’t have that freedom of time, so I just wasn’t doing anything at all because I had set a standard of what “counted” as movement. This is what my movement looks like some days. Rolling out my mat in our cozy living room to flow through the @birthfit Functional Progression while Benji plays with his cars. Did I break a sweat? Nope. Did I burn many calories? Nope. Did I get interrupted many times? Yep. But I moved my body with intention and connected to my breath and that is enough for today. 30 week BirthFit workout 👊🏻 One misconception about me is that I workout & eat kale all day. Um, no. First of all, I don’t like kale. Second of all, working out is the biggest way I’m able to manage my stress/anxiety. I haven’t experienced postpartum depression, but I’ve definitely had the baby blues throughout both pregnancies. With my first pregnancy I didn’t move my body that often, & my mental state plummeted. This time around I made a promise to myself to do everything I could to manage my stress & baby blues. Exercise, self-care, nature, reading, & practicing gratitude have helped me tremendously. Now my focus is to just continue these practices in the postpartum period, along with plenty of rest. ✌🏻 What do you do to manage your daily stressors?
