🙏🏾❤️ @carlatherealtor and I had the honor of meeting and talking with the great Earl Graves at the 2011 Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Expo in Atlanta, GA. Needless to say that experience changed my life. He was a trail blazer for publishing a business magazine for African Americans & set the bar! He was a leader, a giant, a kind man who knew his mission and fulfilled it. Thank you Mr. Graves. You're an inspiration! Sending prayers and love to all of his family and his BE family. #earlgravessr #ripearlgraves #blackenterprise #blackenterprisemagazine #legend #leader #trailblazer #blackentrepreneurs #blackentrepreneurship #blackleaders #beexpo

Freedom fighters, join us and our friend @mattmcgorry in helping the vulnerable folks who are incarcerated. They’re human too. — Hey governors — like @gavinnewsom (spelled the name wrong in my pic) in California, @nygovcuomo in New York, @govlarryhogan in Maryland, and @govpritzker in Illinois — please take the necessary steps to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in California's prisons and jails. Release those who are elderly and medically vulnerable. #LetThemGo Social distancing and careful hygiene practices that we’re practicing today are impossible in prisons and jails across our country. An outbreak in a jail or prison, which is inevitable because of the conditions there, also will inevitably spread into the broader community because of the flow of staff and others in and out of the facilities daily. Act now, governors. Save lives. PLEASE MAKE PHONE CALLS: GOV. NEWSOM: 916-445-2841 GOV. CUOMO: 518-474-8390 GOV. HOGAN: 410-974-3901 GOV. PRITZKER: 217-782-6830 We must prioritize public health. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) has introduced a bill to fund state efforts to safely reduce correctional populations to cope with the pandemic. If our leaders are serious about avoiding the worst-case scenarios that attend this virus, we must get our people out of jails and prisons. Today.

Hey IG fam, first I just want to apologize for not being more present & showing up more because I know now is the time we all need to be joining #inthistogether. For all my new connects soon I'll be dropping more about what I do, who I am and ways we can flourish together in the year ahead. In finally finding words after being quiet trying to wrap my head around all this... ___ I must say we watched ish get real real quick with COVID-19, let's not mention my 10 month old going through a new, unfamiliar stage of being clingy and mostly wanting his moma got real too 😅 Yes as a new mama I'm still learning, navigating and sometimes that in itself is challenging because I want to do more, feel like I should be and at the same time I don't want the guilt of not giving my all to my son or him missing anything 😩 (I'll be speaking more on introverted motherhood) ___ Offline, we have been flowing in faith. We've been blessed that hubby's income is still coming in & mine is still steady, at the same time I can't say business as usual because the nature of all work in some ways has shifted or looked a little differently due to this outbreak. I can't help but think without God's divine redirection for us both in the last 2 years we could've been in a much different place & completely devastated right now and for that I've been truly giving God praise 🙏🙌 ___ I've been more in tune with my immediate family & circle (still got more to get around to in my larger network) but I needed to ensure my inner unit was good before I could focus on the outer! See my mom was quarantined, 1 of my was brothers sick, 1 of my best friends & her family directly exposed, a childhood friend tested positive, an old college classmate's mother diagnosed and countless others were hit with anxiety and fear. __ I've been doing my best to stand in the gap while also having to get quiet, deep in prayer for God's healing on their behalf. I'm not hear to reassure everything is just fine or to tell you not to worry, I'm here to offer support and to encourage you to paradigm shift, to flow not force, to adapt find the opportunity in this for you. Need help with that, DM me. Until next time stay safe! 💜

The enemy does not want the Black man to protect, provide, kill for, uphold, and take responsibility for the Black woman.⠀ ⠀ He wants to take care of our women in the form of government assistance, and forbid we be anywhere in the picture while doing so.⠀ ⠀ He knows once we Black men take on our responsibility, WE UNITE and gain the piece of the chessboard we’ve been missing in order for us to go forth and conquer.⠀ ⠀ Follow @BLACKandMASCULINE #blackandmasculine for more on this subject, life, women and POWER ✊🏿

Thank you @speakingofracism for sharing this post to show the data for folks. —- Posted @speakingofracism@austinchanning Every now and then I still get asked questions about racial color blindness (ex: isn’t it better for us to just see one another as human)? So I usually begin with why this is problematic in interpersonal relationships. But my larger concern is *systemic* racial color blindness. It’s important that we track racial disparities and report racial disparities, so that we can support policy that would eliminate racial disparities.

As a black woman, I believe that white privilege is both due to a lack of awareness and an act of conscious choices. ... Before the Civil Rights Act of 1964, “white privilege” referred to legal and systemic advantages given to white people such as the right to vote and the right to buy a house in the neighborhood of choice. … Today, legislative bodies, corporate leaders and educators are still disproportionately white and often make conscious choices (laws, hiring practices, discipline procedures) that keep this cycle on repeat. ... White privilege also persists because it is psychological—a subconscious prejudice perpetuated by white people’s lack of awareness that they hold this power. ... One of the first steps to dismantling white privilege is through education that increases awareness. What do y’all think? . . . #UnitedStreetTours #blackhistory #changingthenarrative #inclusion #love #antiracism #nashville #nashvillehistory #musiccity #united #walkunited #tours #nashvilleblackhistory #Socialjustice #Racialjustice #Racism #Antiracist #Whitefragility #BlackLeaders #BlackLeadership #WhiteAllies #WhiteAlly #Allyship #Progressive #400Years #DoBetter #blacklivesmatter #feminist #feminism

The quintessential entrepreneur has passed away at the age of 85. Graves was widely considered to be the ultimate champion of #Blackbusiness, launching @blackenterprise in 1970 to not only chronicle the rise of African American entrepreneurs, but also provide the tools for African Americans to succeed in the business mainstream and “achieve their measure of the American dream”. His publication and conferences serve as catalysts in building Black wealth and networking opportunities. We thank you for your contributions to our culture, and will continue to carry on your legacy ✊🏽💼

Big Mo - Lil(Big) Mo Im slowly breaking these chains of bitterness. For those that don't know I was adopted & THAT took a toll on my connection to certain parts of my family. Reaching out to & reconnecting with family has been a release that I didn't know I needed as bad as I did. Saying I'm sorry and starting from the top sucks but I need this melody of my heart to sound a bit better then it did before. I don't do this to flex or put my business out on IG but more so as some encouragement for all that seek healing and see how bitterness can keep you from the people you truly love. I REFUSE to allow my pride, hurt, EXCUSES, etc hold me back from loving and becoming more Godly. I WILL BE God Like before my exit time comes. #MyBlood #siblings #growthmindset #brothers #God #forgiveness #love #blackleaders

OK, have I gotten your attention? Good, because I’m about to break something down that simply needs to be said. I’m directing this to both Black men and women in tech because Black men first were guilty of this sin and, if they are not careful, Black women will most likely make the same mistakes (leaving future generations of Black engineers struggling to find support as they enter and navigate tech careers). I don’t want it to come off that I’m personally exempt of this mistake; I’m guilty too. That being said, at least I’m man enough to 1) admit it and 2) try to make amends for it as best I can today. . Let’s start with the painful reality...being Black (male or female) in IT is hard as f*ck. It’s not because technology is difficult to learn or keep up with and it’s not simply because Blacks don’t have access to the resources needed to learn and compete with our non-Black counterparts (for the most part...there are some exceptions). It’s because IT is still to this day extremely white and Asian/Indian dominated and the experiences of Blacks in IT are simply different than for other groups. As a result, many of us have to struggle for years with little to no support or mentorship to literally survive up the ranks and, if we’re really lucky, get into positions of leadership and influence where we can make real difference in the organizations we work for and the families we support. . Now here’s the f*ck-up that was first committed by Black men...oftentimes we were so damn busy trying to survive and support our families that we stopped blazing a path for those behind us to follow. In fact, many of us considered it a strange “right of passage” for the next generation to have to struggle like we did without little to no support along the way. Of course, this sounds like BS now but it happened...a lot. Some of my Kings will be pissed by my words but that’s just insecurity and unwillingness to take accountability surfacing up; the fact remains that Black representation in IT is extremely low compared to other groups and many of us had the first chances in our families and communities to make a difference...and we simply didn’t follow through.

This was one of the biggest events we did.....and I totally bombed it. (It wasnt a total disaster but it felt like one) I forgot the salad dressing and ran out of food! Thankfully my bar tenders kept the drinks flowing and the guest drunk!!! I remember leaving the event and the voices in my head were tearing me up. I was all kinds of failures and dumb asses. And my assistant/bf yelled at me the whole way home and the next day. I was so disappointed in myself. I felt like I let everyone down. I fell so far down a hole of self doubt. And it seemed there was no one there to help me from going deeper and deeper. It was with this event that I started to doubt myself as a caterer and slowing began to put APOS down and reevaluate my lifes choices. 3 years later, I'm just now starting to regain confidence in my abilities to do the thing that makes me the happiest. I'm thankful for the reminder. I'm most grateful for the ability to rise, no matter how long it took. #pushthrough #alignmentoverhustle #blackwomanentrepreneur #socialmediaconsultant #generationalwealth #dailyhabits #learnandgrow #pivot #smallbusinesssupport #launchplan #wecandoit #growandprofit #themarathoncontinues #progressoverperfection #blackleaders #blackleadership #consistencyiskey #alignandmotivate #yougotthis #hustleandmotivate #startbeforeyoureready #jumpman #tryagain #courageous #strengthtraining

Our community has lost another legend: Earl Graves, Sr., Black Enterprise founder and publisher. He passed away quietly on Monday night after a long battle with Alzheimers, according to his son @earlbutchgraves. @blackenterprise helped to launch and nurture the careers of two generations of African American professionals and innovators. Earl Graves, Sr. was not just a chronicler of Black businesses and entrepreneurs, but a leader, and a role model for excellence in his own right. We mourn with the Graves family and send our deepest condolences 🙏🏾.
