A nice lean muscle gain after 6 weeks for this client who doesn’t want to reveal his identity. Body weight went up but body fat stayed the same. Calories were as high as 6000 at one stage so he definitely has a fast metabolism. To hit these calories with traditional β€˜clean’ foods would have been difficult, and it was. So instead I suggested that he consumed not so typical things like cakes, sweets, biscuits, fizzy drinks, fruit juice etc, to get his calories up. Obviously I checked his diet regularly to see if he consumed enough fruit, veg and good fat. Lean gains are possible, especially when you’re young and new to training. If you have a fast metabolism and struggle with appetite then I recommend non traditional sources of food and drink to get your calories up. Liquid calories in particular are a good option. Today we trained delts, hamstrings and quads with intent πŸ‘€ PB on Machine shoulder press 32.5x4 then 27.5x6 with an RPE 10 PB on DBSLDL 25x6 for 2 sets then a PB on leg press 4pps for 12 then 150 for 15. Metabolite work to finish lying ham curl 30x18 triple drop 25x4 20x6 15x12 then leg extensions 32.5x2x15 Calves missed again due to annoying ankle pain at McVicars Gym

Decent upper body session tonight. On barbell rows I pulled 65x4 and 55x9. Last week 60x8 55x10. For some reason I thought I got 50x12 last week so maybe could’ve pushed a bit harder in my downset but v pleased with 65x4. Still haven’t got 1.25 plates so it was either that or sticking at 60 but felt like attempting 65. Never thought I’d be able to pull my body weight. Rest of session went pretty decent. Unilateral seated cable row 17.5x11, 12.5x13 Unilateral OHP 15x7 12.5x9 Unilateral incline machine press 20x9 17.5x10 DB flies 12.5x2x15 Rope push down 37.5x4x13 DB hammer curl 10x13,13,13,8 at McVicars Gym

Hardest Set of the day by FAR from Today’s Push Rotation 2 - High Incline BB Press - 75kgs x 6 - best I’ve ever hit on this was 70kgs x 6! ✍🏼. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € For max delt recruitment I really think we should be assessing our grip width on the bar. A grip too narrow will destabilise the shoulder joint and encourage the use of momentum & inertia to get the weight shifted out of the end of the eccentric into the concentric phase. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € A wide grip allows greater stability of the shoulder joint - thus a greater ability to load effectively through the eccentric and create tension BEFORE initiating the press. it’s DAMN hard NOT to chuck the weight when you’re fighting for those last few but it WILL pay off in your development to actually recruit the muscle groups we are trying to get to work. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € I’m trying as hard as possible to REPLICATE reps, as you can see, bar path initially starts of very good, but as we start to fatigue you can see bar path tricking away from where we want it in an ideal scenario.... this is where sticking to your guns and running a movement consistently in rotation will PAY off... your ability to control and own the load will only improve. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € Final point to cover is seat height. You simply do NOT have to be bolt upright to recruit the delts. A slight incline WILL bring in some upper chest, but in turn, will increase your ability to load the movement (most likely) - if you can connect well with a moderate incline, id personally suggest keeping that in. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € Hopefully some of these points will help out in your next delt session - the rest of this Push session was VERY good, with 50x7, 45x11 and 40x15 on incline press. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € Now to go home and bathe in CHO. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β € #BeEpic #PushDay at Underground Gym

It's great creating memories that you can look back on. Four years ago Mitchell and I flew out to California as I booked Mitchell on a three day course with Frank Zane. What a great experience for me to meet him and see Frank teach Mitchell his posing and training. Being in Frank studio was awesome to see his three Olympia trophies. Our overall stay in Califonia was fantastic, going to Venice Beach seeing the original muscle beach and Hollywood. I also managed to go to a Hot Rod meet as well..!!
