Hold the phone…or…the chicken. I get asked "does the type of food you eat matter as long as you're in a caloric deficit or surplus depending if goal is getting ripped or filling out the frame." - My answer to this is YES! Of course it matters. I am a believer that quality foods should always fill the majority of your nutrition and then the occasional (or frequent) indulgences of massive amounts of pancakes/waffles and cereal is allowed jk. - Anyways, after contest prep, during the holidays, I decided to freestyle the food sources in my diet and although I was in a surplus and was gaining weight, I was tracking and noticed a less favorable body composition, more inflammation, poorer recovery from workouts, slept better than prep but woke groggy and bloated etc. (yes fat gain and carbs affect bodyweight, serotonin levels, water retention etc. causing some of this but lack of micronutrients can too) - Since cleaning the diet back up this new year with a majority of my typical bodybuilding foods that I make best gains with (protein shakes, chicken, eggs, lean red meat), (oatmeal, grits, rice, pasta, veggies, popcorn, some fruit, and -recently added potatoes-which I like) I notice the bad effects are gone. - Each person has a unique metabolism and food tolerances, but some things are facts. Enough or fewer calories via portion control for your goal: gains or fat loss, what foods you can (or prefer to) tolerate that contain quality protein, ample fiber, enough micronutrients for optimal muscle performance and recovery. - Anyways, since starting bodybuilding over a decade ago I've always felt mastering your diet and making it enjoyable is the key to consistency which is the key to longevity in sport and health. #cyborg4life #masteryourdiet #mondaymotivation #naturalbodybuilding #usplabs

All progress takes place outside of the comfort zone ✨. Over the last week I've been to two gyms I haven't been to before. Might not sound like a big deal but I feel so awkward standing there trying to see what there is and where to go. I actually felt pretty uncomfortable the whole time I was there today. No idea why, somedays anxiety is worse than others I guess! So I did what made me feel comfortable and did a full body session on the machines I could see near me so I wasn't wondering around like a lost puppy 😂 physically, I didn't really feel like I pushed myself that hard today, but I reckon it's because I was focussing more on the mental side and made myself push through a 45 minute session in a new environment. So to me, that was the achievement. Not all progress is physical! . at Reading, England
