Can you ever go wrong with a Sophie Kinsella book? True to the chick-lit we all love, My Not So Perfect Life is an ode to modern times. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ • Thank you so much @authorfahy for sending me a copy of your novel to review! • Alyssa Darlington is your usual high school student – relatively popular, somewhat studious, and a big enjoyer of parties. But it’s at one of these parties that she finds herself in trouble. Someone spikes her drink and, when she’s vulnerable and alone, someone takes advantage and brutally attacks her. When she wakes up, she can only remember fragments of the nigh, and is shaken by the consequences – whatever the attacker did to her has left her partially, but permanently, blind. Alyssa wants revenge, but she needs to tread carefully – who can she trust? • Being a secondary school teacher, I’ve read a LOT of YA fiction. Lots of it can be awful – clichéd plotlines, characters with no depth, etc etc – but this is definitely not one of those. • The action started almost immediately, hooking me straight in, and the characters were complex and multifaceted. I felt like I was in the story as the events unfolded and was absolutely gripped by the suspense as it built. There were so many twists and turns, each time I thought I knew who was responsible I almost immediately had to throw all my theories out! • I enjoyed the fact that there were multiple story lines happening at once, and I particularly liked how there was a balance between usual teenage worries and deep serious drama. It made the characters relatable and the storylines believable. I felt I could empathise with the characters, and was really invested in the storylines. • I won’t give away any spoilers, but I was NOT expecting the ending - what a twist! • The only concern I had was minor – Alyssa was described often as ‘the beloved’, but it seemed to be that most people at school (and her mother!) despised her, so I’d have liked a bit more clarity on that. • In terms of recommendations, I think my students would definitely enjoy this. They’d love the drama, the personal dynamics and the mystery, and I think they’d be able to relate to the characters really easily. • Thank you again to Sophie Fahy for gifting me a copy! • #bookstagram #books #reading #ukbookstagram #review #arc #bookreview #sophiefahy #throughhereyes

Excellent. The novel that inspired the film Stalker, Roadside Picnic intelligently deals with a terrifying alternative to being conquered by aliens: the idea that extraterrestrials don’t even notice us here. 4 1/2 stars. #SciFi #bookreview #SovietFiction

. Setelah tujuh abad, aku baru ngereview lagi. Oh my! Sungguh terlalu diriku. . Meskipun begitu, aku nggak berhenti pernah membaca. Ya, minimal baca status. Oopss. . Kenapa buku ini? Karena novel ini yang baru kuselesaikan. Jadi, masih fresh ceritanya di kepala. . As usual, mulai dari nol ya, eh dari blurb, ya! . =========================== . Judul : Glitter and Gunfire (Sang Pengawal Bayangan) Penulis : Cynthia Eden Penerbit : Gramedia Pustaka Utama . Blurb : . Misi Cale Lane kali ini cukup sederhana : menjaga si gadis pesta, Cassidy Sherridan, tetap aman. Walaupun awalnya tidak keberatan dengan keterbatasan informasi tentang tugasnya, rasa ingin tahu Cale mulai tergelitik ketika segerombolan pria bersenjata menyerbu pesta sosialita di Rio untuk menculik objek misinya. . . =========================== . Sudah dapat sesuatu dari blurbnya? . Apa yang kamu ingat? Kalau aku langsung keingetan James Bond. . Jumpa lagi dipostingan berikutnya. . #katasani #bacaansani #bukusani #bookreview #harlequin #bukugpu #bookstagram #terjemahan #noveldewasa #novelterjemahan

~ B O O K R E V I E W! 📖 White Oleander by Janet Fitch. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• ~ This is a beautiful, raw and powerful book about a mother / daughter duo. We follow Ingrid, the mother and her daughter, Astrid. Unfortunately, Ingrid goes to jail for murder therefore, leaving Astrid to fend for herself in foster homes. Each home teaches Astrid new lessons, puts her in new dangers and helps shape her into the women she grows up to become. This book was beyond a wild ride for me. The writing of this novel is just so captivating and had me sucked in by the first page. I just want to get this out of the way now, but I did however not like the time in Astrid's life when a grown man was sleeping with her, at the young age of only 14! I definitely can see why it was thrown into the book as it was meant for character development, but I felt uncomfortable reading it. However, everything else was enticing, intriguing and had my full attention. The characters were so brilliantly flawed, you couldn't help but be drawn to them and be interested in their back stories. Astrid especially was far from perfect and made many wrong choices, but you couldn't help but sympathies with her and just want to give her a big hug and tell her she is loved! The relationship between Ingrid and Astrid was an eye opener to see how much someone can still have so much control on your life, even when they are in prison. Astrid for me, would have to be one of the strongest characters I've read. She would constantly surprise me by how she survived in some circumstances and how she kept pushing on. I know that her as a character and this book, will always stay with me. I feel like I have so many thoughts about this book but I just can't seem to find the right words. So I'll just end with that I think everyone should read this once in their life and experience the beautiful writing and these amazing flawed characters for themselves! •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• #bookishpost #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #read #reading #bookaesthetic #bookaholic #bibliophile #reader #book #bookworm #ilovereading #bookaddict #booklover

*Book Review #3* . "Om Namah Shivāya The universe bows to Lord Shiva I bow to Lord Shiva" 🙇🏻‍♂️ . . . . 🏹 This one is technically the first ever non-academic book I had read. Mr. @authoramish has undoubtedly done a phenomenal job. Never before, generally, heard of characters have been brought to life elegantly inside the book. It's a combination of multiple genres. Reading this doesn't feel like reading mythology with all the miracles & superstitions, it feels like ancient science. 🏹 Even the 'Vishnu Avatar theory' has also been moulded (or maybe it was originally like that) in a way that seems very logical. You'll find yourself giggling to some cute conversations at one point, crying at other & biting nails to some cruelest happenings. 🏹 Though it's hard to find someone who doesn't know the story of epic of Ramayana, but books of this series has very much more to tell that's necessary to keep from spoiled, at least for them who haven't read. I'm really liking the idea of walking readers through main characters' lives, by dedicated books of their origin, before their fates intercept. . (Continued in comments 👇🏻) . . . . Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐/5 Genre: #mythologicalfiction Reading difficulty: ⭐⭐✨/5 . . . . #Qotd: Do you believe epics like Ramayana & Mahabharata had happened? Are you an all science or all religious person, or you take both into account in your ideology of life? . . . . As of now, I've completed book 2 from the series i.e. 'Sita' & will be starting book 3 'Raavan' today which released 2 months ago FYI. . . . . #scionofikshvaku #amishtripathi #fiction #mythology #beads #bookreview #bookflatlay #flatlay #reading #bookrecommendation #bookworm #booknerd #bookalicious #bibliophile #readabook #readaholic #bookaholic #booklove #bookart #bookcollection #goodreads #epicreads #bookreviewer #booksbooksbooks #booksandbooks #whatiamreading

Finishing Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie's Americanah means that I have now read everything she has written yet, and as much as I have enjoyed reading every word she's written (for those of you who don't know already, I 💙 her), I am terribly sad that I no longer can hold on to the anticipation of having just one more book by her that I was yet to read. Americanah, for almost 4 years, was that book for me, the one hovering over my reading horizon, which I intentionally kept delaying. * I could say that this is my favourite work by Adichie, but then, I read her first two novels almost 5 years ago, and I'm sure it is just that the temporal proximity of this book that has gripped me so and that I love all her books equally (😅). That said, I don't know how well I will be able to review this one, but, nonetheless, here are some of my haphazard thoughts: The titular Americanah is Ifemelu, a Nigerian woman who, after years of living in America, decides to move back to Nigeria and start her life afresh. The book is also about her relationship with Obinze, her first love, and the ways their individual trajectories on the graph of life have brought them closer and taken them apart time and again. * Ifemelu's move to America is driven by multiple strikes at her university (against an oppressive head of state) that threatens to hinder her education. Raised in a middle-class household, under the shadow of an overtly religious mother, it is imperative for Ifemelu to complete her education in order to escape a life of "choicelessness". * In America, Ifemelu struggles to settle herself into a life of comfort, as she is not qualified to work on her visa and, after a point, can barely make ends meet. The American culture, so strakly different from her native Nigerian, overwhelms her. Depression raises its ugly head at times as Ifemelu fights to keep herself afloat in a sea of foreignness. The question to ask is simple: Does one let go of one's roots and embrace a foreign culture such that life becomes at least a tad easier? In the face of this choice, Ifemelu opts for the more difficult way of keeping her Afro and her accent throughout her days in America. * (Contd. in comments)

#bookreview #nospoilers Chasing Embers by James Bennett I loved this book from the start as it had elements of the Rivers of London series. It follows Ben Garston an supernatural being who just happens to be a dragon. I don't want to give too much away but it is quite a fast paced book with dragon's, guilds, witches, fairies and century long grudges which get in the way of Ben saving his damsel in distress. Sounds cliche but it works and it is so well written. I also really love how this book spans the globe and cultures. 4.5⭐ For more reviews see my Goodreads link in my bio. #bookreviewer #bookstagrammer #bookrecommendation #busybookmama #irishbookstas #bookstagram #bookcommunity #igreads #instabooks #book #chasingembers #jamesbennett #willoughbybookclub #ilovereading #bookdragon #bookobsessed #goodreads #supernatural #dragons #witches #supernaturalbook #humansofbookstagram

📚 Book review 📚 Kleine Science Fiction omnibus 2 ~ Arthur C. Clarke, Roger Zelazny, Catherine L. Moore e.a. . A surprisingly solid collection of sci-fi short stories and the perfect way to get me through two hectic work weeks while still trying to attain a reading goal. On track with #storyseptember so far! And a perfect #readwhatyouown book as it sat on my shelf for years . As it is a collection dating from 1976 it has its flaws, but also manages to capture a sort of dispirited mood that was in the air. There's not a lot of room for optimism, though one of my favourites from this collection, R.R. Meliss' The Stutterer, ends with mankind finally listening (huh?). Overall good quality stories in which man is mostly battling himself . A collection like this would (hopefully) never be published nowadays. Out of 14 authors, 2 are female and not one is an AOC (although I'm not entirely sure about Alfred Coppel, but the online biography I could find wasn't clear on this). All protagonists save one were male (and I assume white) and the one female lead was a housewife and mother. I'd like to think we've moved ahead since this collection was published. That the genre is represented in all its diversity nowadays, though I read too little contemporary sci-fi short story collections to be sure. Next up is So Long Been Dreaming,  a collection of postcolonial sci-fi shorts! . A last sidenote about the sweet, somewhat odd and outdated Dutch translations of words like razorsharp ( scheermesscherp), old-fashioned (oudmodisch) and 3D (drie-di). These made me chuckle . Are you a fan of classic sci-fi short stories? . #whatadutchgirlreads #booklover #bookstagram #shortstories #sciencefiction #scifi #scificlassic #septemberreads #bookaddict #bibliophile #igreads #igbooks #readersofinsta #lovetoread #alwaysreading #bookreview #lezenisleuk #lekkerlezen #boeken #bookaholic #korteverhalen

Hola book lovers, #bookreview . This book deals with a double murder case and how it got highlighted. This story is about Anuj tikku and his struggles with his failed marriage, drug addiction, murder, professional life. How the death of his mother affects him and his dad. How his bollywood life turns out to be a hell of the life. . The book in between seems to be a bit dragged and the editing has to be done. Because of the editing I was losing my interest here and there. . When I started this insta page, I wanted to write about books that help me relax and take a break from harsh realities. Which book be better suited than one of my most favorite novels of all the time. Book Name : Pride and Prejudice Author : Jane Austen Set against the backdrop of Britain regency era, pride and prejudice tells the story of Miss Elizabeth and her family. Elizabeth, though a sensible women, us prejudiced against men and their ambition of getting married to women of worth. In such note, she develops a contempt against our other protagonist, Mr Darcy who is a proud British man. Elizabeth thinks, Darcy scorns upon her family due to their unfortunate situations and that he broke the marriage proposal between her sister Jane and his friend Mr Bingley. Later on when they both break free of their inhibitions, a very beautiful love story blossoms thus making Jane Austen best at what she does. My favorite part of the book is the letter that Mr Darcy writes to Elizabeth, explaing his action and proposing his interests to court her. Have a great read, people and let me know what you feel. #bookstagram #janeausten #britishliterature #bookreview

Which animal that lives in the water do you find most fascinating❓ • • • • #donderkopje #tad #benjidavies #kikker #frog #prentenboek #picturebook #illustratedbook #voorlezen #readingwithkids #momlife #beautifulbookcovers #coverlover #bookreview #bookphoto #boekenwormpod #illustration #illustraties #ikleesnls #lezenisleuk #boekenwurm #lezen #boeken #boekstagram #boekentip #booklove #lifeisreading #booknerdigan #booknerdmommy @lsamsterdam @vibkids @benjidavies

Book review! "If the little grey cells are not exercised, they grow the rust." ~ Agatha Christie, The A.B.C. Murders. After not having been overly excited by the last few Agatha Christie novels I've read, I was happily surprised by how captivated I was by The ABC Murders. I couldn't put the book down until I knew who the murderer was and read it in one sitting (well, admittedly it was a rather short one ) ! This time Poirot has to catch a serial killer that's on the loose, and the mad man seems to have a personal vendetta against the little Belgian detective with the big mustaches. Hastings is also back and while I'm not his biggest fan, it's always fun to read the often hilarious back and forth between the two of them. I felt quite smug when I picked up on a clue way ahead of Poirot but was soon put in my place when the big reveal came along and I had been totally wrong with any of my other conclusions 🤣 . 《🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟》 . New #bookreview up today on blog (blog link in bio) Mr Godley’s Phantom is the posthumously published novel from award winning writer Mal Peet. With it’s very eye-catching cover, this edition was recently published on 1st August with David Fickling Books. Mal Peet lived to complete it, but not to see it published as he sadly passed away in 2015. It is the final novel from this most well-respected of writers. A book that has garnered enormous praise across the literary world, the Literary Review called it ‘a thrilling study of pain, grief and evil, with the mechanics of a murder mystery powering it’s plot.‘ The Guardian described it as ‘a profound, elegant novel that achieves greatness by creating its own, self-regulating world in which ordinary logic does not apply – a dreamworld, if you like, but no less real for that.‘ Mal Peet’s writing has been described as cinematic but I truly feel that an on-stage production would be where Mr Godley’s Phantom would come into it’s own. With a touch of Agatha Christie in both it’s setting and telling, this novel, though short, packs quite a literary punch. There is an underlying philosophical theme running through the story about our lives and how we choose to live them. Mal Peet tackles many themes, including that of post traumatic stress and mental health, all set against the isolation of the Devon moors. Combining these elements with a mystery, a ghost story and a possible crime, Mr Godley’s Phantom is a multi-layered tale with very engaging characters. A perceptive and intelligent tale, a reflective piece of work. #mrgodleysphantom #malpeet #bookstagram #bookcommunity #newfiction #swirlandthread #bookstoread #ilovereading #tuesdayreads #coverlove #books

"What worries you, masters you" - "Fighting the odds" by Kristen Granata . 💬Who is aware of the feeling you get after reading your favourite book boyfriend story and his HEA? I call it a #booksatisfaction and it's a feeling I usually sense after finishing the last book in the series or when the most broken character finally finds happiness 💞💞💞 . What can I say? I was waiting for this book so bad!!! Because I needed TJ's story and happy closure, he like no one else deserves prosperity, love, understanding, acceptance and loyalty. He is a survivor, warrior and pure inspiration to every reader. And damn he is also so hooooot!!!! . Carla had planned it all - finish school, get married, raise a family and enjoy a happy ever after with her high school sweetheart. When things for her turn to the opposite direction, she leaves her hometown in trying to forget her pain and put the past behind. Only she didn't plan to meet TJ who is currently licking his unrequited love wounds. . This is a final book in Collision series and Kristen gave us an amazing and most satisfying closure. Every book in this series is so much more than just a love story. Each of them was filled with inspirational, raw and emotional twists, amazing characters, realistic and relatable events and outcomes. I can't wait to see what else this talented indie author has in the bag for her readers. .

📖📖📖 . •Doodle For Your Journal• . . Jadinya semangat lagi buat rapihin jadwal pekanan sampe bulanan dengan bantuan template dan stiker lucu dari buku 'Doodle For Your Journal' Di slide pertama, kalian bisa lihat hasil bujo-ku sebelah kanan atas. Di sebelah kirinya tampak buku 'Doodle For Your Journal' yang kovernya aja udah imut banget, beserta printilannya. . Di slide kedua, ada goodiebag dari @penerbitinari. Review of #TheSpeakingStone by @ratnadipacharya is up on my blog. Link in bio. https://blog.medhaapps.com/2019/09/book-review%e2%80%8a-%e2%80%8athe-speaking-stone-by-ratnadip-acharya/ In a remote part of India, there is a mountain filled with stones that have been molded into beautiful and mystic creations. A young man in Mumbai, Saikat accidentally gets his hand on a stone from an antics seller, which intrigues him as the stone has been chopped into half leaving Saikat with one vertical half. His attempt to get more details about the stone and its significance from its original owner does not yield results. Saikat gets obsessed to know about the stone and hence sets about inadvertently on an adventure. Shuvashini mysteriously stumbles upon a book, the Rajmala in a library, that chronicles the times and lives of the Manikya dynasty which ruled the North-Eastern part of India. As she was looking for an idea for her doctorate thesis, Shuvashini also sets out to know further about the kingdom she read about. In between the author takes the readers back to the Princely State of Tripura in the year 1900 when it was being ruled by King Radha Kishore Manikya. The King is in the process of constructing a very ambitious and marvelous palace and as with every kingdom there are unhappy souls hatching their own conspiracy plans. The Speaking Stone is a historical fiction with equal doses of suspense and thrill as the past of a kingdom and a mysterious antic piece influences the current day life of the protagonists. The basic premise of the story is brilliant, and the authors imagination to weave a story around these characters is appreciable. However the major drawback is the slow pace as the story takes a long time to take off and to get into action. The author could have narrated the same story with a different flow to make it more interesting and appealing. While the story will appeal majorly to historical fiction and thriller fans, a normal reader would require patience to get through some of the sequences. A more tighter narration and a faster pace could have done wonders for the otherwise good storyline. (cont'd in comments) #KiranmayiReviews

The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood . . . I first read this 10 years ago. It was lent to me by my dear friend @jentriestowrite and it blew my mind. As the sequel was released this week I felt the need to talk about this ground breaking, wonderful novel. This is not a novel you can say you Love or Adore it’s too profound for that, it is a book that tackles themes and ideas that unfortunately resonate too closely with the world today. It tells the story from one Handmaids POV, Offred, and you are rooting for her from the moment you start reading. I know I was shocked and horrified by some of the things she is forced to endure but endure she does. It was a life changing book for me, I don’t think Jen knows this but it challenged me and made me think (and not just because she gave me her annotated A level copy!) I challenge everyone to read this book. Especially men, I believe it is a book that should be digested by the masses as it warns and comments on things, as a society we should want to avoid. If you have seen the series, you will know, it’s amazing, harrowing, terrible, brilliant, horrifying and engaging all at once. The book is slightly different but the feeling remain the same. If you have just finished season 3, and are struggling with out your June, Nick, Hanna, and Aunt Lydia fix, read the book. It is just plain brilliance. #books #reading #thehandmaidstale #margaretatwood #Offred #bookreview #blessedbethefruit #amazingbook #nolitestebastardescarborundorum

So the first thing we notice after we're back from our hibernation (off of instagram) is that a post of ours has been deleted. Which... sucks! But what doesn't suck is the fact that we get to remind you to read this amazing book we read and reviewed for you a few weeks back! ________________________________ Title of the book: Dark Side of the Moon (Vol 1+2) Name of Author: Shubham Arora Release year: 2019 Genre: Short stories/Horror/Thriller Length: Short .............................................................. Formidable, dark and sinisterly - all encapsulated in the form of an uncanny yet pleasant read. The author Shubham Arora, in his debut series, plays with a vivid imagery of the unexplained in this collection of short stories. From the first tale "The Last Skype", till the last one "Seventy Meters", I had my moments of fear, disbelief and wonder. Whilst stories like "The Ritual" kept me questioning my own conclusion of it, I found myself whispering "that's my way of endings" at the end of the tale "Seventy Meters", which was also the end of the book. The language is simple and the imagery portrayed through words is commendable. For those of you love a touch of spook whilst reading, consider it a MUST read! I'm not so sure if you would want to read it at night, however... Or would you? ;) .............................................................. Book Rating: 4.5/5. Review by: N. Black. . PS: This edition that we got to read comprises of both the first and the second volumes which is a super saver pack! If you wish to read both the volumes separately, they're available too.

The Ten Thousand Doors of January by @alix.e.harrow tells the story of January Scaller. A child when the book begins, she finds a book called The Ten Thousand Doors and that, along with discovering her first door into another place, changes her life forever. Although fantasy is not a genre I often choose to read, I did think this was a well written and inventive story. Lovely five-star review of my novel The Weighing of the Heart from Linby at Books IMO: 'I didn't just like it, I LOVED it! I can't believe that this is a first novel. Paul is compared to Auster who I also love to read, but I would say that Paul's work is a lot more accessible, but I can see why it has been compared to Auster. I have no hesitation in giving this book 5 out of 5 stars. I read it in two sittings, it would have been less if time had allowed, I really didn't want to put it down. It's rare I read a book twice, but I think this will be going on the "to be read again" shelf. I will be watching for more from this author.' https://booksimo.blogspot.com/2019/09/the-weighing-of-heart-paul-tudor-owen.html #review #bookreview #booksandcoffee #bookstagram #booklover #bookworld #bookaholic #bookaddict #weighingoftheheart #egyptology #ancientegypt #newyorkcity #uppereastside #nyc #ilovenyc #scarab #bigapple #anubis #booklover #bookporn #book #books #authorsofinstagram #writersofinstagram #amreading

. . ENG: I can’t believe this is the last book of Harry Hole series! I bought it and started to read almost immediatly, because - hey, it’s Nesbo and Harry Hole! But overall I find it quite disappointing - too long (even boring in some chapters), too gloomy, I couldn’t believe all the twists and turns - it felt like something’s missing. . . . #jonesbo #knife #harryhole #harryholeseries #jūnesbē #nazis #zvaigzneabc #book #thriller #booklover #zanelasa #zanereads #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookstagramlv #grāmata #patīklasīt #lovebooks #lovereading

Man, I enjoyed Bluebird Bluebird. I have to admit, mentioning the 1998 murder of James Byrd Jr. and IMO, the 2015 murder of Sandra Bland pissed me off. I mean, Texas has been in the news lately about racist killings, and people have been on edge. The AR15 and AK47, both battlefield weapons, are even in Beto O’Rourke's crosshairs for confiscation. It's no wonder citizens are packing in Texas. When I visited the Alamo with my family, I was taken aback by how beautiful Texas was. We drove from Huston and even talked about moving there. One thing's for sure; you can't live your life in fear. Bon dia, lectores i lectors!! . #book #books #illustration #illustratedbooks #LIJ #childrensbooks #childlit #booklover #bookworm #llegeixoicomparteixo #recomanats #infantil #silentbooks #love #bologna #bookstgram #bookreview

* If you'd just let me finish Written by Jeremy Clarkson * * In November 2016 we woke up to the news that the forthright presenter of a popular television programme had become the most powerful man on the planet. His name, sadly, was not Jeremy Clarkson, but we might not have been any more surprised if it had been. Because the world seems to have taken a decidedly odd turn since Jeremy last reflected on the state of things between the covers of a book. But who better than JC to help us navigate our way through the mess? And while he's being trying to make sense of it all he's discovered one or two things along the way, including - The disabling effects of being vegan - How Blackpool might be improved by drilling a hole through it - The problem with meditation - A perfect location for rebuilding Palmyra - Why Tom Cruise can worship lizards if he wants to It's all been a bit unsettling. But don't worry. If You'd Just Let Me Finish is Clarkson at his best. He may be as bemused, exasperated, amused and surprised as the rest of us, but in a world gone crazy, thank God someone has still got his head screwed on ... (Backcover) * * I love Clarkson's wit...I haven't watched top gear since the changeover as it will never be the same and for those of you who also thought him to be funny and entertaining, you will definitely enjoy his books also. The way he describes things and compares them is fantastically blunt and I couldn't help but enjoy it. 5* * * #ifyoudjustletmefinish #clarkson #jeremyclarkson #book #bookreview #bookstagram #bookish #booknerd #booknerdigan #booklover #reading #bookshelf #bookobsessed #bookaddict #bookworm #booklove #nonfiction #funny #entertaining #red

#teasertuesday There's been a lot of attention paid to Chaining Daisy the past few weeks - it was launched last Wednesday so it's only right she got the lions share of the limelight. But to stop it making her a completely spoilt diva, I thought I'd turn the spotlight onto one of my other books, one that's a complete contrast to Daisy, The Forest ~ a tale of old magic ~ which was published October 2018 - and share the back cover, which proudly bears an endorsement from the fabulous @jamesfahyauthor The Forest is a dark and twisted tale of a curse fermenting over the centuries and a love remembered through the generations. Set in the lost village of Wykenwode in a forgotten corner of England, the Forest looms over the village, controlling the lives of the villagers, but also protecting them from the black entity lurking at its heart. SWIPE to read one of the latest of its many rave 5⭐ reviews, and if you dare to enter its shady glades and try to learn its secrets, it's available on Amazon as an eBook, a stunning paperback and for the first time is free to read on Kindle Unlimited. #theforestjuliablake #bookstagram #britishwriter #juliablakeauthor #booknerds #bookreview #bookblurb #darkfantasy #fairytale #oldmagic #fantasybooks #britishmagic #thegreenman #readersofinstagram #readersofbookstagram #readersofdarkfantasy #readersoffantasy #readersofbigbooks

Stay With Me Author Ayobami Adebayo Publisher @vikingbooks . The Review 🥺 . Be forewarned - Stay With Me is one of the saddest books I have read in a long time. It is not at all what you might expect, and there are many surprising plot turns. At times the main character Yejide's pain was so excruciating, I was not sure if I could continue. Like Yejide, though, I did and it was worth it. One minor criticism is that the author tells her story from alternating points of view but does not indicate at the beginning of a chapter that the narrator has changed. It creates unnecessary confusion for a few paragraphs each time there is a shifting point of view. The story is good enough without this confusing style. This is an emotional book about marriage, motherhood, family ties and the power of tradition in our lives. I highly recommend it.

My kids have always loved Anh Do's books and I was thrilled when Wolf Girl was released, with a strong female main character. Aimed at middle school readers, it follows Gwen as her life is turned upside down in a matter of hours. She befriends a group of dogs and becomes their leader. To survive this new world, Gwen draws on lessons her parents taught her. The pace is fast, keeping the reader engaged and adding drama to the story. Swipe across to read the first page. The book ends with a cliffhanger, I can't wait to read it. It was a great book and I highly recommend for young readers.

‪Until November 10 the Hamburger Bahnhof in Berlin shows "Local Histories", an exhibition based on the collection of Friedrich Christian Flick housed in the aforementioned location. Curator Matilda Felix picked key works from the collection and set out to trace the relationships and conditions under which these works came into existence: what themes/topics are echoed in them? What were shared sources of inspiration? And which personal networks and friendships connected the artists? Donald Judd, who in 1964 penned the phrase "“The history of art and art’s condition at any time are pretty messy”, is juxtaposed with artists he got to know (and appreciate) during his many NY gallery visits. This kind of local history is also reflected in the work of Konrad Lueg/Fischer, the infamous artist turned gallerist: his "friends" Gerhard Richter and Sigmar Polke almost foreced him to give up painting for a career in art trade. Fittingly his works are juxtaposed with those of Richter, Polke and Manfred Kuttner, another of his friends turned client. ‬ ‪The accompanying catalogue, published recently @kerberverlag, besides large spreads documenting the spatial situation of these juxtapositions also contains a variety of essays that deal with the histories and relationships between artist in the F.C. Flick collection: Brigitte Kölle for example examines Konrad Fischer's local and international exhibitions (and therefore connections), while Diedrich Diederichsen follows Isa Genzken's networks in New York and Berlin. I'm a sucker for all kinds of network analyses in the arts and the art trade and so the catalogue with its often amusing entries was a very enjoyable read. But of course talk is cheap so if you're in Berlin go and visit the exhibition!‬ ————————————————- #hamburgerbahnhof #localhistories #kerberverlag #exhibitioncatalogue #artexhibition #flickcollection #contemporaryart #modernart #artbook #arthistory #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksofinstagram #bookish #bookaholic #booklover #bibliophile #instabook #bookblogger #newbook #bookreview

One life lived has Louis David Alder born a male and the other life lived has Louise Dawn Alder born a female. They both have the same best friends, the same parents, the same aspirations of becoming a writer and the same drive to move out of their hometown in Maine as soon as possible. These two lives are lived by a person but the difference lies in their gender... and that's enough to change everything. Lous (Louis and Louise) are forced to return home and reflect on the past and everything that hurt them; evaluate the present for everything that's holding them back and finally work on acceptance, forgiveness and building a stable future. My top three thoughts on 'Louis & Louise': 1. The minute I read the blurb for this one I KNEW I had to read it. I've often wondered growing up how differently my own life would have been if I was born male. I've always argued for and fought for equality as far back as I can remember so I eagerly read and finished this book within a day. 2. Cohen looks at differences in how society and families treat an individual based on gender, as well as how it affects relationships and paths taken. The differences aren't just shown on a physical level but an emotional one as well via expectations, responsibilities and acceptance. They also aren't just limited to the protagonists but they extend to the supporting characters in their lives. The chapters mostly follow the lives of Louis and Louise in alternating narratives. Some chapters are for both Louis and Louise (titled just Lous) and are non-gender specific. This to me, really showed Cohen's writing mastery as she was able to create separate voices, separate stories but was also able to find situations that could also unite the genders at a collective and human level. 3. I'm not going to reveal spoilers, but I wish Cohen hadn't gone down a predictable path for Louise. I also found Louis's life underwhelming which could mostly have to do with how much I could relate to and connect with Louise, especially on gender discrimination and inequality. Read this for it's thought provoking and poignant narrative. Rating:⭐⭐⭐⭐(Really liked it) #louisandlouise #bookedin3

Title: The Mind Game Author: Devika Das Genre: Self-Help . . I love when I get to read a good self-help book especially written by Indian authors which utterly makes me happy and proud. This is a well drafted book which helps us to understand at the very basic level our emotions and our reactions to them, and how we can work to build our personality by better understanding these sensitive changes in ourselves. "Happiness, stress, ecstasy or depression, it’s all a mind game. As long as our mind is under our control, everything else is." Its best part lies in its simplicity. The book is written in a very simple and comprehensive manner which make the complete process of reading it quite lucid. Even using such famous examples of Steve Jobs and Mark Zuckerberg, readers are made to understand the value of simple living and high thinking. A well written self-help book. . . . Title: Dear People, with Love and Care, Your Doctors Author: Debraj Shome, Aparna Govil Bhasker Genre: Non-Fiction . . . A special mention goes to the kdrama "Doctors" starring "Kim Rae Won" and "Park Shin Hye" which I finished watching the past week. And why do I have to mention this drama over here? It's because all the credit of enjoying this book and understanding the heart of it goes to this drama for me. Watching that drama and then reading this book made a big difference for me. Ofcourse the storyline is different and what not. But what remained same was my appreciation for all the struggles that doctors have to go through in their lives in order to learn how to save someone's else. Thus, making us realize a general fact that we often forget at the time of crisis, that they too are merely humans, with family and their own problems, with special capabilities ofcourse but still humans. . . . This book shares thirty four heart touching stories written by different doctors and their experiences with their patients. This book definitely has the potential of improving your perspective about doctors and having a better insight about their lives, decisions and results. . . . Title: The Things We Do For Love Author: Raunak Agarwal Genre: Romance . . With some much needed efforts in writing and creative imagination the book could have been much better than it is. It was just too simple and bland at places that makes you uninterested to read more. Narration is something very crucial to pay attention to while formatting and working in your storyline. It was interesting that majority of the narration is in texting form, but only if compilation of sequence of plots could be synchronized, it could have made for a better read. . . . While reading it, it just felt like the author has written the book just for himself, with language so flimsy, similar to what we use while writing a personal diary or texting someone on irregular days. I really think the author should have shown much seriousness before getting his work published. . . . Moreover the book is about a confusing love triangle, where no one clearly knows even the 'L' of the word love. It's good that the book is still going under another editing process, because this one clearly felt like a failed attempt at writing, especially romance. . . . Title: The Last Avatar (Age of Kalki #1) Author: Vishwas Mudagal Genre: Mythology, Sci-Fic . . Though it feels like all the Indian Mythological books are being written on the same topics now a days, what is satisfactory is the fact that atleast they are written well. The Last Avatar, the first book in the Age of Kalki trilogy is an action packed thriller kind of book, which is full of modern world technology, terrorism, politics, romance and much more which makes it a multi genre concept collectively. Book is written in a very easy language with equally simple narration, which some may find appreciable while other may find it amateur. For me it was actually appreciable because first it's mythology and when you combine it with heavy diction it really gets hard to read it in a go. So I prefer light vocabulary when it comes to mythology or thriller as it makes my reading progression fluent. And not to forget to add, the cover of the book is absolutely gorgeous and I am glad I could get a good click. . . Coming to the story part, the protagonists are 'Neel' known as 'Kalki' a shadow warrior, a savior of modern India, and 'Nushen' known as the goddess of China, born as an experiment, a hardcore war-machine and a genetically superior human. In near future, where advancement was spread in all field, a terrorist group, Invisible Hand, wanted to enslave the whole world under their knees. They had expanded their roots in almost all countries. They possessed some deadly knowledge stolen from an ancient cult and it's scripture. The book started with a semi-chaotic situation of global politics. China was being ruled by a maniac & puppet of Invisible hand, name Jian, who followed the principal of Genghis Khan. Possible threats to his plan were Kalki & Nushen, who ran away from his clutches the moment he came to the ruling position in China. Read the book to know more. . .
