A sun dog (or sundog) or mock sun, formally called a parhelion (plural parhelia) in meteorology, is an atmospheric optical phenomenon that consists of a bright spot to one or both sides of the Sun. Two sun dogs often flank the Sun within a 22° halo. The sun dog is a member of the family of halos, caused by the refraction of sunlight by ice crystals in the atmosphere. Sun dogs typically appear as a pair of subtly colored patches of light, around 22° to the left and right of the Sun, and at the same altitude above the horizon as the Sun. I was amongst the hundreds of participants in the Walk for Mental Health at Albert Park Lake on Sunday morning. It was so encouraging to see so many people coming together, building connections, sharing conversations, and moving towards a healthier future for both body and mind. The third of our series of local Wellbeing Walks will be running on Wednesday morning from 9.30am amongst the beautiful parkland and shady trees of Elsternwick Park (meet at the shelter near the corner of Head Street and New Street). It looks like the sunshine will be making a guest appearance this week!!! Take a deep breath, engage in mindful movement and connect in nature. Offered free of charge, each week we meet for approximately 45mins-1 hour. Our focus is not on the destination or the distance and pace we travel. Instead we will focus on immersing ourselves in the experience. My son just asked me if I was crying during my Run. . I had already taken this picture. This is unfiltered, raw, REAL fucking life. . The answer is YES. I was crying and I screamed a little during my Run. I’ve explained to my kids screaming and crying are healthy 😂 so don’t worry about them thinking I’m in trouble 😆 . But anyways ... Looking at this picture makes me want to cry. My Heart Center is literally on fire. It hurt. This Run hurt. Not physically. I can handle hard runs and physical pain. This one hurt my heart. My emotional center. . This is my first run back in a long time and my first on my road back to Ironman in 2020. I’ve had a complex relationship with running in the past years where it was so lighthearted and whimsical the years before that. . Let’s just say a LOT was triggered today. Fear Control Past Trauma Rage Sadness And it came out of nowhere. . I felt like I wanted to RUN AWAY but I was already running. So I wanted to close my eyes and disassociate but that’s never a good idea on a treadmill 🙃 . Why share this? Why share this intimacy? Why share such deep pain and struggles? . Because I’m no different than you. You know that. We ALL have struggles. Healing isn’t linear. Today I realized I have more to work through. Maybe unresolved flight response? I don’t know. But I’ll sit with the shakiness and pain until I move through it. Because that’s what we do. We find our way through. We don’t run away. In fact, we run toward. . Because the only way out is through. So onward. But with consciousness and intentionality. . What do you guys say? Do you want to journey THROUGH with me? . I think it’s time to take back Running and Run right to that Ironman Finish Line again but this time with more Power and Feminine Ferocity than ever. . I may not post all pretty pictures but I’ll share this raw journey if you want to travel with me. I talk about the physical and emotional journey. They are inseparable. . And we can all reach our metaphorical Ironman Finish Lines together. Together we are stronger and in our vulnerabilities we can heal. One of the greatest lessons Ironman has taught me is that every Finish Line is simply a New Start Line. 🥰🔥

The ancient practice of Handfasting gave us the phrases “Tying the knot” and “the bonds of Matrimony.” Scotland, Ireland and other Celtic lands formerly recognized Handfasting as a marriage; just as binding as one performed in a church. You may have heard Handfasting called “Celtic marriage” Or “Hand-wrapping.” . During the middle ages, to be seen in public holding hands was a sign that the couple was exclusive to one another. Rings were usually only for the rich; a cord of string worked for everyone else. Little bit of history today. . As souls, we set up these same types of soul contracts with each other before a lifetime. It’s so we can keep growing and moving forward. Relearning the Squat: ⁣ ⁣ In the past, I have:⁣ back squatted 315lbs for reps⁣ front squatted 300lbs⁣ clean and jerked 235lbs⁣ snatched 200lbs⁣ ⁣ You might think I know a thing or two about squatting 😏⁣ BUT, I am now just realizing what a REAL squat is and feels like 🤥⁣ ⁣ Your ribcage needs to stay stacked on top of your pelvis. ⁣ Your knees will track forward, that’s perfectly ok. (It is not a sin to have your knees go forward in a squat) ⁣ ⁣ Why is this important? ⁣ ⁣ **keeping the ribcage on top of your pelvis allows your thoracic diaphragm to be on top of your pelvic diaphragm, allowing pressure and air to move evenly throughout your viscera**⁣ ⁣ What does that mean?⁣ ⁣ This means that keeping your body aligned allows the forces you produce from squatting to move evenly from front to back, and side to side. ⁣ This is desirable. This is “bracing your core”. ⁣ ⁣ This also means less power-leakages in your movements!⁣ ⁣ What does a power leakage look like? ⁣ hip shift at the bottom of a squat, uneven barbell on your shoulders when you unrack, twisting as you squat up or down, shooting hips BACK when squatting down, and keeping knees out.⁣ ⁣ Interested in why I am using a trap bar deadlift with heels elevated to learn how to squat again? Do you have the feeling that you are chronically inflamed, but your blood tests show no markers of autoimmunity or inflammation? You are fatigued, you cannot think straight, you are vibrating from within, you seem to react to just about anything, often in an unpredictable way? Last night Bobby looked into my eyes and said “Soften and Surrender”. It’s 24 hours later and I can’t get those words out of my head. I am beyond grateful that I have a partner who is in my life to reflect and mirror where I need to grow while also being my biggest cheerleader. I have been exploring going deeper into my buried grief so I can stop projecting anger and disappointment on my partner and to also stop attracting people who trigger this abandonment wound. Recently, I have had some beautiful women who are healers come into my life and I can feel myself being held by them in a safe way so I can gently start tapping into this wound, give it the proper attention and then release it with gratitude. I am ready to explore the depths of that buried well of hurt, disappointment and abandonment from my parents at such an early age so I can live with an open and loving heart. Transformational Breathwork has helped me to peel back layers of conditioning and shame and will always be the most powerful healing modality for me. I am also opening myself to the energies that have recently come in to support, love and help me open up to more healing and growth. The Universe is aligning people, places and things in my favor so I can continue to grow, heal and hold space for others do the same. I want to thank Bobby for being my rock, best friend and showing me what unconditional love feels like. I want to thank all the people that are no longer in my life because all of it has been purposeful and divine. GET COMFORTABLE, BEING UNCOMFORTABLE in a seated meditation. Pushing through challenges is what makes you grow. ⁣ ⁣ Personally, having a decade of dedicated yoga practice behind me has done wonders to calm my mind, reduce stress and strengthen my body in ways that no other sport has been able to do. Lately, I’ve been exploring seated meditations to help my moving yoga practice grow. Being seated for longer periods of time can be difficult to start. A good tip is to be totally comfortable in how you sit. And, then when waves of thoughts come about being uncomfortable, one should try to focus on getting beyond it by tuning into the breath and perhaps slowly scanning the body, from head to toe. You will find breath work and focusing on areas of the body are great distractions allowing you to remain still and be present — it’s very similar to what is done during Savasana. ⁣ ⁣ For all seated, crossed legged positions. Grab a pillow, bolster or block. The hip sockets must be higher than the knee joint, even if only a fraction of an inch. Otherwise the psoas, along with the iliacus, which inserts with a common tendon on the femur, works too hard to keep the lumbar spine from collapsing as you sit up. That means you need to prop the base of the torso so the weight of the femurs falls away from the pelvis. Keep the joints open, the inner thighs and lower belly receptive, and your posture effortlessly sits upright and more alert. Then the nervous system can find the state of deep relaxation and simultaneous alertness that characterizes inner stability in body, breath, and mind. Meditate, even if its only five minutes a day. The power of now is amazing. Here is some interesting/cool info on why we stress the importance of #breathwork in our #yoga classes! . . “We tend to huff at a fairly quick clip most of the time—anywhere from 14 to 20 breaths per minute is the standard, which is about three times faster than the 5 or 6 breaths per minute proven to help you feel your best, says Patricia Gerbarg, MD, assistant clinical professor of psychiatry at New York Medical College” . . “There is a very direct relationship between breath rate, #mood state, and autonomic nervous system state,” says Sat Bir Singh Khalsa, PhD, assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School who studies yoga and meditation. The autonomic nervous system governs the body’s sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-restore) responses, dialing functions like heart rate, respiration, and digestion up or down as necessary in response to potential threats. TOOL is one of those rare examples of an artist whose work grants us a glimpse of something beyond ourselves. Seeing them live last night was a numinous feast of sight and sound. For me, Breathwork was actually the key to truly witness the ineffable visions and intuitions that are evoked by TOOL’s music, words and imagery. I'm here to keep it REAL with you. I had a few less than perfect days last week, here's how I handle those days. Do you ever say to someone “idk why I’m feeling sad/anxious/shitty” and then you two discuss for 25 minutes why you might be feeling the way that you feel, only to leave that conversation more confused and stressed out? I get it, I've been there a time or 1000 It’s so easy to get lost in replaying the past or worrying about the future. You could come up with a million reasons as to why you feel the way that you do and still not find the true reason. The moment we feel pain we want to blame it on an external issue so we have something tangible to fix in order to feel better, except that never happens because we cannot control our environment. All that you can control is your present moment, your emotional reaction to external circumstances, and reprogramming your subconscious beliefs to attract what it is you do desire. What if the reason wasn’t outside of you? What if you took responsibility for the less than perfect scenarios in your life, and instead of trying to blame, shame, judge, or critique others, you compassionately looked within and took them as lessons and signs as to where you get to heal, grow, and expand? 10 times out of 10 (yes 10/10!) when I feel shitty, there are 5 extremely effective steps I take to not let my feelings, mood, or mind spiral me into self destructive habits: 1. Feel the sensation 2. Become present: breathe, allow yourself to take a break, move your body, connect/love, have fun 3. Ask, what is this teaching me? Where do I need to grow my self-worth on a subconscious level? 4. Reprogram your subconscious beliefs 5. Allow yourself to have an off day or 3. Repeat steps 1-4. This will 100% pass.
