It’s when you draw your letters in monoline (one line) and then go back over your letters to add in the thickness to your downstrokes. So essentially you are drawing your letters and then going back over them, even more than once if needed, to build upon each letter in order to get it to where you want. You're drawing in your thick lines and are able to go in a fix your strokes after the fact. . Brush calligraphy (aka: brush lettering) is when you are making your down strokes and upstrokes all in one stroke using a tool like a brush pen, brush marker or even a paint brush, etc. It's the art of "writing" your letters using pressure to achieve the variance in weight within your strokes. . . That being said, Faux calligraphy is a natural precursor to learning Brush calligraphy as it gives you the basic understanding of how your letters are formed and shows you where the thick and thin strokes should fall in each letter. . It's also great to learn this style even if you've already dabbled in Brush calligraphy because it's the method you want to use when drawing on objects!. . When drawing on objects, (say a pumpkin or a rock) using a brush pen would be very difficult. Instead, you need to use a bullet tip tool like a sharpie, or a paint pen so you have the freedom to go back over each of your letters and mold them to the way you want them to look. . .
