Saturday Motivation Nothing gets me tired quicker than burpees so yesterday I was just glad to get through 19.4 in time to attempt a muscle up. I’ve only been able to do one before yesterday (and that was almost a year ago) but somehow I was able to do 4 thanks to @jaynads giving me some tips. Good looking out Jay! Of couse me being hard head. With the comp being so close, im not going to get a little set back mess with my head. I had to improve on 230kg/507lbs. Slapped 235kg/518lbs on the bar for a single. Ive trained too hard and come too far for something to mess with my confidence and motivation! This pull got me lit up! Back to back 500lbs pulls tells me that all the hard work and training is keeping me at the high level prior to the set back. Ill stop here for tonight and continue to rehab. My goal is to be back to normal levels in a couple days. Last workout session of 2018 so I had to test my 1RM in Back Squat and Bench Press. I hit a PR in Deadlift at 505lb (30lb PR increase) earlier this month! Back Squat: 345(20lb PR) Bench Press: 300(40lb PR) I tried 305 but failed! Wanted to test both till muscle failure but was in the gym solo until one of my old airborne school black hats showed up. Appreciate the spot!! I have been challenged in so many ways this year(mentally even more so than physically)! I didn’t accomplish every goal I set for myself but can honestly look myself in the mirror and say I gave my best effort and didn’t cheat anyone else in the process. Man I spent 2.5 years working to get small, and now 3.5 months trying to get big! I know I won’t be huge overnight but the way my impatience is set up lol. 7.2 hilly miles in 7:33 pace. No watch, just a phone in my flip belt and a premeasured route. It’s so freeing!!!• • Because of my foot pain, I switched to a bulkier shoe. The @on_running Cloud Ace. It’s a bit heavier than I’m used to but I feel my feet are much more relaxed in them. I’m not gripping my toes trying to stabilize my (still) hypermobile arches (due to relaxin hormone from breastfeeding). I didn’t even realize I was doing that until I made the switch. I can’t wait to get back in the lighter weight Cloud Flow for tempos, marathon pace work, or races.... but I’ve been wearing these every waking hour of the day to give my tendons and ligaments more recovery time and I’m so grateful to have them! My only regret is that I didn’t wear them sooner- I was too afraid to add anymore variables to my plate with all the injuries. Another example of fear holding me back... Within a few seconds of thinking of taking action or doing something your mind steps in to protect you and will stop you from doing so many things. Whether it is stepping out the front door for a run or making a call you’ve been putting off. No matter how big or small the task is, your brain is designed to protect you and will tell you all the reasons you shouldn’t do something. The power is taking action before you talk yourself out of it. . . It is easy to say, it is easy for me to post and tell you what to do or how to take action, but you need to break patterns that aren’t good for you and develop new ones. It won’t be easy. Like creating muscle memory, you have to do it often and consistently so it becomes second nature. . . It won’t be easy, but it will be worth it. What a great morning so far to wake up early feeling tired but then, to get energized by looking at my beautiful teens (while they were sleep). Then, to get ampN up by taking a deep breath, focusing & started ThinKN about what I’ve done so far as a father/Man/person/friend and what I’m about to do more for us & everybody. It’s just amazing what life brings, makes you feel, & what it offers when you fight with all that you have to get that negative feeling or thought & flip it into reminding yourself of all that you have accomplish so far in your life. Okay so we have a new program coming out. I didn't think I would be interested in it. just because it is lifting weights. 💪 WELLLL I was wrong!!!! 💪 It is a 30 min workout, 15 mins of weights, 13 mins, of cardo and then a core workout at the end. Your mental health is absolutely everything🎗💕 I’m blessed that I grew up in a simpler time - Before social media, before smart phones, before revenge porn, before cyber bullying, before Facetune, before all the shit that creates anxiety and makes the mind fragile. People can’t tell how you feel if physically you look ok, so it may seem easier to try and hide it, to bury it all inside. As a healthcare professional I can say that roughly 60% of the patients that came through our doors were on anti-depressants - This is not a statistic, just an observation. So is the evolution is social media making us this way because we are creating unrealistic expectations for ourselves? Were our grandparents just better with dealing with ‘stress’? Or maybe the fact that ‘depression’ and ‘anxiety’ are being blasted all over the media make us more inclined to label ourselves with a diagnosis? Perhaps a combination of all of the above. Thankfully I’ve never been ‘depressed’ - I’ve had ‘down days’ experienced anxiety, which I think everyone has. But I now realise that you can only experience anxiety if you’re having somewhat negative thoughts. For anyone who has ever read ‘The Secret’ you will know that you cannot feel anxious and grateful at the same time - so practicing Gratitude on a daily basis has made me 90% less anxious!! It made me realise that it was actually my full time job that created these thoughts that made me feel that way - so in fact my ‘anxiety’ was circumstantial. It didn’t define me - I would never label myself as ‘suffering from anxiety’. So if this is something you do, maybe think about the root cause of your feelings - perhaps you can do something to change them. Focus on what you have, and be thankful, not on what you wish you had and be envious/unhappy. If you are feeling down, speak to someone rather than masking the feelings with prescription drugs. Stop watching the news which is rife with negativity. Stop letting people offload their negative energy upon you. Focus on building a strong mind - and know that you’re never alone 💗
