Let's not talk about the position of my knee over my ankle, friends. Let's just talk about stretching and finding a stretch that feels good for your body. Let's talk about holding said stretch for at least 20 seconds to actually get the benefits. . . The stretches at the end of my @toneitup hiit workout today blended right into Day 17 of #ywadedicate: Learn. Each day is just so fitting, and I know that's intentional. But our workouts and our nutrition give us such opportunities to learn. Everyone is so unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all path towards wellness. . . I'm constantly learning the mental health benefits of fitness and food. The way we move and the way we eat matter so much in terms of how we feel, mentally and emotionally. As someone who exists with Anxiety and a side of Depression, I do need a solid routine. A balance of cardio, strength, and yoga is ideal for me. Each form of fitness has its own way of keeping the brain monsters at bay. . . Cardio based workouts honestly provide the most relief for me, especially cardio kickboxing. I love just bouncing around, punching and kicking and engaging my core. I love imagining that I'm punching all of my little inner demons right in the face. I get the biggest endorphin release from cardio, for sure. It's as though I've just shaken everything out of me and can start fresh. . . Strength...provides just that. It's difficult, slower, steady. Still gets my heart pumping but forces me to focus on my form and breath, which takes my mind off of whatever nonsense I've made in my head. . . Stretching and yoga. Focusing on breath. It goes along with cardio for me because there's an endurance piece to both. They both really ask the question "how far can you take it?" And the answer is different, day to day. Yoga is more like playtime though, and I adore that. I vow to myself to never be totally focused on the asana or down on myself for not being "great" at it. The mindset matters most. It's just time for me to hit the mat and play intentionally. Such a sense of relaxation at the end. Healing for an anxious cranium. . . So many benefits. So much good for mental health. Love and light, friends.

I have a pretty nice home gym with commercial grade equipment. Yet, I choose to come here. Why? Because of the people. The coaches, the teammates, the lunchtime squad. That fun atmosphere that keeps me going when I want to quit or slack off. When Coach Trent stands over me while I'm finishing my last burpee box jump overs telling me to dig deeper and finish it strong. I can't feel my legs and my lungs are in my throat, but I feel like a rockstar when it's done. Yes, I can workout at home. But I don't work as hard by myself. For all my “new year,new me” friends who struggle with the number on the scale.... Today I weighed in at 180.6 # (which isn’t my heaviest ever but I would prefer to be in the 170s...or 160s if I did more cardio gave up beer)....also the pics above are me not sucking in or posing which I feel distorts what we all compare ourselves to on “the gram” of those super skinny or fit looking people. I am guilty of it too, basing my mood for the day on the what the scale says in the morning and I have to remind myself sometimes of these things : -My health can be measured many ways -I lift literally tons of weight in a single workout on a given day...muscle is required for that! -Muscle weighs more than fat (in that I’m roughly the same size measurements but I weigh 20 # more!) -the last time I weighed 160 # my measurements were roughly an inch smaller in my waistline and two to three inches smaller on my hips..... Long story short- fitness and “getting in shape” can be measured a million different ways other than the number on the scale! Started the day off with training arms and ended the day off with some cardio AND THEN SOME 😅😳.. Talk about a sweat sesh - my god ✅💦.. - Usually I go for a lil 4km stroll but today I really wanted to challenge myself hehe 💪🏽 (I think it had something to do with the fact that I was so shocked and proud of one of my ‘before and during’ photos that I put together today) 🙊📸 - ▫️Walked a couple of km’s for a warm up ✅ ▫️Bench work: jump up squats, tricep dips, step up kick backs, calf raises & one legged sit to stand ups (each exercise 15 x 3) 🥵✅ ▫️3 x 20m hill sprints ✅ ▫️3km run then 5km walk home keeping up the pace and getting a good sweat on the whole time ✅ - I’m feeling so good lately, so it’s hard not to have the biggest smile on my face. Have I ever told you how much I dislike cardio, lol 😂??? I do. But I know it’s good for me. I know it makes me stronger. But today’s 20-minutes had me like “Whoa!!! Please slow down ☺️” I did struggle through it today—and I strive to be honest and real here. So, maybe I didn’t go as “fast” as the people in my at-home workout. Maybe I modified some of the moves. Maybe I even slowed down so I could focus on form. That’s OK 👌 So, don’t let a “struggle day” throw you off your game. . . ✨TIP FRIDAY✨ . I know I can’t be the only one you can ROCK their nutrition during the week, and then just fall apart on the weekends 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ so I’ve learned a few rules that always helped me navigate my weekends, when it comes to get togethers, those weekend cravings, and prep. . So, I got by three rules, and they seem to help me pretty well: . #1 - water water water 💦 if you’re anything like me, you’re so on point with your water intake during the week, and then during the weekend, you either forget or get busy and forget to chug. So, here’s my rule of thumb, when I move, I chug. I get up to go to the bathroom, chug some water, load the dishwasher, chug, fold some laundry, chug. Even getting ready to go hangout with friends, chug! . #2 - pick your 10. We all have those favorite foods, those are 10’s. For me, I LOVE chips and salsa. So, if I got out to eat, I’ll skip the margarita and have some chips and salsa. Because I’d rather have what I really want, instead of having everything. Does that make sense? . #3 - veggies first! 🥬🥦🥕🍅🥗🥒 if there’s some kind of get together (which they’re typically), I always control what we bring. Typically, it’s some kind of veggie tray or veggie dish. That way, I can load up my plate with mostly veggies, and it helps me avoid all the other SUPER 10’s 🙈 don’t get me wrong, I’ll still have a handle of chips or a couple cookies, but focusing on veggies first, keeps me full and satisfied. . it’s that’s easy my friends! It doesn’t have to be complicated and it doesn’t have to feel like you can’t have a social life or love your favorites foods because you’re making a lifestyle change ❤️ . Remember, this is a marathon not a sprint ❤️

This morning's workout was a struggle! I overslept by an hour and a half. My mindset was just crap. This week has sucked and I honestly didn't want to get out of bed. I know its just a "job" but it gets to me. The environment I work in is incredibly toxic and I work 10-hour days. I am also on call 24/7 so its not just a job. Most of the time I can handle it but somedays it just gets to me! I literally fill my head with as much positivity to combat the negativity that surrounds me... I listened to podcasts, sermons and audiobooks on my drive in, I have post its on my computer with quotes that inspire me, I have an alarm that goes off twice a day reminding me to be "positive, patient and strong" I listen to relaxing music and try to drown everything out but Crap! Sometimes life is just hard! When I get in these ruts fitness always helps me. It helps my mood. I feel accomplished! And its sometimes the only "me time" I get. My career has been challenging so I remind myself I've gotten through worse and always made it out on top. My focus today is on what I can learn from this. The good people are teaching me skills I need to become a better producer. The bad people are teaching me what not to do as a leader. This is all making me stronger! And I have to remember this is just a phase and this too shall pass! Life is not always rainbows and butterflies but days and weeks like this make you appreciate the good days! You also have to find small wins and appreciate those too! So if you're reading this and struggling too lets encourage one another to stay strong together and to avoid gossip, jealousy and complaining because those activities bring us down rather than build us up! 5 days in and this step humbles me every day. Which is OKAY!!! Its okay to do hard things... actually its more than okay. I take breaks. I say potty words. I modify. I struggle. 🤷‍♀️ But you have to learn to love the struggle just as much as the reward. You can't reach the peak, without the climb. There is a problem with only wanting a change but not wanting to struggle. Go through the growing pains. Take breaks Say potty words. Modify. Struggle! Ok...not gonna lie, this new program is challenging me in a BIG way. I’ve been working out consistently 6 days/week for almost two years now and I STILL struggle when switching up my routine! I could let this frustrate me and convince myself to quit or revert back to what’s comfortable, BUT instead I have to remind myself that real change & growth happens when you push past your comfort zone. 👊 • I know I will come out of this six weeks mentally & physically stronger and that’s worth the hard stuff. I have stared at this for far too long. I can't believe how much has changed in a year. 🙈 I often hate talking about money so I avoid it like the plague, but I want you guys to know that this is my legitimate job ! My insanely fun job! It is my job to take pictures, to be present on social media, to take care of myself, and to help other people. Heck yes this job takes work, but for those who are willing to learn, anything is possible ! For a good chunk of last year I was a senior taking 18+ credit hours. I was travelling A LOT, sometimes to see the babes I work with IRL. I spent the last few months wedding planning. I tell you all this to remind you that everyone's life is crazy, you can do this too! This is my reality after my workout — today was Day 4 of T20 and it kicked my butt... I’ve never had to modify or take so many breaks before in a 20 minute program.. it was a tough one but I’m glad that I got it done 💪🏻 Here’s to a great Thursday ❣️
