I was at the gym on the treadmill today, just started running again last week, and before this my last run was over a month ago. My focus up to this point has been mainly on building strength rather than training endurance.... . I went on the treadmill and completely crushed it, surprised myself that I could run 8 miles without feeling winded after such a long break from running. I also have never used to run with any objective . Even more surprising was that I literally was not winded at all and felt I could run forever... and if I had not been on a time constraint today I probably would have. My breathing was effortless and my legs weren’t the least bit fatigued... I went into a state of meditation with my eyes closed on the treadmill and felt pure bliss. Nothing i’ve ever felt before compares to that moment. . My theory is it has been my diet allowing more nitric oxide secretion from the endothelium of my arteries and improved ability to carry oxygen through vasodilation and increased blood flow. ideal for endurance athletes, and has allowed this development to happen...without training cardio nonetheless. It really amazes me the power of food and a little exercise. 🌱 . Nitric oxide can also be taken exogenously through plant foods in the form of nitrate which gets converted...(not to be confused with nitrites, carcinogen in processed meat) . such foods as green leafy vegetables, cabbage, green beans and beets... which I have been eating in plentiful amounts. . . My goal now is to focus on endurance and train to run marathons. going to put strength training / bodybuilding on hold or do both for the time being with a decreased amount of lifting. SAVE THIS POST FOR LATER ↗️ - Which type of cardio is best? HIIT or LISS? - The answer might surprise you... - HIIT cardio is best for: 1. Time efficiency 2. Burning more calories post-exercise 3. Body composition 4. Intermediate to advanced individuals - That said, HIIT cardio requires more recovery time than LISS and produces greater stress on the body, so it's best performed just a few times per week, as too much HIIT can result in injury or exercise performance dips. - LISS, on the other hand, is best for: 1. Prolonged workouts 2. Quicker recovery 3. Endurance athletes 4. Beginners, intermediates and advanced exercisers - Additionally, LISS helps with mental stress as the so called "runners high" can be invigorating. On the downside, LISS can be quite boring (to some) and it has no real benefit to strength or muscle building. - So, which form of cardio is best? - Whichever form of cardio you enjoy the most, find doable, aligns with your goals and is sustainable long term. - Often, a mix of both HIIT and LISS is great, in combination with regular strength training. - Bottom line: both work! Working out sick.😷 . What are your limits when your sick and consistently trying to stay on track with workouts and being active? Everyone is different most importantly it's how you feel day to day.Do you like to try and sweat or do you feel better when your just resting all day? . Personally, my body feels better going through a little sweating while sick (some cardio and sauna) I feel like it keeps my system moving and flushing out junk quicker. I took a rest day yesterday. My body was just telling me to rest and recover. I always listen to my body more than my planned schedule first. So today I did light workout and a sauna. 16.5kgs down...what? 😱😱😱 Shout out to Team Murdoch's absolute superstar - Lorraine. What a huge inspiration you are Lorraine - congrats on achieving such incredible success. Thank you for sharing your journey with us! "A few years ago I had a back operation to fix a bulging disk. The surgeon told me to get back to a healthy weight range so it didn't reoccur. I started pilates to improve my core strength and walked to help with weight loss. but my weight was going up and not down and I still has back issues. Prior to starting inspire Fitness, murdoch, I was 95kgs, had high cholesterol (high enough the doctor wanted me to go on tablets) and elevated blood sugars bordering on Type 2 diabetes. I joined Inspire Fitness in march this year hoping to reverse these horrible numbers. Fast forward to today & I'm 16.5 kgs lighter, no longer have high cholesterol, and i'm in the normal range for blood sugars. I would not have been able to do this without the support and encouragement of my Inspire trainers, Melissa, Cassie & Shannon. Together they have whipped me into shape through their challenging and varied workouts. No two classes are ever the same. They have turned me into an exercise junkie and i'm loving the exercise endorphins. I got o classes 6 days a week and sometimes twice a day (boxing) so I can get to my weight loss goal. I'm only 6kgs away from the weight my GP set me,. but he probably wasn't expecting me to have muscles too. My balance, strength and stamina are much better. The back pain is gone! I still get workout pain but that's good pain, right Melissa? I would and do recommend joining Inspire Fitness to anyone who wants to improve their health and fitness. The murdoch Inspire Trainers and the other members make coming to class fun, but you have to challenge yourself if you want to get the best results. We can't get over how noticable happier, healthier and YOUNGER Lorraine looks - Incredible!
