Fitness check in, how are we doing out there with getting those workouts in? I’ve been working out and doing little things when I can like kettlebell swings, dumbbell cleans, lunges and burpees throughout my work day. In a sorta lieu from #tacotuesday, I decided to do a gyro substitute for said Mexican hand food with the remainder of @grassfedglatt 's ground beef and ground lamb. I over salted the patties made from their meat and over cooked it a bit, but even then they were very good. Also, made a coronarita with @corzotequila silver, a salted rim, and Corona selzters. #operationhotdogstobratwursts still underway here in this house. - After a week of at home workouts, we have found it is definitely a little more challenging for lower body lifts since we typically use heavier weights at the gym. - 🏋🏻‍♀️ Research on traditional loading requirements for hypertrophy during strength sessions requires loads at or above 65% of an individual’s one rep max (1RM). - Insert blood flow restriction (BFR) training (aka ‘occlusion’ training) - ↪️ Research on BFR training shows that loads as low as 20-30% of 1RM can create the same hypertrophy stimulus! - ❓BFR = band the proximal aspect of the muscle (highest part of the quad) to limit blood returning to your heart while allowing arterial blood to continue to circulate into the muscle. - Since we don’t have heavy equipment at home, we have been implementing a lot of BFR for an effective lower body hypertrophy stimulus, and MAN it is a challenge! - Here we are doing BFR front squats with just a 45 lb bar, which is PLENTY! You can perform this movement with DBs rested on your shoulders, as well. - ➡️ How to implement BFR: - Wrap a band (here we are using BFR specific straps. Tourniquets work too) at ~7 out of 10 tightness scale - Load (DB or BB) around 20-30 % of your estimated 1RM - Perform 4 sets total: 1. Set 1: 30 reps. 30 second rest 2. Set 2: 15 reps 30 s rest 3. Set 3: 15 reps 30 s rest 4. Set 4: 15 reps - Achieve a HAYUGE pump and gains! 💪🏼 - V important - have an audience to cheer you on. - PS: this can be used for upper body training, as well! A tool in your toolbox to use during times like this!

Even though us Canadians have not been placed into a state of lockdown I know many of us are already struggling mentally to cope with the ever changing landscape of the world at large. Take a minute and breathe. ⌛️ : Take this as an opportunity to reflect and really slow down. Take time for you. Do what makes you feel human and in charge. We have no control over the world but we are fully in control of how we react to it. That’s where your power lies. Hug your kids. Kiss you partner. Enjoy a meal with your family at the dinner table. Call your friends. Read a book. 🥰 : I have decided that my mental health depends on me moving everyday. I have a very physically demanding job but now I have no choice but to take a break. Working really hard to eliminate the hip from my muscle ups. This variation is challenging in the sense that I'm not able to swing at all, but it's easier in the sense that the barbell rolls freely which allows for an easier transition over the bar. #transformationtuesday Its like I saved this outfit for just posting lol. It's important to remember where you came from. Where you started. ALL the work that goes in to changing not just what you eat, but how you live. On the left I exercising moderately. Still eating trash and had an incredibly stressful job. In the second pic on the left, about 16 months ago, I had switched to a much less stressful job, I was walking regularly and eat #ketostrong. But comparing both pics to the one on the right really friggin shows me that hard work for almost TWO years is everything. This is the only thing I have stuck to consistently well enough to make change (in anything). Switching to #carnivore was the best decision I could have made. But even foods like eggs, certain bacteria fermented foods, crustacean fishes(crabs, lobsters, shrimp etc.) must be new to us. Even fermented milk products like cheese can cause intolerance. Also different regions and ethnicities get used to certain foods that others won't. People blaming meat for allergies/intolerances must see the quality of the meat. Preservative-laden or cured meats can cause intolerances but not a well-sourced fresh meat. We seem to have become more concerned about ethical practices lately. But people just forgot or are ignorant of historical unethical practices. Although I'm not a huge fan of ethics, but if implemented, it must cover everything, including agriculture. Magnesium is ubiquitous and found in almost all foods and even drinking water. Being such a critical nutrient, our ancestors should never have had any problem getting sufficient amounts of it. RDA for magnesium is a joke. 420mg for men and 320mg for women. These are too high, given that we retain 95-99% of magnesium by renal filtration. The RDA was also calculated for 60% carb diet. This kind of diet will have periodic blood glucose fluctuations. Hyperglycaemia and hyperinsulinemia increases the renal excretion of magnesium. I know it's easier said than done but why not start taking steps in that direction? If there is a public demand, these food companies will comply. Honestly, its the grain-fed meat that's giving a bad reputation to our true ancestral diet. It's kinda sad to read all these propaganda-driven researches with poorly designed methodology. Just by reading the abstract, we get some message. Vegans' ethical arguments are complete bull**it. If they really care about life, they shouldn't be born in the first place, which deprived other sperms and even got killed. Pseudoscience can be false or exaggerated claims made by the proponents, without systemic analysis. The proponents can also adhere to the claims long after it's been discredited, also called cognitive dissonance. A Carnivore diet atleast has an evolutionary basis. But there is not archaeological or anthropological evidence or a known culture that practiced veganism for generations. The biggest of all veganism claims is the climate change. Climate is changing, but meat consumption has almost negligible effect on it. Climate has always been changing even before human evolution. Another claim is the plant's nutritive value. Redness of a meat is due to a muscle protein called myoglobin. Myoglobin binds to oxygen and supplies energy to the muscles. These are also the muscles constantly "at work" as they are present in most used body parts like legs, tails, fins (for fish), etc. Cows and buffaloes contain more redder meat than pigs, poultry, as cows stand, walk and are active all day compared to lazy pigs. Now, as these red tissues are constantly working, they are more nutrient demanding. So red meat contains higher amount of the nutrients like proteins, zinc, iron, thiamine, riboflavin and vitamins B6 & B12. These nutrients are also present in white meat but in lesser quantities. White meats like fish, poultry, pork, etc, contain more unsaturated fatty acids, which turn rancid at high temperatures, making them carcinogenic. Of course, if you can stomach eating white meats raw or minimally processed, its fine. Even with cows, some cuts are redder than others. So if you are nutrient deficient or recovering, better pick the redder cuts. Also feedlot cow meats are less red than free-range cows as feedlot cows are butchered young and work less.
