It seems like the question of the week is "How can I get back into exercise without doing too much?". I have worked with several clients with a history of over/compulsive and/or obligatory exercise. When exercise has been intertwined with the ED it can be difficult to separate"seem" difficult to separate. This may be more difficult if there have been periods of time when exercise was not allowed. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I like focusing on the word movement rather than exercise. This allows us to think of the many ways our bodies function and the things we can do. I play tennis, I play soccer, I love practicing yoga-- I do these things because my body enables me too. I love doing these things and am grateful that God allows my body to do them. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ My favorite thing to use in the beginning is yoga-- so much so that I got certified ⁠⠀ 200 RY-HR plus an additional trauma sensitive certification. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Practicing yoga enables clients to become more attundede with their bodies during recovery and is a powerful tool to use during trauma recovery. ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ I also recommend a skilled trainer to my clients. A knowledgeable trainer can guide clients in building back a healthy routine or beginning one for the first time. PM me if you would like information on this. It is about the story of Joseph and how God carried him out of the pit of slavery to be king. Wow, if he can use broken things---- then "here I am Lord". ⁠⠀ ⁠⠀ Jesus did not come to hang out with the rich- He came for the sinners. I take so much peace in knowing that He will completely redeem our stories. ⁠⠀ Your journey may seem impossible right now. It may seem too painful to take one more step. For a Sunday night activity, I created an account in Kurbo for my son. Not that it matters, but he is a “healthy weight”. He has mastered air quotes. I wish he could use them now. Anyways, I was able to bypass the “parent consent” and sign up my seven year old who has a BMI that Kurbo says the app is not made for. What’s up with that? The conversation on using BMI is for another post. According to Kurbo, my son did not do so well. Did you know peanut butter is “red”? I always thought it was good for you. Maybe they think he has an allergy? They did not ask any medical questions so that could not be why peanut butter is RED. Cheese, Honey Nut Cheerios are also RED. Gosh, a life without cheese?? #wakeupweightwatchers #donttakethecheese After signing up, you pick a fruit or veggie avatar. Are you freaking kidding me? What child wants to have this be their avatar? Rise and Shine! Are you an early riser or a night owl? I am an early riser and secretly love waking up before anyone else to enjoy some coffee and time alone. I have found that protecting *at least* an hour of my morning and not getting on my phone is helpful to set my day up for success. I make a cup of coffee, spend some time in the word, and usually get to work. The morning time is way more productive for me so I usually knock out my hardest tasks before the sun even comes up! What about you?

TBH, I never used to be a reader, but thanks to @audible and @amazonkindle --I now "read" all the time! Readers are leaders, right? 📗And oddly enough, most of the books I read actually have NOTHING to do with nutrition. Eating behavior can be greatly impacted by sleep, and I notice a huge difference in what I crave throughout the day when I get enough rest at night. Thankfully we live in a world where we have access to amazing technology and “theres an app for that!” ⠀ -Sleep Cycle: Its $0.99 and totally worth it! It tracks movements and analyzes sleep patterns to wake you up when you are in the lightest phase of sleep so that you feel more rested. It’s a much more peaceful way to wake up than being jolted out of bed by your alarm! ⠀ ⠀ -Headspace: It’s a simple meditation app that helps to calm the mind before sleep. It is recommended that we decrease bluelight exposure 2-3 hours before bed but for some, that might be unrealistic. Creating a sleep routine can be a great way to cue your body that it’s time to go to bed. Just like a baby would have a sleep routine—adults should too! ⠀ It doesn’t have to be complicated, but something that sends a trigger to your brain to tell it that it’s time to go to bed (and not time to run another load of laundry!) ⠀ Maybe you like a hot cup of tea, or you have a favorite pair of pajamas…whatever it is, do that every night to start developing a sleep habit. Maybe it could look something like this: ⠀ Drink a hot cup of chamomile tea, brush teeth and wash face, put on soft pajamas and socks, spray essential oils on your pillow, and get in bed WITHOUT electronics (Trust me—I am guilty too!) ⠀ ⠀ ⠀ Do you have a sleep routine? Why does getting enough sleep matter?⠀ Not getting enough sleep actually increases stress hormones like cortisol, which can make you crave sugar, lead to overeating and make you feel more stressed. Did you know that sleep can have a huge impact on appetite and overeating? Sleep regulates the hormones that control our metabolism and eating behavior...so a few hours of missed sleep can ultimately lead to overeating. I don’t know about you, but it’s hard to get my recommended “8 hours” of sleep per night. We’ve all heard it--breakfast is the “most important meal of the day”--but why? Well, let’s think about it. Breakfast is actually “breaking the fast” after sleeping for hours (hopefully!) and is the first clue to your body that it is time to start the day. Starting your day off with adequate fuel is your first step at helping to regulate blood sugar, provide energy and prevent that “3:00 slump” later in the day. Breakfast is important for everyone, both kids and adults--it starts our day on the right foot and helps our bodies and mind’s work best! As we head quickly into 2019, here are a few of my thoughts of gratitude, highlights, and wishes :). . It has almost been 2 years since ED for RDs has been reaching RDs from all around the world. Please know that not only am I thankful for your dedication to learning more about eating disorder care, but I know your clients are thankful too! Your interest in supporting this vulnerable yet rewarding population is helping to make this world a safer place for individuals to find a peaceful relationship with food and their bodies. . To my clients who are learning to find freedom from their self-silencing Eating disorder and allowing themselves to grow. You are worth it. We will keep fighting! .
