This past weekend, we participated in @ahntoday Saint Vincent's annual #FestivaloftheTrees in Erie, PA – this year’s theme was "HOPE for the Holidays." Our tree included ornaments decorated by Caring Place families and butterflies of hope designed by festival attendees to honor their loved ones. Thanks to everyone who came out and made the event a success! #grief #childrensgrief #hope #remember #remembrance #child #children #Erie #Pennsylvania #CGADHOPE #Christmas #Christmastree

Trying to learn something new even thought I don’t forget. That way I can breathe again, and it will hurt less. It will be hard anyway. Everyday I think in 3 months you will be so much more far from now and it will be fine. Honestly my brain don’t work well anymore and I have memory issues but I try my best to learn a new language #loss #griefsupport #griefjourney #griefandloss #griefquotes #grieving #healingprocess #healing #healingslowly #love #mourning #griefshare #breakthesilence #family #griefhealing #griefisreal #mentalhealthawareness #griefislove #uca #griefrecovery #rip #captureyourgrief #hope #inspiration #griefquote #grievingmother #selflove #cgadhope #pain

My name is Nicole, I am current intern and facilitator at Good Grief in Morristown. Six years ago, when I was fifteen year old, my father died from a heroin overdose. A rush of emotions came over me, I was angry, broken and lost. Being in a school with as many as three thousand other students, I never felt more alone. I found it easy to isolate myself from my peers, as they did not share this life experience in common. Although, during my lowest points, I had found support in unexpected places. Teachers, guidance counselors and family friends offered support and assistance wherever needed, and while not always taken, knowing it was there slowly brought back feelings of security. The introduction of Good Grief this year has been nothing but reassurance of my grief process, and that what I felt and continue to feel is normal... and that grief is good. 💙💚 #CGADGg . #ChildrensGriefAwarenessMonth #childrengrieve #CGADHope #grief #story #hope #inspiration #children #kids #teen #family #supprt #community #courage #morristown #princeton #jerseycity #newark #nj #newjersey

My name is Jeanette, I’m a Good Grief alumnus and I’m on the Board of Trustees. My husband died 6 years ago, leaving me to raise our young triplets. While the first few years were a struggle, trying to fit in and find our footing, Good Grief offered my kids and me a bi-weekly dose of peer support - and pizza - that saved our lives. Family and friends blessed us with kindness and love to support us in the aftermath of our loss. Good Grief’s incredible staff and facilitators were experts at bringing folks together and fostering a sense of fitting in or belonging. They gave us a community. So, where are we today? My kids are happy and healthy and preparing to go to college in the fall. We actively work with Good Grief in raising awareness for such a wonderful organization. My kids and I understand that there will always be families that need grief services, resources, education, and support; that’s why we give back to this incredible community! 💙💚 #CGADGg . #ChildrensGriefAwarenessMonth #childrengrieve #CGADHope #grief #story #hope #inspiration #children #kids #teen #family #supprt #community #courage #morristown #princeton #jerseycity #newark #nj #newjersey

Hi there, my name is Morgan Fenton and I am here to talk about my grief story. My dad died when I was 7-years-old. When I found out my dad died, I felt really upset and wanted to cry - so I cried! I felt sad and angry (and maybe a little tiny bit annoyed!). My Aunt Colleen was helpful because after she told me, she suggested we play some board games together so we could talk and ask more questions. After we played a few board games and talked about daddy dying, I was still very upset. My aunts who were there, (Aunt Colleen and Aunt Christie) slept on our bedroom floor to help me and my sister go to sleep. My Aunt Colleen was also helpful because she let me and my sister live with her! I want the community to know that they should face their fears when a person dies like me and my sister did. I also what them to know that family is there to support you. 💙💚 #CGADGg . #ChildrensGriefAwarenessMonth #childrengrieve #CGADHope #grief #story #hope #inspiration #children #kids #teen #family #supprt #community #courage #morristown #princeton #jerseycity #newark #nj #newjersey

We all want to support our friends, colleagues and neighbors when their family is experiencing a life-threatening illness, or when someone has died. Our first impulse may be to bring food, and if we’re lucky, a “meal train” will be organized to make this happen in an orderly fashion. . Often, people want to do more — but they are not sure how to be truly helpful. We may find it natural to say to a friend in crisis, “Let me know if I can do anything.” This is said, of course, with the best of intentions — the person speaking really does want to be helpful. . The problem with such a general offer is that it places the burden of determining what is needed on the recipient, and they are probably exhausted and overwhelmed, and may not know what they need. Worse, it requires them to reach out if they do think of something. Chances are, they won’t want to interrupt your life at that point to ask. . My name is Sean, I’m a Good Grief Facilitator. My brother, Brian, died July 5, 2010. It was an accident that took us all by surprise; everything about my life seemed to change that day. The immediate pain was like nothing I had ever experienced - I quickly switched from disbelief, to anger, to gut-wrenching sadness. Brian's death happened just over a month after my wedding. My wife, Erin, was incredibly supportive; best friend, Shawn, was very helpful; and my family (Mom, Dad, Caitlin, and Danny) all came together to support each other and share memories of Brian. Grief is truly a journey. There are many twists and turns, even 10 years later. Recently, I started to feel Brian's death effecting me again, making me scared to connect with things that I love in my life. After struggling with these feelings, I sought some help and stumbled upon Good Grief. I decided to volunteer as a facilitator. Going through the training and being a witness to others' experience with grief on Nights of Support has given me freedom from the struggles I was experiencing. I'm really grateful for Good Grief's existence and the opportunity to support it - I feel like I receive so much more than I give 💙💚 #CGADGg . #ChildrensGriefAwarenessMonth #childrengrieve #CGADHope #grief #story #hope #inspiration #children #kids #teen #family #supprt #community #courage #morristown #princeton #jerseycity #newark #nj #newjersey

My name is Tanya and I am a facilitator at Good Grief. I was 15-months-old when I lost my father. Unfortunately, there was this fear around talking about him, the accident and our loss in general. My mom was devastated and it was really hard for me to bring it up or even show her how I was really feeling. I felt like she had been through enough already and I didn’t want to add to her grief. As a result, I was really lonely. I felt so isolated because I had no one to turn to when my feelings got too overwhelming. No child should have to navigate through their grief alone. Good Grief makes sure that that doesn’t happen. Caring facilitators encourage grieving kids to talk about their loss with peers who understand. Talking about your loss is a big step in the healing process. I wish I had had Good Grief to help me through one of the toughest times in my life. 💙💚 #CGADGg. . #ChildrensGriefAwarenessMonth #childrengrieve #CGADHope #grief #story #hope #inspiration #children #kids #teen #family #supprt #community #courage #morristown #princeton #jerseycity #newark #nj #newjersey
