Here is a shot from #bostoncityhall From my ongoing #series #lookasklearn The following is quoted from the 1850 Boston Almanac, with a historic description of the original Custom House building: Custom House Tower Boston Custom House Tower "Situated at the head of the dock between Long and Central Wharves, fronts east on the dock, west on India Street, and is in the form of a Greek Cross, [with] the opposite sides and ends being alike. It is 140 feet long north and south, 75 feet wide at the ends, and 95 feet through the centre. It is built on about 3,000 piles, fully secured against decay; the construction throughout is fireproof and of the very best kind. The exterior of the building is purely Grecian Doric, not a copy, but adapted to the exigencies and peculiarities of the structure, and consists of a portico [overhang] of 6 columns on each side, on a high flight of steps, and an order of engaged columns around the walls, 20 in number, on a high stybolate or basement; the order of engaged columns terminating with 4 andae [pilasters] at their intersection with the porticos. The columns are 5 feet 4 inches in diameter and 32 feet high, the shaft being in one place, each weighing about 42 tons. Morning walkthrough. Margaret Street, where the buildings bear plaques telling the stories of the Italian immigrant families who owned them, and blue signs mark streets and squares renamed to honor local residents. If you’ve never been here, I often hear Italian, often in one of the southern dialects, spoken in the street. I use my Italian with anyone who’ll speak it with me. At one restaurant a guy told me I had the accent of Abruzzi. A different perspective. • • • Finally starting to edit the pictures from the girl gang’s weekend in Boston and Salem! (@sydney.carlo & @emma.barhydt) I think our number 1 accomplishment this weekend was not getting frostbite. Not gonna lie, I was really frustrated with the pictures I got this weekend and I felt like I let myself down. But I took a step back and reminded myself that at the end of the day it’s not about the content you get, it’s more about the people you’re with. I’m happy to say I was with two of the best people out there 💛. I’m looking forward to more adventures like this soon! (Hopefully it will be warmer) But enjoy this building under construction. The lights were absolutely breathtaking.
