Planks with loose skin 💕 The loose skin I have is improving more and more each day. I wish I had taken pics like this previously to show the progress (no lie, my skin used to be only about 2” from the ground)- but at least I have some pics now 😉 2018 has been a great year for weightloss and incorporating fueling my body with all the nutrients it needs through my daily food intake- 2019 my focus will be to build strength (even if that means gaining weight by the scales standards) and naturally tighten and fill in the loose skin I have left. Its been incredible to watch my body repair itself through building strength and I am so excited to continue to progress and see how far I can take my body 🙃 I will always have stretch marks, I don’t expect to have a “perfect bikini body” but to look at my past, to see all I have put my body through and where it is today, I am beyond proud to rock my loose skin and will never be afraid to let my stretch marks show. Never underestimate the value of a good warm up. Just like a car your body needs oil in the joints. After you’ve been stagnant for a long time this oil collects at the bottom of the joint, so when you are going to start a workout you need to spread the oil around to lubricate it. The best way to do this is with dynamic stretches. Here is a quick full body warm up that you can do before you start your day, before a run, before a gym session, workout or just when you’re feeling stiff from lying on the couch for too long coz holiday. . To crunch or not to crunch? ❓I've gotten asked quite a few times in fitness classes and training sessions why I don't incorporate crunches into my programs. 1️⃣ Spinal flexion (rounding of the back) is something we do too often these days (hunching over computers and over our cellphones) why not take the opportunity to strengthen your muscles in the way they should be aligned -with the spine in neutral. This position we are constantly stuck in leads to bad posture and back pain, strengthening your entire core , not just the "six pack muscles"(crunches just target those- the rectus abdominis) can improve that. 2️⃣ Repetitive spinal flexion (especially when done incorrectly, which is often the case) can lead to injury. It can compress the spine in a way that can lead to herniated discs. It may not be that extreme, but at the very least can cause back pain. 3️⃣ There are more functional roles to the core than spinal flexion, like midline stabilization and preventing hyperextension of the spine. I prefer to train with these functional goals in mind, strengthening in ways that will come in to play in everyday living. 4️⃣ I work with many pre and post natal clients and crunches are not a good option for before or after pregnancy. The outward pressure crunches place on the abdominals can lead to or exacerbate diastasis recti (the separation of the abs). 5️⃣ They bore me. Crunches don't excite many people and there are tons of more dynamic core training exercises. We create our destiny by our decisions. I set myself 10 new fitness goals and although some see 'impossible' such as the front lever why the hell not see that something so far fetched can be made possible? I also have a dream which I never like to say but to open my own gym in Bali one day. It seems crazy and like it could never happen but if I apply these 3 principles each day to my life then it can be done. Just about at the half way mark for my Pilates Advent Calendar and today's exercise for Day 12 is Leg Pull Front. If you don't know this one, think of it as planking with moving parts! A whole body workout that requires a lot of core and shoulder stability as well as ankle mobility. Let’s go! 1️⃣ Start from #tadasana (remember how to perform this asana? If not, make sure to refresh to yourself) 2️⃣ With an exhale bend the tank forward, catch the back of your right leg with your left hand. Place your right hand on the floor. 3️⃣ At the same time lift the left leg as high as you can. Important to keep your hips parallel to the floor (check if your left hip is not turning to the left ❗️). Both legs should be active, knees up, toes of the left leg pointing upwards. Do not tilt sideways. 4️⃣ Balance firmly on your right feet, breathe deeply to stay for 1min or less. Then inhale, bring the left leg down and come back to Tadasana. Repeat with another side. ☺️ . . 3 DIFFERENT "SIT THROUGH" PROGRESSIONS FOR YOU TO TRY 😀😄 Let's be honest, you probably don't incorporate enough rotational or anti-rotational patterns in your training.. don't worry, I got you covered 😉 Sit throughs are a fantastic exercise to integrate rotation and encompass a high core demand and fit well as a metabolic conditioning drill. So in English 👉🏼 you get awesome bang for your buck from this exercise both strength and even cardio wise. But how do you advance this exercise? 🤷🏼‍♂️ Each clip shows a different variation getting progressively more difficult. Full breakdown below 👇🏼 Bookmark | Tag a friend | Give them a try 👍🏼 • ------------------------------- Full Breakdown------------------------- • 😀 • Video 1 ■ BASIC SIT THROUGH: start in a table top position (4 point hold). Rotate and sit one hip and thigh perpendicular to the midline of the body (bend the knee if flexibility is an issue). Shoulders should be horizontally aligned at the end of the rotation (full torso rotation). Return to 4 point hold, alternate leg. • Video 2 ■ SIT THROUGH TO STAND: as per above with a standing position start and finish. Perform desired repetitions. Only progress to this variation once you are comfortable and proficient in the basic sit through. • Video 3 ■ SINGLE LEG SQUAT SIT THROUGH: A progression after the sit through to stand. Perform a single leg squat to the ground. As you reach the bottom, use the arm on the straight leg side to support you as you transition into rotation to alternate to the sit through for the opposite leg. Once you reach the other side, use a single leg squat (now on the alternate leg) to come up to a standing position. Repeat for desired repetitions.
