Little girl is starting to chew on everything and drool so it was time to dig out the stash of bibs. Looking at this bag takes me back to my first baby with reflux. If you have a baby with reflux you’ll go through a metric assload of laundry with all the bibs, burp cloths, sleepers and your own puked on clothing. . This bag has 19 bibs in it and I’m sure we’ve got more around here somewhere. What a wild time that was. I still can’t believe it took us almost 2 years to figure out what the trigger for his reflux was and that a food intolerance was never suggested or taken seriously by our family doctor, paediatrician, ENT or chiropractor. Not blaming, just shocked that it was a fluke in discovering his dairy intolerance. #thankful

Sometimes you just have to roll with it. . Life’s been a little off-kilter this week, what with me planning and executing a baptism in 6 days, then cutting out dairy for this little one, which included doctor appointments I didn’t have on my calendar and a revamping of my meal plan while doing a sugar detox. Oh, and I didn’t send my kid to school with snow clothes today, so that feels good. 🤦🏼‍♀️ . My point? Things happen. Ditching dairy while ditching most was not my plan. Suddenly losing sleep because the baby doesn’t feel good wasn’t my plan. Missing a workout wasn’t my plan. But it’s okay. I’m not “off the wagon,” I didn’t fail, I’m not back at square one. . Definitely Friday and definitely running low on things to pack.... Both have strawberries & vitamins M’s box has animal crackers, pink goldfish, & a GFB (apparently I let them get stale bc she came home and was appalled that her cookie ball was “a rock”) H has cheese crackers and a cheese stick 😜. Since I’m limiting M’s dairy intake, I’ve been giving H more cheese in his snack box when she won’t know he’s getting it...he’s loving it. He could eat cheese and crackers happily every day, no matter the type. Everyone headed out of town for a night to celebrate Christmas with extended family so I am solo with the baby. I’m hating that it’s Monday, so... here’s a photo of me and my all gluten / dairy free and low FODMAP dinner I was lucky enough to be made at @musebrasserie in Cheltenham recently 🥰. I had the opportunity to speak directly to the chef about my dietary requirements and they catered just as I requested. I had poached salmon to start, then (as pictured) duck with a balsamic based onion free sauce, dairy free mash and roasted veggies ...there was sorbet available too but I was too full🙃. I loved the decor 🌸 and atmosphere in the restaurant plus how relaxed they made me feel about what I was eating! Definitely worth going!! 😊. Solid Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups flour 2 tbsps. brown sugar 1 tsp baking powder ½ tsp baking soda ½ tsp salt 1 ½ tsp cinnamon 1/4 tsp nutmeg . Mix together solid ingredients in a large bowl. . In a separate bowl, mix together liquid ingredients. . Make a well in the center of your solid ingredients, then slowly pour in liquid ingredients. . Mix well to create your batter. Note that the batter for waffles is thicker than pancakes as this helps to keep its form. . Pour batter on to preheated waffle griddle. Cook until golden brown. Serve them up toasty warm! . Breakfast is served 🥞 After realising oats where affecting my skin I’ve been trying new things. This is a mix of brown rice flakes and quinoa flakes cooked like oatmeal. Cooks up exactly like oatmeal and doesn’t taste that different from the original thing. I flavoured it with carob and sweet potato powder (not failsafe) and also mixed through some crushed cashews and carob kibble

#eatingout : Iced Coffee ☕️ • Saturdays @freefromevents in Bristol introduced us to @mylkguys iced coffee, as well as so much more! This little carton was dairy free iced coffee. Something that’s quite hard to find! I’ve only ever seen one place sell the Starbucks iced coffee made with almond milk so I was really excited to try this! It was very sweet and brilliantly tasty. In a perfectly sized hand held carton with just the right amount. LACTOSE // aka naturally occurring sugar in milk. Did you know that are if you are lactose intolerant you can generally still tolerate between 12-15g/day?? (Advised not be consumed on an empty stomach and spread throughout the day). . 🔶People who are lactose intolerant are lacking in the enzyme ‘lactase’. Lactase acts as a pair of scissors that breaks lactose into glucose and galactose. Some people are born with, or develop an intolerance to lactose. Did you know that if you stop eating dairy foods your body stops producing lactose and you may develop an intolerance this way. Another cause could be a genetic variation, or due to normal ageing of the gut . 🔶Here are some commonly consumed dairy containing foods that a lactose intolerant individual will still be able to consume! . 🔶Dairy is the best source of calcium so if you are lactose intolerant and currently consuming plant based alternatives, make sure it is fortified with calcium eg milk or cheese . 🔶Eating yoghurts closer to the expiry date will reduce the lactose content as the lactose is used as a fuel source for probiotics in the product . 🔶If you have IBS, you may be hypersensitive to symptoms of lactose intolerance . Almost 2 years ago I drank my firsr pink drink. Many things have changed since then in my life since then and they continue to change. One thing that has changed is my health, which includes so many things! I swear I’m not trying to be difficult when I don’t eat gluten and now dairy. They kill my stomach and for a good week or 5 after if I accidentally eat it. I wish I could eat gluten and dairy ( I’m more sad about no cheese and sour cream then gluten... but maybe because I’ve had longer to come to terms with having #celiac then a #dairyintolerance)

Most of the problem with dairy products comes from the way it is produced and processed. Factory farms produce milk that is nutritionally corrupt, adding permeates, removing fat, destroying enzymes and effectively creating a ‘dairy-like’ product. That is no longer like the dairy we used to consume. Not to mention the ill treatment of animals, the hormones given to keep cows them producing, their poor diets (soy, sugar) and cheap feed sources, and the environmental impact of these irresponsible methods. The first switch you should make with all dairy is to grass fed, organic and sustainably farmed. Do your research. Buy from your local health food store. Second, not everyone can tolerate dairy. Even if you think you can, you may have just adapted. There can be a number of reasons from genetics to your microbiota, and of course stress. The amount of lactase (the enzyme we make that breaks down lactose) can vary from day to day (even if you’re lactose intolerant you can make up to 14mg/day of lactase), and is impacted by the ‘rest and digest’ part of the polyvagal nervous system. You may find you can digest certain types of dairy, or that your reactions vary. You may have bloating, skin problems, excess mucus or constipation. And dairy may be the cause. Or it may be the trigger. Most people need a break from dairy to fully assess (this is what we do in both my 10 and 30 day programs). After a break, most can reintroduce dairy slowly, and see how they feel. What I’m stressing is that it really comes down to quality and quantity with dairy, and it’s not necessary for most to avoid all dairy forever. In fact, all of the 7 dairy foods I’ve listed can be very beneficial. From vitamin K2, butyrate, probiotics and 99% bioavailability in whey protein isolate. Nutritionally dairy has a lot to offer. You have to know your body. And be willing spend more on better quality. You may need to address underlying issues (ie gluten intolerance or SIBO) that may be making you react to dairy. Post 3 of 3 - Friday night tea; after a busy week of getting back to normal, brutal gym sessions from @mrs.sweendogg, it was definitely a carb refuel dinner tonight! Another one from @thebodycoach book of “30 minute meals” Chicken and Saffron Ragu, absolutely delish!! Pasta has always been one of my favourite foods, so finding new recipes to try out, is amazing! A hearty, full bodied pasta dish, with the sharpness of the olives coming through, was definitely the right choice for a Friday night. #EatingOut Boston Tea Party, Cheswick. • A trip out for lunch last weekend meant we finally got to @btpcafes @btpcheswick ‘s brunch menu🤪🤤 My goodness it was good. Noah born 33 weeks +5 days 2009 5lb 6oz. Rainbow baby, gestational diabetes, 5 days in slow labour possibly brought on by a urine infection, steroid injections, went into full labour at 33+5 days, epidural and natural birth. Jaundiced and struggling to breathe. 3 and a half weeks stay in scbu. CPAP, UV light therapy and tube fed. Initially breastfed but failed to gain weight and thrive so with the threat of being re-admitted to hospital he was put on formula. Severe acid reflux with projectile vomit. Gaviscon, ranitidine and domperidone. Very colicky baby. Potty training took a very long time from age 3-4. Still not dry at night, never had a dry night in his life. 2020 grammar school candidate. Has won awards for being top in school at maths. Long term bladder problems and nocturnal enuresis. A lot of issues with behaviour over the years but now very independent and mature. Effie born 33 weeks +4 days 2011 5lb 5oz. Spontaneous rupture of membranes at 33+4, cord prolapse, emergency cesarean, severe blood loss, Effie resuscitated. Jaundiced and struggling to breathe. 2 weeks stay in scbu, CPAP, UV light therapy and tube fed. Breastfed til 6 months then onto formula, she developed breathing problems relating to feeding and after being admitted to hospital they decided it was a dairy intolerance. Potty trained within a week and dry at night since age 4. Acute raynaud's disease, auditory processing disorder. Testing for dyspraxia, dyscalculia and dyslexia, teeth grinder, mouth breather, snorer, fussy eater, dislike of certain textures of food. Friday night when we went to dinner, I had salmon and mashed potatoes. I should have known better than eat the mashed potatoes, because my belly has not been happy with me since. It’s crazy how 1 slip up in eating something that has dairy, that my body can not handle sends me into a tail spin for several days. I have not been sticking to my Thrive lately either, & I am paying for that as well. My TMJ pain has returned, & my upset gut. So this morning I took all 3 steps of my Thrive, & made myself a shake. I need this to help calm down my belly & all the dairy bloat. At lunch I went to get some probiotics, even though there is probiotics in my Thrive I need them double time right now to settle my gut down. Not a glamorous post by no means, but it’s life right now. #MotivationMonday! ✨ I have been following @cmpamum through her food allergy journey and I admire her so much. First, she is an incredible advocate for her son and isn't afraid to stand her ground. 💪🏼 Second, she is so ingrained in this community. 🥰 I see her answering questions and helping others all the time. 👀 💙 Tell us about your allergy story. Our allergy journey started at 6 months. Rocco had been diagnosed with reflux at 6 weeks but even with medication he wasn’t improving. When we began weaning he wouldn’t keep any dairy products down, as soon as they hit his stomach, up they would come. We went back to the doctors for what felt the millionth time and I asked about CMPA and me going dairy free. They said I wasn’t to change my diet without their support. I left the room knowing full well I wouldn’t be eating dairy again!  After 2 weeks he was a different baby, the nappies cleared first then the sickness stopped. The doctors wouldn’t refer to dietitian without me doing the milk challenge, so I did it. What followed was a week of severe sickness and reaction nappies. They had no choice me but to admit we were right!  After 6 months we attempted to dairy ladder, failed step one within a few days. We are still dairy free, and he turns 2 next month. We have failed the ladder 3 times and had a few accidental slips when family won’t listen. We’re happy to have found our little community and just take each day. 💙 What piece of advice would you give to parents who just discovered their child has allergies? My advice would be talk to others, other parents who have done it before and going through it now. They have hands on experience and that’s key. Doctors and dietitians can tell you what they’ve left but ‘real’ allergy parents have lived through every symptom, every reaction, every sleepless night. It helps you feel you’re not alone and so amazing to have someone know what you’re going through that can honestly sympathize. 💙 Read on below: 👇

If you're constipated, cut the cheese. 🧀 Typical symptoms of dairy intolerance in children have been diarrhea, abdominal bloating, flatulence, wheezing, a runny nose and more frequent ear infections. Recently however, studies have also shown a correlation between dairy consumption and constipation In study groups, those who were on laxatives vs those who were OFF dairy products, constipation eased most for those who cut out dairy completely If you consume dairy and have noticed the above symptoms in yourself or your child, it may be time to try eliminating dairy. Changes can usually be noticable in 2 weeks or so, so don't give up too early Even plant-based cheese in it's processed high fatty form can cause upset for more sensitive stomachs, so as always, listen to your body and experiment with what it can handle. . Originally it was because of the lengthy menu of yummy  #vegetarian and  #vegan options (and the really lovely staff)- but since my last visit my appreciation has developed. . Bundobust does not serve food on solid plates as you’d expect in a restaurant. It’s all served on paper plates and in paper tubs and what seems like plastic cutlery. Curious about this, I spoke to a friendly member of staff and enquired about how ethical there system is. . The cutlery is NOT  #plastic, it is made from  #plantstarch.  #Plantstarchcutlery is made with 70%  #renewablematerials. Compared to traditional cutlery made from 100% virgin plastics, this cutlery is a more  #sustainablechoice . . The plates/tubs are made from a fibre of  #sugarcane. Sugarcane Plates are a strong, grease and cut resistant alternative to traditional plastic or polystyrene. Sugarcane fiber products are BPI certified compostable and made from a 100% reclaimed and  #renewablematerial. . Once the products have been used, they are all sent to a factory to  #decompose or to be  #recycled and used again. Nothing is wasted. Not even the gases created in the process of recycling as these gases are used as reusable energy. . I was so happy to hear all of this from such a well educated and knowledgeable member of staff. I think it’s very easy to eat out somewhere and to not think about what steps that organisation is making as a company to reduce their carbon footprint and to become more sustainable, so why not ask a member of staff next tome you are out?"

A day of flooding and a little boy full of sniffles calls for some baking! ⠀ Guilt free baking may I add. ⠀ These biscuits are GF DF and refined sugar free 💛. ⠀ Not calorie free though 😂 remember that.⠀ ⠀ 🍪Raisin and cinnamon biscuits🍪⠀ ⠀ 👉👉Ingredients ⠀ 🔸250g ground Almonds⠀ 🔸1 tsp bicarbonate Soda⠀ 🔸2tsp ground Cinnamon⠀ 🔸4 1/2 tbsp Coconut oil⠀ 🔸2 tsp vanilla extract⠀ 🔸2 tbsp honey⠀ 🔸50g raisins⠀ 🔸a pinch of Sea salt⠀ ⠀ Method⠀ ⠀ 🔺Preheat the oven to 180 degrees celsius/ gas mark 6⠀ 🔺In a food processor, combine all the ingredients apart from the raisins. We have been dairy free for the last 6 months when we learned Kinsley had a dairy intolerance at 2 months. We have been testing dairy in my frozen milk the last 3 days and so far so good! If she continues to tolerate it for the next 2 days we will be celebrating with real pizza this weekend! 🍕

I gave up dairy (for the most part) nearly two years ago, and, luckily, it wasn’t nearly as difficult as I expected it to be. I do really miss cheese (especially on pizza), but overall I usually can find substitutes for many dairy products I enjoy. • However, egg nog was a challenge. And I LOVE egg nog at Christmas, so every non-dairy one I tried last season was a disappointment. • But good news! The search is over friends! This holiday nog by @so_delicious is sooo good! Shhh...it's a baker's secret! Make crispy on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside cookies with whole goat milk powder. It's as easy as the recipe below! . We are also proud to be #nongmoverified and #glyphosateresiduefree. It's just one of the many ways Green Goat is making baking better. Chocolate Chip Milk Cookies 1/2 pound unsalted butter, melted 3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed 1/2 cup granulated sugar 2 eggs 2 tsp vanilla extract 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour 2 1/2 tbsp Green Goat whole goat milk powder 1 1/4 tsp kosher salt 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/4 baking soda 12 ounces semisweet chocolate chips or carob chips Preheat oven to 375 degrees F. . Mix the sugars and melted butter together in a large bowl with a wooden spoon. Mix well. . Add the eggs and vanilla. Mix until glossy. . Add the flour, Green Goat, salt, baking powder, and baking soda and combine. Add your chocolate chips or carob chips and mix. . Make golf ball sized balls and place on cookie sheet lined with parchment paper 2 inches apart. . Bake for 9 mins. Allow to cool completely. Pro tip: after combining your chocolate chips, allow your cookie dough to chill in the refrigerator for 30 minutes (or overnight) before rolling into balls and baking. This adds a beautiful structure to the final result! You can also use this technique before cutting the dough into shapes with cookie cutters - it gives you clean edges!

In addition to going gluten free after a celiac diagnosis, it is recommended to go DAIRY FREE temporarily as well! Who knew?! 🤯 ⠀⠀ When my son was first diagnosed with celiac, I did not understand why people said to stop giving him dairy for 6-12 months. So I ignored the advice. 🙊 As if going gluten free wasn’t already hard enough?! 🤷‍♀️⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ BUT I REGRET IT TO THIS DAY!!!! Now I get WHY they said it: ⠀ ⠀ Our small intestine’s lining has millions of small finger-like structures (microvilli) that are damaged if someone with celiac ingests gluten. There are enzymes (lactase) on the tips of the microvilli that are responsible for absorbing milk sugar (lactose). ⠀ ⠀ ...If the microvilli are damaged by gluten, the enzymes won’t be able to appropriately absorb dairy products. Until the microvilli can heal again, the enzymes are temporarily unable to do their job—which can lead to symptoms of lactose intolerance (bloating, gas, loose stool or constipation, brain fog, etc.)! 😱 ⠀⠀ Once your gut is healed (6-18 months), consult with your doctor to slowly reintroduce dairy. One of the key benefits of doing the 30 days to healthy living program is finding out if you have any food sensitivities. A lot of people are sensitive to different foods, but don’t realize it until they stop eating those foods for a whole 30 days, and slowly reintroducing them back into their daily life. ⁣ ⁣ I have always thought I had a little intolerance to dairy, but always ignored it because I didn’t want to give up the cheesy pizza or cream in my coffee; and I was too lazy to find other dairy options. ⁣ ⁣ During the 30 DTHL, I was so good about not eating gluten/dairy (as much as possible). Now having the 30 days being completed and I’m reintroducing dairy back into my routine, I realize i 100% have a sensitivity to dairy. ⁣ ⁣ Finding what foods/ingredients you’re sensitive too and cutting those out of your daily lifestyle, is truly the KEY to looking & FEELING your absolute best.

We had a beautiful meal @thebullandclaw in Newtownards 🍴 This was our first time visiting The Bull & Claw in Newtownards and the decor is gorgeous and the food was incredible 👌🏼 To start we had the crab croquettes and a pork bon bon special. For our mains, we had Portavogie scampi & chips and the salt & chilli chicken. All of the food was so delicious! It was really hard to choose what we wanted as there were so many options that we could have chose.
