Tonight was pretty interesting only for the fact that @torresthetank challenged me to do these 150 lbs farmer walks up and back and I was pretty fatigued as it was since I was already doing my own workout. I accepted and conquered it! One thing to keep in mind is if you limit yourself, you’ll never know how far you’ll get. A couple weeks back I could barely do 130 lbs ea hand. This seemed a bit easier, but still a struggle. Oh and we added the deadlifts at the end for fun 😅 . I didn't get much sleep last night and I did not want to go to the gym this morning. I was planning on going pretty light on legs this week in prep for Saturdays @spartan race, so I'm not overly disappointed with the lack of sets. Im tired so I'm going to get right into the videos: Video 1 is on deadlifts. 15x225 at 1.4x speed. This was the only real set of deadlifts I did today. I was pretty fatigued after this set with the tiredness. Next set was of only 5 then I moved on to calves. Video 2 is on pause squats. 15x135 at 1.4x speed. I take the bar almost to stops but don't hit them and try to hold a second pause before going back up. This definitely burns! Video 3 is on seated calf raises. 15x165. I coupled these with single leg bodyweight calf extension on the stairs. Video 4 is on TRX rear delt flys. I had to do something with the TRX today! Video 5 & 6 are on shoulder raises. I tried to focus more on rep control with these today. Man I look tired lol. Happy 🐫 day everyone! 4 Back Workouts for Mass By @musclemonsters _ 1. Rack Pull _ The rack pull is essentially a deadlift variation that allows you to (1) limit the range of motion (thus allowing you to use a greater load) and (2) remove leg drive, forcing you to place more emphasis on the portion of the lift that targets the back. It’s not uncommon to see guys pulling 2x more weight on the rack pull than they could on the deadlift—not only placing more stress on the mid/upper-back, but now your traps have to fight twice as hard to keep your arms from ripping clean off your torso like Jax’s fatality on Moral Kombat II. _ 2. Pendlay Rows _ The Pendlay row is a little-known, yet extremely powerful, barbell row variation. Rather than moving the barbell through space, you’re pulling the bar off of the ground from a dead stop (similar to a deadlift). Because you’re resetting at the bottom of every rep, you’re eliminating momentum and thus forcing the target muscles to do the work. _ Now although the strict nature of this lift will limit the amount of weight you’re using, because you’re using more muscle and less momentum, you end up doing less total work for far greater results. Think of it as digging for gold with a spoon vs using a shovel. You may be able to get 10 scoops of dirt with a spoon faster than you could get 1 scoop with a shovel, but which scoop makes a bigger impact? _ 3. Seal Rows _ First, they your lower back almost completely out of the equation. This allows you to place all of your focus on achieving maximum activation of the target muscles, and it’s also a great way to reduce lower back fatigue. Second, they remove your ability to use momentum or "cheat". _ 4. Some deadlifts from the other day feeling pretty smooth. 315lb tends to be my indicator set for the day, letting me know how things are moving overall; if I'm slow and fatigued or feeling tight and solid. From there, it was on to 345lb and 365lb for comfortable top set single. When I max tested in August, I missed 385lb, but got 375lb confidently. With 365lb moving this well, I'm gunning for that 405lb DL in the near future. For someone who has always been a Sumo lifter, just being this comfortable with conventional is a big win. . Deadlifts are not my jam. However tonight I did wayyyy better than I anticipated...... ________________________________________________ 3 x 70% 180lb 3x 80% 205lb Max effort at 90% 230lb for 7! (Video) ________________________________________________ Honestly I kind of hate deads, I’m not very good at them, I don’t do them enough, and it’s all around a big mental block for me. Compared to the rest of my lifts too my deadlift should be much heavier. We’re doing a strength cycle with these for the next month and I think my increased squatting and posterior chain work is helping these be better. I need to suck it up and work on these because it is such a beneficial movement. Operation get a stronger booty and hammies is in effect! Especially with ski season around the corner!

Here's a back day for yuh that didn't go anywhere near what I wanted. All my weights were down, I failed in this video to get what I wanted. That's alright tho, we have good days and bad days and that goes for the gym too. Doesn't mean you don't give it your all. Did the ladder inspired by Jen Thompson today for deads. Woo wee. Starts out ok with deficit low numbers but as you work up...wowszers. This set I didn’t keep my arms long. Too much movement in shoulders at top. Waste of energy. This is pared down from Thompson’s 53-rep session ladder to these 27 based on a 1-rep 215 #: 4x35%, 4x50% 3x55%, 3x60% 2x65%, 2x70% 2x75%, 2x80%, 2x85% 1x90%, 1x95%, 1x100% That last pull was earned. I asked on my story earlier what is the biggest excuse that keeps you from getting your workout in? (I’m sorry I tried to reply to everyone individually but my gram won’t let me! 😫 can someone tell me why my account hates me? It won’t let me put music on my stories either lol) ⁣ ⁣ ANYWAY.... ⁣ ⁣ A common response I saw was “too tired after work” or “too late after work” with “kids” coming in close behind. ⁣ ⁣ I did the typical 9-5 office job for two years (that was usually more hours than just 9-5). I had to force myself to workout in the morning because there was a 99% chance I wasn’t getting my workout in if I waited until after work. Too many things can happen during the day to steer us into easily saying “screw it.. I’ll workout tomorrow.” But I wanted to live a healthy lifestyle bad enough that I set that alarm for 4:30am every day. Was it hard at first? Heck yeah. But after awhile, it became a habit.. my routine.. and I started to love those morning hours before the world was awake and getting to see the sunrise as I left the gym each day. It’s not always easy... but it’s worth it. If you want it bad enough, you will make it happen. You just have to establish your “why” and remind yourself of it every day, even on the days when that alarm goes off and you want to hit snooze so bad. I can tell you, you will never regret getting up and getting it done ✅ ⁣ ⁣ Now okay, I can’t address the “kids” from experience, so forgive me! But always remember what little eyes and ears are watching you. They deserve a good example showing them how important living a healthy lifestyle is. I promise you aren’t a bad parent for taking that ONE hour to yourself. In fact, you will be more energetic to chase them around and play with them during the day 🙃 at Horseshoe Bend

Many people know that I hurt my back weeks ago and I could barely hit 405 pounds for 1 dumb rep. Today I finally worked myself back up to repping 405 pounds. One thing I’ve learned through powerlifting is never get discouraged when you have a set back such as an injury or a plateau in strength.
