This breakfast 😍 If a year ago, someone had told me that I would be so excited about Canada’s new food guide, I would’ve probably said they are crazy. However, I am more than excited today. Dairy is finally not a food group anymore. Beans, lentils, chickpeas, whole grains, fruits and vegetables are dominating the guide. Way to go Canada! I am more confident than ever that my kids wont be teased one day for being vegan, like I am today :) And nobody will wonder where their protein and calcium come from, because our children will be taught from early on that mother earth has given us every single nutrient we may ever need to be healthy and thrive. On a cold day, a loaded sweet potato 🍠 hits the spot! . Sometimes I use my instant pot, but this time I just threw the sweet potatoes in the crock pot and they were ready when I came home from work. . I topped it with Madras Lentils from @tastybite that I buy from Costco in bulk. I think they taste like chili, and only need 60 seconds in the microwave! I picked up my camera early last week, after a couple weeks’ break from shooting, and I felt all thumbs as I fiddled with the controls to dial in the exposure. And where was the self-timer option in the camera menu anyways?! . . Perhaps it’s true what the pros say, that one must shoot every day, as the “eye” of the photographer is like a muscle that gets gradually better with practice. I think it is simply like any other relationship you want to nurture. It takes presence, time, and the simple act of showing up every day. . . It is not yet too late (it never is, I believe) to commit to showing up daily, or at least to try for a while. February is a short month, I wonder if I could commit to shooting something daily. Kick fear and excuses to the curb and just show up. . . Contudo, eu não sinto, nem penso, que as minhas papilas gustativas sejam mais importantes que a vida de um animal 🐣🐓🥚 E foi por isso que eu mudei a minha dieta e estou sempre a procurar e a experimentar receitas para que se pareçam com algo que um omnívoro comeria. E não vejo mal nenhum nisso nem me faz querer ou sentir saudades de comer produtos de origem animal 🌱🌈🐷🐮🐰 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ porção: 2 pessoas ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ingredientes: - 64 g farinha de grão-de-bico - 2 c sopa levedura nutricional - 1 c sopa goma xantana (ou fermento em pó) - 1 c sopa tamari (ou molho de soja) - 1 c chá mostarda - 150 ml água - 1 c chá pimenta preta, sal dos himalaias e açafrão - paprika e orégãos q.b. - 160 g mistura de vegetais asiáticos, salteados (@celeiro_viverdecorpoealma) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ como preparar: Numa taça, misturar os ingredientes para a massa de grão-de-bico. Se achares que está muito espessa, acrescenta uma colher de sopa de água de cada vez. Numa frigideira, saltear a mistura de vegetais. Retirar do lume e reservar. Na mesma frigideira, acrescentar um pouco de água e metade da massa. Cozinhar até algumas bolhas começarem a aparecer e as extremidades estarem firmes. Gentilmente, virar ao contrário para cozinhar do outro lado. Colocar metade da mistura de vegetais numa metade da ‘aum’elete e dobrar a outra metade. Guarnecer com orégãos e servir com salada, pesto e tomate cortado.

A treat is a treat. 🍫 ☕️ On this crazy cold day my babies asked for hot chocolate. Cocoa & legos after homework is done? You’ve got it!! I enjoyed my superfoods at the same time🙌 Do I drink hot chocolate? Of course I do! I particularly like my hot chocolate with peppermint or extra cinnamon (Mexican hot chocolate 😋) Almond milk makes it extra creamy! Today I opted for my shake. I intake superfoods daily for many reasons: ❤️balancing my gut with probiotics AND prebiotics ❤️guaranteeing I get in breakfast (proper refueling after my early morning workout!) ❤️a purposeful snack ❤️ regulating stress (yep, there are adaptogens in there!.... don’t know what adaptogens are?? This time last year, I was doing social media strategy for a global beauty brand. 💄 My desk was situated by a large window on the 19th floor of an office building in midtown, Manhattan. 🏙 I remember looking out that window on days when I felt particularly stressed and still feeling a huge sense of gratitude to be in this great big city. 💙Now, building my brand is my job. My office changes daily. Sometimes I’m meeting clients at a coffee shop ☕️. Somedays I’m furiously answering emails at my brightly lit kitchen table. And days like today, I’m cozied up on the floor, snacking on a plate of fresh fruit and perfecting a playlist for a workout class I’m going to teach this Thursday. 🙌🏻 . • Life ebbs and flows... and even though I have found such great fulfillment from being my own boss, I wouldn’t have given up my time in the corporate world for anything. 💕 I learned so much over those six years and although the scenery has changed, my determination and hustle have remained the same. 💙. • My point? Enjoy the ride and appreciate your journey just as much as the destination. 🙌🏻 Keep learning, keep growing, and keep hustling. :: coming out of the vegan closet :: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ In episode 24 of my podcast “What’s the F***ing Point?” published today, I share with y’all why I haven’t talked much at all about being vegan here on this profile or on the podcast before — and why I’ve decided to change that. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It’s important to me to challenge some of the stereotypes out there, like the idea that vegans are all health nut orthorexics who don’t get any joy out of food. I’m an ANTI-DIET ethical vegan, and I enjoy Oreos, cashewmilk ice cream, Fritos, pizza, and and all kinds of other stuff along with my veggies, grains, etc. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ It's also very important to me that anyone reading this or listening to the episode knows that I am not sitting over here on a moral high horse judging you. (Anyone remember that episode of The Simpsons with the self-righteous vegan? “I’m a level 5 vegan — I don’t eat anything that casts a shadow.” 😂) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ There is plenty I do on a regular basis that could be "judgeworthy," but I certainly hope that others give me grace for the things I am still learning and working on. my vegan milkshakes bring all the health freaks to the yard... sorry that was so lame but how could i not? 🤷🏻‍♀️ i’ve recently discovered that you can make creamy healthy ice cream out of frozen bananas and i’m honestly pretty upset that no one told me this earlier in life. i made these chocolate shakes out of frozen bananas, cashew butter, cacao powder, and maple syrup in my @vitamix but any high speed blender or food processor should do the trick. i topped with chopped up cashews, a homemade “chocolate” sauce (maple syrup + cacao powder), and cacao nibs. the consistency was seriously the same as soft serve, so rich and creamy. 😍 #poweredbyplants #realfood #kissingglutengoodbye at Arizona

Ok, I’ve tried to cook with tofu before and it was just gross. It was kind of gooey 🤢 I know it can be done though! I have a friend who makes this A-MAZ-ING chorizo burrito using tofu. Tomorrow I’m going to try it again! I’m going to make it my meat substitute in a spaghetti dish 😱 Really my biggest obstacles are my children. I want them to know there are other options besides meat. I’ve been doing some research and I know to buy firm or extra firm, freeze it, and press the water out of it. This vegan cheesy polenta is as delicious as it is homey 🤗. Perfect for cold and dreary rainy days (such as today) it takes 10 minutes to make and will warm you from the inside out and infuse you with a general sense of coziness and well-being. Seriously awesome! Details: I combined 1 tbsp vegan butter, 1.5 cups water and 2 cups vegetable broth in a pot and brought to a boil. Then I added 1.3 cups @bobsredmill polenta, 1/2 tsp onion powder, 1/2 tsp garlic powder, salt and pepper and lowered the heat to simmer. I stirred the polenta using a whisk for about 5 minutes until most of the liquid was absorbed and the polenta looked fluffy. Took off heat, added 2 tbsp @nowfoodsofficial nutritional yeast and whisked to combine. Served garnished with chives. 😋

(only at the herald square location I believe) - - It’s amazing that more chain restaurants are adding plant-based options to show that being vegan is not inconvenient at all! I understand the controversy of not supporting mass market meat suppliers, but change is gradual! By having a vegan option on a fast food menu, you are giving omnivore customers the opportunity to choose something new and therefore lowering the sales for beef or chicken. Businesses are powered by money. If they see a shift in sales going to plant based options they will continue to supply it. just think of all the animals we will save if even 10% of omnivore customers try out an impossible burrito instead of a beef burrito even for just one lunch! We have loved the support of oils with growing pains. It’s like teething — you know it hurts but there isn’t a ton you can do. This is super simple to make! . 10 drops Panaway 10 drops Valor 10 drops Peppermint 10 drops Lemongrass 10 drops Copaiba 1/2 cup of cold-pressed coconut oil 4 oz glass jar . Blend essential oils with coconut oil with a fork or electric mixer. Works wonderfully after a warm bath! Apply as needed to ease discomfort.

PLANT BASED: 🍃 Canada had their first unveiling of Canada’s Food Guide today and one of the recommendations is including more plant based proteins. Studies consistently show that plant based proteins from soy can help reduce your LDL cholesterol, which can decrease your risk of cardiovascular disease. Replacing your regular beef or chicken with tofu is an easy way to incorporate more plant based proteins. Not to mention, tofu cooks a lot faster than meat! (And less worry about food safety) Other than tofu, I’ve also added quinoa and peas, for a total of three sources of plant based protein! . . . Ingredients: 1 firm block of tofu, cut into squares 3 leaves of gai lan, chopped 1/2 red bell pepper, chopped 1/2 cup green peas 1/2 cup cooked quinoa Spices: onion powder, garlic powder, chinese Chili sauce 1/2 tbsp soy sauce Method: -with a little bit of olive oil, pan fry tofu over medium heat until sides are golden brown -add gai lan and red pepper until soft -add green peas from frozen, and cook until warmed through -add quinoa, spices, and mix thoroughly at Toronto, Ontario
