πŸ’₯πŸ’₯Previously in Eileen’s training she has struggled hitting depth in her heavier sets and singles, we have been working on this by combining low box squats with pause squats. This way we can mimic the feeling of where she should be hitting depth in her normal working sets. What a day! I took part in a Charity Challenge to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. During the course of the day we lifted a total of 1 million kilograms in the form of deadlifts and ran 20km individually to cover a total distance of approximately 874km!!! It was so much fun and it made me realise how fortunate I am to be surrounded by such amazing people, who inspire me and help me grow, not just today but on a day to day basis❀️ P.s. Check out @kasia_cavefit and I smashing out deadlifts @ 100kg near the end!

Experimenting with a few new sledgehammer exercises this week. A great way to finish off a session while still working on grip strength, mobility and stability. The hammer itself is only about 4.5kg but the lever length means that it is a real challenge to keep control of it while at the same time keeping the exercise flowing smoothly. They can both easily be regressed by simply shifting your grip closer to the head of the hanmer. The think the first exercise is from Functional Patterns originally and the second from Jon Haas. at Energy Gym

πŸ’₯❗️Technique Tuesdays❗️πŸ’₯πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ»πŸ‘‡πŸ» On this Technique Tuesday I want to chat about β€˜Scapular Retraction’ one of the most under used technique points in any upper body exercise. Your scapula are your shoulder blades, you have two of them and they should work in a syncronised fashion when used in a bi-lateral exercise (both arms used). You want your shoulder blades to be retracted before initiating any pull AND push exercise. When your shoulders are in β€˜scapula retraction’ they are essentially held in place by the musculatur of the back (lats predominantly). This places the stress of the movement in the back muscles, which means that your body is in a stronger position to handle the load than if it were not in β€˜retraction’. When you keep your shoulders β€˜loose’ before you push or pull in any movement, there is a bigger chance of your delts and traps taking over in the movement, which results in an inefficient movement pattern. This can also result in shoulder pain and impingement. Not only will you have a stronger back (bigger muscles being used equals faster strength gains too) you will also benefit from better posture and an overall better looking lift. Suns out and so are the freckles πŸ™‚ Today was the first day in soooo long that I didn’t put a single thing on my face, totally make up free! I’ve been lucky that I’ve never suffered from really bad skin but I still feel that when bare faced I generally just look a bit worn out and tired. Make up is 100% my comfort zone and it genuinely makes me feel better about myself! I don’t think thats necessarily a bad thing but I think we could all be a little more accepting of ourselves in our most natural form. We can use all the make up, Instagram filters, good angles and contouring but at the end of the day we’re just us πŸ€·πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ It felt good today to embrace the natural look, catch some rays, coax out the freckles and it feels surprisingly liberating posting a filter free photo πŸ“Έ #nofilter #barefaced #aunaturale #embraceyourself

When in the pursuit of strength, there comes a time that you start to wonder whether alternative bar placements, or stance widths etc (conventional vs sumo story for another post) will enhance your lifts. Simple answer is, possibly yes. A lot of lifters tend to convert to β€˜Low Bar’ in order to power more weight up out of the β€˜hole’ of the squat. - . . In the 2 videos shown here, you’ll see that Emma has trouble keeping upright on the ascent if her squat in her β€˜High Bar’ positioning (Vid 1). This throws her bar path off, and makes it harder to come up from the rep. - . . In the second clip (swipe πŸ‘‰πŸ») you’ll see how Emma takes pretty well to β€˜Low Bar’ because she is a hip dominant squatter. As a result of the bar sitting slightly lower, she’s able to use that hip and back power to drive the bar up smoother than the clip before. Therefore making the rep easier and the weight more manageable πŸ’ͺ🏻- . . Now, by no means would I take High bar squats out of her programme conpletely, because it will still pay off massively working on weaker points and staying more upright πŸ‘ŒπŸ»- . .
