Finally done with Dorrit. After reading an almost 1,000 page Victorian novel I'm spending time in the old west. Elmore Leonard. Gunsights.

I recently watched #JackieBrown and decided to dig into the source material, #elmoreleonard’s 1992 novel #RumPunch. I was surprised to discover that Tarantino changed the lead character’s name to Jackie Brown from Jackie Burke. With this in mind, i thought it would be interesting to do an alternate reality #movieposter / #bookcover with Jackie Burke, who is white, and here played by #deborahkaraunger. Why Deborah? Because she looks tough and she was known for late 90s noir films. OrdellRobbie is #mosdef, who actually did play Ordell in 2013’s #lifeofcrime.. #graphicdesign #art #collage

Quick dialogue sets the pace. Quirky characters bring the energy. The lead guy, Chili Palmer holds it all together. Loving the tv remake with Chris O’Dowd. #getshorty #chrisodowd #hollywood #elmoreleonard #bookstagram #books #readersofinstagram #readers #writers #writersofinstagram #america #crime

One of the questions I get asked most frequently is whether going to grad school for film and interning and working in the industry has ruined my appreciation of movies. This is a double-edged sword for me - a lot of things I used to like or enjoy are now reprehensible garbage emitting a stench so profound I want to drink a glass of bleach to escape them (and escape that I ever liked them). On the other hand, the movies I love I love so much more and in so many more ways, and the types of movies I love and appreciate is much broader. . . So this brings me to Out of Sight. I saw this in theaters when I was 15 and loved it. I watched a bunch of times between then and maybe 22, then didn't watch it again for 10 years. I revisited it in film school and since, and am more and more convinced its a perfect movie (relative to what it is, because duh). Everything about it works, and its existence is a miracle. George Clooney fits his role like a glove (he's basically a more blue collar version of Danny Ocean), Ving Rhames is perfect as his moral compas, and Don Cheadle gives one of his best performances as the villain. And then we have Jennifer Lopez, who seems like she was born to play this role. Also, the material and Soderberg so perfectly blend you can't tell where one ends and the other begins. . . This movie is one of my favorite crime films, one of my favorite romances, one of my favorite comedies, and my favorite Elmore Leonard adaptation. I fall in love with it again every time I see it. . . #outofsight #jenniferlopez #stevensoderberg #georgeclooney #vingrhames #doncheadle #elmoreleonard #romance #romantic #crimemovie #thriller #comedy #90scomedy #90smovie #favoritemovie #filmstudies #filmindustry #oceans11 #90saesthetic #screenwriter #movieanalysis #movierecommendation #moviereview #greatmovie #underrated #cinephile #cinephilecommunity #terribleinfant #willterrible

How do I even talk about Elmore Leonard? In short he was the most prolific American crime and thriller writer until his death in 2011. He published a book every other year almost without fail for fifty plus years and wrote numerous screenplays, short stories, and made for TV movies. He remains a name in American crime fiction and is known for his snappy writing, fantastic quick dialogue and whiplash plots. -  Most of his books are about sleazy ex-cops who you know aren't gonna make it out alive, corrupt police officers being murdered, women killing the men who hurt them (in really entertaining ways) and regular men getting caught in traps they shouldn't have gotten themselves into. He wrote books that entertain you, that feel like you're watching a movie,  and that aren't ever gonna make you feel sad or distraught. - I love his stories and I love his characters. Even more, his writing is amazing- he skips all the parts readers skip. You aren't going to suffer through flowery descriptions or purple prose. You're basically reading a glorified movie script. And I love every page of it. - #Elmoreleonard #elmoreleonardbooks #crimefiction #thrillerfiction #jackiebrown #prontoelmoreleonard #pulpfictionbooks #pulpplots #pulpbooks  #booksarelife #bookcommunity #bookpassion #bookrecommendation #bookreview #greatreads #bookobsessed #bookflatlay #bookreviewer #alwaysreading #bibliophile #bookcollection #readingupdate #bookupdate #booktube #lgbtqbook #kindleunlimited #readingislife #readforfun #bookishlife #toberead

OUATIH Spoiler warning!:....A couple months ago I suggested the fate of Cliff's wife, Billie Booth, may have been similar to Marvin's fate in "Pulp Fiction," aka an accident. (Video a few rows down.) We do hear the wave crash as Cliff has the harpoon pointed at her, just like Jules hits a "bump" in the road when Vincent has a gun pointed at Marvin. But there is also a similarity in her nagging to that of Melanie in "Jackie Brown" when she is berating Lou-issssssss. Maybe Cliff warned Billie not to say one more word and she said "OK, Cliff."🤣💁🏼‍♀️ . . . Taran-trivia: As mentioned in the "Marvin" video earlier, Brad Pitt and Rebecca Gayheart both know what really went down on that boat as they filmed more segments for it. It's not really supposed to be that big of a mystery, I'm sure. We know how Cliff gets when pressed as we see in the end. Considering that Quentin listed "Bob, and Carole, and Ted, and Alice", starring Natalie Wood, as one of the films to watch before OUATIH, I think he definitely had her in mind here. Billie even mentions a sister named "Natalie." In many ways, if the film was a tribute to Sharon Tate, he also gave a reminder of another fallen actor here whose death was shrouded in mystery, a mystery that indeed involved Tarantino co-hort #ChristopherWalken ("True Romance, Pulp Fiction"). Gayheart also co-starred with Woods' daughter, Natasha Gregson Wagner, in the 90s slasher film, #UrbanLegend. . . . #tarantinoisms #quentintarantino #pulpfiction #killbill #jackiebrown #deathproof #reservoirdogs #inglouriousbasterds #djangounchained #thehatefuleight #onceuponatimeinhollywood #films #movies #tbt #thursday #throwbackthursday #moviesoundtrack #bridgetfonda #robertdeniro #louisgara #melanieralston #bradpitt #cliffbooth #rebeccagayheart #billiebooth #elmoreleonard

#ReleasedOnThisDay 11 years ago: "Killshot" (2008), thriller, based on Elmore Leonard's 1989 novel of the same name, that follows a couple who, despite being in a Witness Protection Program, are being chased and confronted by the criminal they outed. Starring Diane Lane, Thomas Jane, Mickey Rourke and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Directed by John Madden ("Shakespeare in Love", "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", "Miss Sloane"). #mooveeblog #thisdayincinema #filmfacts #film #movie #themovies #cinema #hollywood #thisdayinhistory #history #filmgeek #killshot #dianelane #thomasjane #mickeyrourke #josephgordonlevitt #johnmadden #elmoreleonard #2008 #Nov13

Who here reads Westerns? I’ve never really explored the genre, but I have picked up a few examples over the years, based solely on the fact that I already liked the author. Here we have examples from Clifton Adams, (who I know through his crime/noir fiction), Edgar Rice Burroughs (whose Tarzan, Mars, and Venus adventures fueled my youth), and Elmore Leonard (one of the finest crime writers and dialogue writers we’ve had). #westernwednesday
