#libro #libri #leggere #libridaleggere #librichepassione #leggerechepassione #bookstagram #booklovers #booksofinstagram #bookadvisor #recensionilibri #recensionivelocidilibri #consiglidilettura #ioleggo #englishliterature #letteraturainglese

~ Opinioni impopolari #8 📖. .

#qotd are there many books that end up on your dnf pile? // this one for me just wasn’t doing it. I’ve spent far too long trying to pick it up, but there is something definitely holding me back from carrying on this book. I think it’s the fact that i just really don’t feel engaged with the story and I really don’t care about the characters. Maybe I’ll pick it up again when I’m on holiday and I need an easy read. #Bookaesthetic #aesthetics #bookish #bibliophile #booknerd #bookblog #englishliterature #readerofinstagram #bookcollector #bookworm #booksofinstagram #bookstagram #bookstagramer #dnf #themanwhodidntcall

✿ೃ ▎↳ ❛Tess of the d’Urbervilles❜, 2008, x Hardy’s first description of Alec in the novel. 🌟 I said I really wanted to do Alec Stoke-d’Urberville so here it is! Film versions never get it right. Hardy’s character descriptions are so important— Here he describes a villain from Victorian melodrama. If you didn’t read the novel and knew nothing of the plot but read this, a Victorian readership would instantly recognise a villain They didn’t make Alec evil enough in this version in my personal opinion, they tried to give him a sob story in a way & I was like STOP THAT ⠀ 「 #PeriodDrama #TessOfTheDUrbervilles #ThomasHardy #AlecDUrberville #HansMatheson #TessDurbeyfield #GemmaArterton #EddieRedmayne #Victorian #Film #EnglishLiterature #Costume

"The fallen angel becomes a malignant devil. Yet even that enemy of God and man had friends and associates in his desolation; I am alone." ― Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Frankenstein 🥀 Frankenstein is a few years too early to count towards my Victober reads... but I think it is a very fitting book for the month of October, regardless! I started reading Frankenstein once when I was in middle school, but I never finished it. So glad I changed that this October. I loved the Romantic era descriptions of landscapes (total Romantic era junkie here, whether that's literature, art, music, etc) and the ideas of solitude, what actually constitutes a monster, and compassion really got me.

O then the Baron forgot his age, His noble heart swelled high with rage; He swore by the wounds in Jesu's side He would proclaim it far and wide, With trump and solemn heraldry, That they, who thus had wronged the dame, Were base as spotted infamy! 'And if they dare deny the same, My herald shall appoint a week, And let the recreant traitors seek My tourney court—that there and then I may dislodge their reptile souls From the bodies and forms of men!' The coffee and the student… I must tell you that every day I like @changegre (my uni’s cafe) more and more. It’s so cosy and nice, I get an instant mood boost when I walk in. And then the coffee… Oh, coffee! It is the perfect combination of taste and strength. That’s all for today, more coffee stories are to come because… you know… coffee and literature are made for each other. Hey! #treasuretuesday is back this week! Sorry for letting it passed the previous week but it was crazy! This week’s treasure has to be a Dickensian one, I have so many I want to share with you. This one has been a gift from my little sis, she brought it from Edinburgh a couple years ago. Later on, I’ll you another one she gave me related to Dickens sense of humour which is hilarious! This book is really helpful to understand many of the cross references of the novels and to understand certain terms that are currently outdated and might not be easy to find. The illustrations at the back are lovely and I always enjoy seeing the real spots where Dickens based his characters or the imaginary ones illustrated following his exact direction so that they conveyed perfectly what he had in mind when describing them. I’ll keep on tagging most of my friends so you share your treasures too. I wanted to mention @literarygem who has been wonderful every week as to share her outstanding and gorgeous books. ‘Let no one ever, from henceforth say one word in any way countenancing war. It is dangerous even to speak of how here and there the individual may gain some hardship of soul by it. For war is hell, and those who institute it are criminals.’ — Siegfried Sassoon. ⁣ ⁣ I’m so glad Autumn is here in all its glory, but it brings assignment stress and deadlines with it. The two essays I’m most focused on at the moment both deal with war: the idealistic politics surrounding the Spanish civil war and complicated masculinity and anti-nationalism in WW1, which I’m considering as a research topic. War is a fascinating time for literature as it brings out radical feelings surrounding the individual self vs the collective, as well as fundamental questions of the meaning of life, death and martyrdom.

“And their love scene drew out, having the inestimable gain of a new language. No tradition overawed the boys. No convention settled what was poetic, what absurd. They were concerned with a passion that few English minds have admitted, and so created untrammeled. Something of exquisite beauty arose in the minds of each at last, something unforgettable and eternal, but built of the humblest scraps of speech and from the simplest emotions.” . #Read #161 of 2019: MAURICE by E.M. Forster. Though written in the 1910s and revised at points throughout Forster’s life, this novel wasn’t published until 1971, after his death. A 1987 film adaptation, starring James Wilby, Hugh Grant, and Rupert Graves, received honors for acting, direction, and music at the 1987 Venice Film Festival, as well as an Academy Award nomination for costumes. . Set in England in the early 1900s, MAURICE is the coming-of-age story of Maurice Hall, an upper-middle class youth whose attraction to other men becomes apparent while at university. Forbidden romances, awakening desires, and equal doses of self-loathing and resiliency — all this and more awaits young Mr. Hall on his road to self-discovery. . Inspired to read this work after both seeing and reading Matthew Lopez’s THE INHERITANCE in London last fall.

Once a teacher asked, tell me about the most dangerous addiction. Every student starts yelling, some said cocaine, some said alcohol, there different voices like heroine, caffeine, sexual addiction and many other. Teacher told them about krokodil the most dangerous addictive drug, then suddenly a voice raised from the last bench of the class “no sir! Its people” the addiction of people is the most dangerous one, there was a pin drop silence in the class everyone turned around and look at his face. He got nervous about what he said than teacher asked him to describe what he said, he stood up walk towards the rostrum and asked his teacher to take a side and give him some space to start his lecture , everyone was shocked. He started with the words, “We met different people daily, few become friends and more than that, we start talking to them, share everything, but after few months we addicted to that person, we get disturbed if we don't talk to them, we get depressed when they ignore us, we involved in a great depression like without them we can't live, our day starts with them and ends on them, we just want them everywhere in our lives, and one thing in last, when we addicted of any drug we died once but when we addicted of a person we live daily, we die daily, that's more dangerous we need to work on this addiction”. He concluded his speech with these golden words. Few seconds silence and then a huge round of applause for him in the class, a backbencher with opened collar button, half tucked in shirt, dirty shoes and a proud smile on his face, give everyone a lesson which a teacher couldn't. Sometimes very ordinary people tells the most precious lesson of our life. 🥀 . . . . . . . . . . . #englishliterature #englishthoughts #broken #brokenheart #sadthoughts #thoughts #lovequotes #qoutes #bloggersofinstagram #vlogsquad #showsomelove #follow #like #share #comment #instafamilylove #insta #followforfollowback #likeforlikes #instagram #shoutout #showsomelove

#bookstagram #book #bookaddict #booklover #bookshelf #onmybookshelf #bookish #bookworm #northandsouth #elizabethgaskell #litterature #englishliterature #victorianlitterature #janeausten #prideandprejudice #northandsouthbbc
