STRENGTH VS. AEROBIC TRAINING—WHICH IS BEST FOR HEART HEALTH? . A survey of more than 4,000 had shown that strength training had a slighter better risk reduction in cardiovascular disease aerobic activities such as walking or cycling. . However… . "Both strength training and aerobic activity appeared to be heart healthy, even in small amounts, at the population level," says Dr. Maia P. Smith in an article for Medical News Today, who is an assistant professor in the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at St. George's University in Grenada. . Doing either type of exercise was linked to a of lowering cardiovascular risk factors by 30 to 70 percent. . Thus the key message is that both types are equally beneficial for heart health. . #Repost @babakowen ・・・ I'm sure you know about the importance of good posture. But what kind of exercises will actually help with that?⠀ //⠀ A lot of individuals battle with tension in the upper back and across the shoulders and the spine not being able to move freely is one of the reasons this happens.... Along with stress and sitting posture etc. ⠀ //⠀ The more the upper spine can move, and get into a normal position, the happier it will be. ⠀ //⠀ Last week I posted about two exercises that recommended for everyone to start doing to be able to kick start that process.. This is just another two that can be just as effective!⠀ //⠀ A little side note... Did you know that upper body posture can also slow down your recovery from knee pain? ⠀ //⠀ Weird Huh? If you wanna know more about how that can even be possible click on this link to check out a YouTube Clip I posted discussing upper body posture and it's effect on lower body control! ⠀ ⠀ Click this link to check it out now!! ⠀ ⠀ ➡️ ➡️ ➡️ ⠀https://youtu.be/XZDKrudUDRo .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ .⠀ #sportsmedicine #sportsphysio #sportsrehab #exercisescience #sportscience #shoulderpain #shoulderworkout #shoulderstrength #shoulderrehab #rotatorcuff #injuryprevention #shouldersurgery #correctiveexercise #functionalstrength #shoulderpain #movebetter #soreback #posture #stretching #flexibility #mobility #mobilityroutine #shouldermobility #spinemobility #spinehealth #healthyspine #healthymovements at Natomas Yoga Studio

Posture is an output of the Brain and reflexive in Nature. ⠀ ⠀ Driven by reflexes, the sensory systems of the brain control posture and movement. ⠀ ⠀ Those main three sensory systems are:⠀ ⠀ ✅ The eyes and visual system⠀ ⠀ ✅ The inner ear and Vestibular System⠀ ⠀ ✅ The proprioceptive System in the muscle, fascia, skin and joints. ⠀ ⠀ Guess which one of those systems receives the largest input? Yes you guessed it - 👀⠀ ⠀ The Limbic emotional centre in the brain then plays a role in our mostly unconscious reactions to the sensory data coming in. ⠀ ⠀ The Cerebellum modulates all that sensory input. ⠀ ⠀ ❇️ Does the brain perceive threat?⠀ ⠀ ❇️ Is this threat linked to a survival reflex?⠀ ⠀ ❇️ How long ago did this posture become the normal adaptive set position of the nervous system? ⠀ ⠀ ❇️ What are the hidden Limbic drivers that are keeping a posture locked in a certain position? ⠀ ⠀ These are all factors that need to be addressed when looking at posture and structure. ⠀ ⠀ It is not about finding the absolute ideal posture but rather, bringing conscious awareness to how we hold ourselves.⠀ ⠀ With a skilled practitioner of Functional or Applied Movement Neurology you can address imbalances in the Visual, Vestibular and Proprioceptive system. Clear out any excessive Limbic charges and work towards a healthier reflexive postural System.

All kidding aside, we get many questions about Hot Yoga, both risks and benefits. There are benefits to heat, especially in the process of healing an injury. Heat can be used to relax the body and increase circulation. It can also be used to block pain receptors in the nervous system, reducing noxious input for therapeutic heating. Obviously heat makes the body lose water and there is evidence that heat can improve the quality of the skin. Much of the research about heat therapy involves specific time intervals under controlled temperatures • • • • • There are also dangers with hot yoga. Remember that exercising in high heat is another stress to the body. If one decides to perform yoga in high heat, knowing that pain receptors can become inhibited, there is a greater risk of moving into protective ranges. It is important to intentionally limit joint ranges when in high heat, since we may not have the necessary indicators that we are damaging connective tissue. Ligaments are not designed to stretch and violating joint ranges can cause muscle weakness as the body attempts to protect itself. Muscles are not able to contract as efficiently when the body is prioritizing thermoregulation • • • • Exercising in a hot room can also throw off our body’s internal temperature, which can cause dehydration, and - in extreme cases - lead to heat exhaustion or heat stroke. It is important to hydrate before, during, and after a hot yoga class, making sure not to practice on an empty stomach. We always tell our students that the central nervous system will do whatever it can to keep us from harm. When we add a new stress to our practice, we may need to modify something else. Be smart • • • • #yogateachertraining #yogateacher #yogaintegratedscience #yogaeducation #yogafit #yogacertification #yogachallenge #hotyoga #yogaposes #yogaanatomy #yogaeverywhere #thermoregulation #yogaeducator #educateyourself #deepenyourpractice #flexibility #yogapose #exercisescience #yogatraining #yogatrainings #yogacourse #heatedyoga #registeredyogaschool #yoga4growth #muscletightness #muscleweakness #exercisephysiology #biomechanics #yogatherapy #yogascience at Yoga Integrated Science

Power Development for Sport⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Olympic lifts are a great tool to develop power for sport. But because of their technical difficulty, many athletes have a hard time performing the lifts correctly and end up producing little power at all. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ I’m a fan of Olympic lifts for sport - especially for athletes that need to produce power against an external body (ex. A wrestler or lineman in football). ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ But many other sports do not require this, and simply developing power in a vertical jump movement is the desired outcome. In these cases, variations of the Olympic lifts or loaded jumps may be more appropriate. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Loaded jumps or variations of the Olympic lifts are much easier to teach and learn and effective power exercises. ⁣⁣here are a few examples. ⁣⁣ #exercisescience

It’s okay to be BASIC AF. 😌💛 . . Anybody ever thought a workout was too easy for them?! I know I’m guilty! 🤷‍♀️ Forever trying to think of creative workouts that challenge me. Sometimes, I overdo it and have to take it back to the basics. . . Truth is there’s nothing wrong with keeping it simple! The basics are the foundation for any workout. Plus, all of the advanced and fancy routines we do sometimes have NOT been shown to be better than the simple ones. If you ever think you’re above the basics, try doing them until failure! 🤦‍♀️☠️ My point? Don’t be afraid to take it back to the basics! 😆 . . #sweatitout #sacrifices #glutegains #fitnessgirlsmotivation #workoutoftheday #fitnesstransformation #abworkout #bootybuilder #fitnessapparel #glutesworkout #allkindsofgains #flexibilitytraining #exercisemotivation #fitgirlsig #exerciseroutine #exercisescience #exercisedaily #healthylifestyle #getfitforsummer #womensbest #gymshark #cardiotraining #legdayeverday #gluteday #fit #getfitlikewhit2018 #wokeaf #ws at Nashville, Tennessee

Me and the dragon are done for the day because we’ve been going on a lot more walks 👟👟 . . . . When it comes to burning calories or energy, your body does this a numbers of ways. NEAT or Non-exercise Activity Thermogenesis is one of them. . . This is any form of activity that you do outside of a daily workout and a great way to increase your energy used. When your energy out is GREATER than your energy in it results in fat loss. . . So before thinking you have to cut calories or workout for hours to either lose weight or lose body fat, find ways to increase your energy, more than you are currently. . . Walk your dogs, take the stairs, don’t look for the front row parking spot, STAND at your desk at work. (This actually requires your body to use more energy) Don’t make it complicated. 😊 move more! . . . . . #movemore #burnmore #wednesdayworkout #fitness #increaseenergy #fitnessfacts #neat #burncalories #caloriesincaloriesout #caloriedeficit #calorieburn #walkitout #diettips #dietandexercise #exercisetips #exercisescience at Bishop Arts District

WEIGHTLIFTING WEDNESDAY . CLEAN-GRIP DEADLIFT . Pretty basic here, if you’re participating in the sport of Weightlifting or even doing it for hobby, bilateral overhand grip is the only grip you should use. . This will have the most translation / carry-over to what you do; alternate-grip will not. . I’ll go as far as to say if you do CrossFit or perform Deadlifts for general fitness, this should be the grip you utilize as the alternate-grip puts too much strain on the biceps. . Powerlifters, I would recommend using the Clean-Grip as well for the majority of your training only mixing in the alternate-grip at near maximal and maximal lifts as in this sport it is often used for anti-spin of the bar off of the floor. . At the end of the day however, if you enjoy the integrity and it’s original origin and insertion points of your biceps, you should perform your deadlifts with the Clean-grip!

@body_recomposition19

@Regran_ed from @helms3dmj - To avoid repeating mistakes of the past, you must know the past. You can’t “stand on the shoulders of giants” if your awareness of history only goes as far back as the creation of YouTube or Instagram. 100 years ago training for strength, aesthetics, health and power were one in the same. Before powerlifting became a sport the big 3 were called the “odd lifts” and were used to build muscle and as supplemental lifts by weightlifters/bodybuilders. John Grimek was arguably the greatest bodybuilder since Sandow and no one in the drug free era was unequivocally superior to him imo. However he could do a back flip, the splits, competed in the 1936 Olympics as a weightlifter and had one of the strongest OHPs in the US at one time. Contrast today, where the average weightlifter, bodybuilder, powerlifter, strongman/woman, or CrossFitter is unaware of the common practices of the other disciplines. Even novice and intermediate weightlifters squat, snatch, clean and jerk and/or front squat in almost every session, training 4-8x/wk. Yet many bodybuilders are afraid to train a muscle more than 1x/wk. Many weightlifters and powerlifters expect to lose strength cutting to make weight, due to nutrition misconceptions while bodybuilders routinely maintain or gain strength for the first half of a prep, losing more weight over a longer period. The H.J. Lutcher Stark Center for Physical Culture and Sports is a library, archive and museum located at UT Austin and it is dedicated to the study and preservation of the world of physical culture. There is nothing like it in the world and I think it’s truly a Mecca worth visiting for anyone who makes lifting a lifestyle. It’s huge, beautiful and so much has been documented, like the pictures here. It is free to visit and exists because of donations. I implore everyone to donate, and more importantly visit. #regrann #personaltrainers #bengaluru #exercisescience #ace #cscs #cpr #personaltrainerbangalore at Bangalore, India

SWIPE TO WATCH ME DEADLIFT 400 Lbs 👉🏻 | My fitness has changed a lot over the last few years. For personal, physical, and a multitude of reasons. For those who are new — I used to strictly strength train and was kind of strong 💪🏻 ⁣ . 3 years ago #TBT I WON my weight class and overall in a small local powerlifting meet. And well now as you know I casually started running ultra marathons 🤷🏼‍♀️🤪 ⁣ Videos:⁣ 1️⃣ 395 lb DL⁣ 2️⃣ 400 lb DL (did not rest enough between the 395 and this)⁣ 3️⃣ 295 lb SQ (305 was the highest I ever did)⁣ 4️⃣ 165 lb bench (175 was the highest I ever did)⁣ ⁣ ⁣ I just enjoy pushing my body and feeling it’s limits. ⁣ But most of all I need BOTH these versions of my self. To have iron remind me that I am strong and powerful and to run up mountains at the edge of mental grit — to show me how resilient I am and to feel sheer utter joy of being alive and moving in nature.⁣ ⁣ So yes. I could have kept training, lifting, competing, and been a damn better lifter than I am runner. But I didn’t want it — not for those reasons. And to get there I gave up a huge chunk of my athleticism that I loved. I don’t like to move in just 1 ways — and on the left I could only slog through a few miles before feeling heavy/slow. ⁣ (However, I know how to train my self WAY smarter now looking back) ⁣ It all comes down to specificity. You must do X to be good at X. I know now I COULD be stronger if I didn’t spent so much time running. Or that I COULD be faster if I didn’t spend so much time lifting.⁣ ⁣ But for me — I’m happiest doing both. So I’ll settle with being the beffiest, strongest, ultra runner along the middle pack. 🤟🏻 And now I get to help others do that too. Because we don’t HAVE to settle for ONE style of fitness if we don’t want to, or the only one that’s being sold to us on social media. at Athens, Georgia
