I’ve fallen off track the better part of the last year. I am VERY goal driven and when I don’t have a long term goal or working towards something, I loose my drove in the gym. My drive to stay on track with my nutrition and I start backsliding into old habits. It’s a mental fuck. A vicious cycle that I sometimes let get the better of me. . My strength training had no focus. I didn’t have an end game I was working to. I knew I didn’t want to training for a powerlifting competition because I would get burned out with the lifting and lose my love for it. I contemplated Strongman... but the thought of it didn’t spark a fire in me that I knew I need to commit to it. . Then a random conversation at the gym piqued my interest. You may remember 6 weeks ago I had shared I was starting a new training that I was super excited and nervous about. Well it’s been 6 weeks and I’m ready to share because I’m HOOKED!! . 6 weeks ago that random conversation came with a suggestion about training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. A local place had opened their second location just around the corner from my house. The thought of it lit a fire within me. An excitement about training that I hadn’t felt in a very long time. I contacted them and they were a week in in their current intro class. So I signed up. . Not knowing a single soul or a single thing about BJJ, I went to that class completely out of my comfort zone and wheel house of a typical gym. I quickly got over the initial uncomfortable feeling that comes with a being a newbie in this sport. I can tell you how amazing I feel physically and mentally! To be able to put the strength I build I the gym towards something constructive is such a mental release. To be able to exert brute force against someone who doesn’t mind and can honestly put power me... the feeling is indescribable. The teaching that is given and the community there has been so welcoming and fun. I am learning something new and how to defend myself. . Now here’s to completing the intro class and getting my GI! It never fails. After every weekend I get an influx of messages from anxious readers who are concerned about the scale going up a few pounds. As the infographic states, an increase in high sodium foods and/or carbs will mean an increase in water retention. Resist the urge to punish your body today for yesterday’s indulgences. You don’t need to do anything extreme by slashing calories or performing excessive cardio. This is a disordered approach to fat loss. 🧠 Use your Think Thing. THINKING YOUR WAY OUT OF INSTANT GRATIFICATION TRAP🧐 . We understand that scarfing pop tarts wont make our waist slimmer. We know that watching three hours a night watching game of thrones leaves us three hours fewer to workout or prep our food for the next day👨‍🍳 . We know that buying supplements and a gym membership won’t make us olympic athletes, we are rational people and understand this. So why are we so irrational when it comes to BAD HABITS😭 . If you decided to eat a whole pizza and dropped to the ground with a heart attack you most likely won’t eat it again, taking your first bit of cake and you balloon up 20lbs you would easily pass on the desert.🙅‍♂️ . The problem is that the payoff or instant gratification from bad habits often far outweighs whats going on in your rationale mind concerning your longer term fitness goals! 😳 . Indulging in our bad habits here and now doesn’t seem to have any negative effects at the moment, but remember consistency is king and you need to get rid of your had habits to win the battle, then eventually the war to get in shape and have your Confidence back! 🤩 . You can live your life and have fun. But really, I’ve been working out for years. After plateauing I switched to training with AJ and I’ve noticed massive gains. Both my wife and I train with AJ.” . . I’ve said this many times; there is no better way of comparing: TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS!! Your before and after pictures will reflect the lifestyle you were/are leading. I have come to learn that; training, commitment & mental factors: including stress, rest & sleep, are the main keys to success. Maintain a healthy balance and you will see results 😊 I don’t get it right every week. I am NORMAL! Yet I have still progressed. I have plodded along slowly, learning what exercises are best for my body & goals. I now know what & when to eat. I understand my bmr and daily calories needed for wherever I am in my training. It takes at least a year to learn your bodies needs and to become comfortable with lifting. My tips for newbies who want to build muscle & burn fat - *Do cardio after your resistance training *Work on form before going heavier. *Calculate your bmr, to work out how many calories to eat each day *Drink lots of water💧 *Drink energy & aminos to fuel your workouts *Throw in some HIIT cardio for fat burn *Eat a high protein diet *Learn different exercises & mix them up regularly *Gradually increase weight to build more muscle *Warm up on leg/glute days with a resistance band Nobody advised me what to do in the beginning. I signed up & walked into the gym one day and picked up my very first dumbbell. I should have been nervous, but I wasn’t. ⭕️FITNESS ADVICE?!⭕️ . Here we go! I say this to encourage you and not to offend anyone. I’m not saying that my advice is the best and others aren’t. I just want to shed some light before your time mentality and physically. I’ve seen so many quit over the years because of these things. . If you are looking to lose weight you should include both cardio and resistance training. Cardio alone can work, but as far as changing your body composition, it’s not the most ideal approach. Cardio has an advantage when it comes to burning fat and maintaining a healthy weight. You will most likely burn more calories during your cardio training than resistance. However, with resistance training your muscles will need to recover, causing a metabolic spike. So after your workout is completed, you will continue to burn calories. . When comes to eating, just eating salads everyday isn’t realistic and it’s too restrictive in my opinion. You can still eat the things you enjoy but form a plan so that you’re still achieving your goals. This can also potentially slow down your metabolism and when that happens you’re in trouble. . Moving on to protein. Protein is very important for us all but we are not all genetically the same. If someone is setting that statistical value over your head, be careful. Consuming too much protein can cause you gain weight if not used correctly. . Muscle confusion, I’m not sure what that means lol. If you are doing a variety of different exercises every single sessions, your room for adaptation is limited. You need a foundation. Doing a bunch of random exercises can cause a big hindrance to your weight loss goals. . Losing 5 to 10lbs per week? This can absolutely happen. That’s not the issue. The issue lies whenever you’re expecting this large amount to happen every single week. What happens when that stops? How are you going to respond? It can be very discouraging. . Lastly, no pain no gain? More doesn’t mean better in fitness. If you’re pushing to the max every session with limited rest, you’re in risk of an injury and overtraining. You don’t have to DIE, to lose weight. . Hope that helps!

The wrong environment can become hazerdous and cause the wrong influences. Ask God to put people in your life that have a true intrest in you. They will tell you when you wrong or tell you when you right. In my opinion first and for most become best friends with God because he is the best friend you can have. My worst enemy? The sweet tooth 🍪 I don’t splurge on big desserts very often, but I love to snack on chocolaty things and steal bites of Chase’s candy pretty frequently - a few pieces of chocolate here and there, sharing ice cream after dinner, a few bites of a brownie or candy. The calories add up super quick! The other night, Chase went to get ice cream after dinner and I had no desire to share. Why? Because protein desserts have been SAVING MY LIFE! I have been huge on making my protein mug cakes, protein ice cream, protein cookies, and having Level-1 Bars on hand since I have started focusing on getting summer ready and boy have they made a huge difference. I never crave sugary sweets now, and when I do I always have something on hand that is full of protein instead of sugar! In all of my protein desserts I use Level-1 protein. It bakes better than any other protein I have tried (doesn’t get a dry, spongy texture) and it has a high bioavailability, so you are getting the right amount of protein your body needs to keep burning fat throughout the day. It also is the best tasting I have found - German Chocolate Cake just with water is a great sweet tooth fix in it’s own!
