With this movie, Oliver Stone became the first Vietnam Veteran to direct a major motion picture about the Vietnam War. He was already the first Vietnam veteran to win an Oscar for Midnight Express◆Stone (who was an Army combat infantryman in Vietnam) wrote the scrpit to counter the false depiction of war he had seen in John Wayne's The Green Berets◆Stone sent the script to Jim Morrison (lead singer of The Doors) in hopes that he would play Chris (Charlie Sheen's role). Morrison had the script when he was found dead in Paris. Val Kilmer auditioned to be in the film. Stone eventually directed Val in The Doors, a film based on Jim Morrison's life◆The scene where Chris saves a Vietnamese girl from being raped is based on an incident in which Oliver Stone intervened on an assault happening to a villager in Vietnam●The final battle in the movie was a recreation of an actual event that was witnessed by technical advisor Dale Dye◆The cast and crew arrived in the Philippines in early 1986 at the beginning of the Edsa Revolution that toppled Ferdinand Marcos. Willem Dafoe said that a day or two after he arrived in Manila, he awoke to see a column of tanks rolling down the streets◆The dog tags which make up the double O's in the poster for the film are those of Willem Dafoe's character Sgt. Elias Grodin◆During filming, Willem Dafoe got thirsty and drank water from a river, not knowing that a dead pig was not far upstream. Screenwriter, Beverley Cross said he had the idea for Clash of the Titans in 1969 while he was living in Greece on an island called Skiathos- which is very close to Seriphos, the island where legend has it that Perseus was washed ashore in a trunk◆Cross was a student of mythology. He developed a storyline centering on Perseus, and Andromeda which linked together a number of myths. He took the idea to the producers. The story was then modified to add more creatures◆Many of the cast were stage, and screen actors notable for performing in William Shakespeare plays. Actress Maggie Smith (who plays Thetis) was married to Beverley Cross in real life● It was Maggie's friendship with Laurence Olivier that enabled her to convince Laurence to join the cast. Olivier was so sick during production, he would often go, and lean on his co-star Pat Roach saying "Let me draw some of your strength, dear boy". Pat played Hephaestus◆Initially, Calibos had no dialogue and was just a stop motion character. After a rewrite-dialogue was added and the role was given to Neil McCarthy. McCarthy only played Calibos in head shots and half-body shots. All full body shots were stop-motion◆Despite the film being notable for its stop-motion special effects, the picture was not Oscar nominated for either Make-up or Visual Effects◆Bubo, the mechanical owl of Athena made a cameo appearance in the 2010 remake. Despite the similarities to R2-D2, stop motion visual effects artist Ray Harryhausen claimed that Bubo was created before Star Wars was released ▪ #ClashOfTheTitans  #DesmondDavis #HarryHamlin #LaurenceOlivier #JudiBowker #MaggieSmith #BurgessMeredith #RayHarryhausen #UrsulaAndress #ClaireBloom #Harryhausen #GreekMythology #Perseus #Medusa #ReleaseTheKraken #Andromeda #Calibos #Zeus #Hera #Thetis #Aphrodite #Poseidon #Athena #MountOlympus #TheKraken #Trivia #FilmTrivia #MovieTrivia #FilmFact #MovieFact

What Dreams May Come is a 1978 novel by Richard Matheson. The title is derived from William Shakespeare's "Hamlet" (Act 3, Scene 1): "To sleep: perchance to dream: ay, there's the rub; for in that sleep of death what dreams may come when we have shuffled off this mortal coil must give us pause"◆When Chris (Robin Williams) goes to the city in Heaven where people are flying, watch for (Wendy, Michael, and John) from Peter Pan, and Mary Poppins among the people who are flying. Robin Williams previously played Peter Pan in the film Hook. Director, Vincent Ward also put his mother amongst the people flying around in the great library◆The "Hell" scenes were shot at the Alameda Naval Air Station in an indoor swimming pool surrounded by blue screen◆During the scene in which Annie (Annabella Sciorra) is seen alive, sitting on a bed writing in her journal, there is a triptych by painter Hieronymus Bosch on the wall behind her. The painting, called The Garden of Earthly Delights features three panels. The first being Bosch's interpretation of Heaven, the second Earth, and the last Hell◆German director, producer, screenwriter, author, actor and opera director Werner Herzog is the face with the glasses when Chris walks across the field of Faces of the Damned◆This film was one of a small number of films shot on Fuji Velvia film stock. Velvia is a type of film used most frequently for still photography of landscapes and other subjects because of its very high color saturation. It is only rarely employed for cinematography, usually when special effects are required● The film won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and the Art Directors Guild Award for Excellence in Production Design ☆ #WhatDreamsMayCome #VincentWard #AnnabellaSciorra #RichardMatheson #RobinWilliams  #RobinMcLaurinWilliams #CubaGoodingJr  #MaxVonSydow #WernerHerzog  #RosalindChao #LucindaJenney #JessicaBrooksGrant #JoshPaddock #Trivia #FilmTrivia #MovieTrivia #FilmFact #FilmFacts #MovieFact #MovieFacts #FunFact #FunFacts #InterestingFact #InterestingFacts #TheMoreYouKnow #DidYouKnow  #BehindTheScene  #BehindTheScenes  #FilmMaking

While it is not mentioned in the film, Parry (Robin Williams) is short for Parsifal, the "pure fool" and legendary knight of the Holy Grail. Parry brings redemption to Jack Lucas (Jeff Bridges) just like, Parsifal brings redemption to the Fisher King Amfortas. Also, like Parsifal, Parry does battle with a Red Knight, experiences a cosmic awakening after kissing Lydia, just like Parsifal experiences a cosmic awakening after kissing the beautiful Kundry●Lydia's last name is Sinclair. One of the legends about the grail is that it is buried under Rosslyn Chapel in Scotland which was built by the Sinclair clan. The name Sinclair comes back in several grail myths. Amanda Plummer (Lydia) is the daughter of legendary actor Christopher Plummer●Mercedes Ruehl won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Anne●Tom Waits makes a cameo as the beggar in the wheelchair at the train station◆When Robin Williams tells the story of the fisher king, he says, "I think I heard it at a lecture once... I don't know... a professor... at Hunter". Before becoming homeless, his character Parry was a professor of medieval history at Hunter College◆The positioning of Jack Lucas with the homeless cabaret singer in his arms at the hospital echoes the positions of Mary and Christ in Michelangelo Buonarotti's Pieta at the Vatican ▪ #TheFisherKing #FisherKing #TerryGilliam #RobinWilliams #RobinMcLaurinWilliams  #JeffBridges #MercedesRuehl #AmandaPlummer #TomWaits #LaraHarris #Parsifal #Gilliam #MichaelJeter #HarryShearer #DavidHydePierce  #KathyNajimy  #JohnDeLancie #CarlosCarrasco #Trivia #FilmTrivia #MovieTrivia #FilmFact #FilmFacts #MovieFact #MovieFacts #FunFact #FunFacts #InterestingFact #InterestingFacts #TheMoreYouKnow

American Psycho was published in 1991, and was written by Bret Easton Ellis. Bret was sent several death threats after it was published◆Christian Bale was watching Tom Cruise on David Letterman while looking for a way to create the character of Patrick Bateman. Bale said for some reason he saw in Cruise a very "intense friendliness with nothing behind the eyes". Bale subsequently based the character of Bateman on Cruise's look◆Interestingly, Tom Cruise is actually featured in the novel. He lives in the same apartment complex as Bateman, who meets him in a lift. Bateman gets the name of Cruise's 1988 film Cocktail wrong by calling it "Bartender"◆Bale also used Nicolas Cage's performance in 1988's Vampire's Kiss as inspiration for Patrick Bateman, as the two characters are strikingly similar◆Bale was warned by many that it would be career suicide for him to play the lead in a film like this. This only made him more eager to take the role◆During production Christian spoke in his American accent off set at all times. At the wrap party, when he began to speak with his British accent, many of the crew thought he was speaking that way as an accent for another film - some thought he was American throughout the entire shoot◆During the entire production, Christian followed the morning routine that his character describes toward the beginning of the film #AmericanPsycho #MaryGarron #BretEastonEllis #ChristianBale #WillemDafoe #JaredLeto #JoshLucas #SamanthaMathis #MattRoss #BillSage #ChloeSevigny #CaraSeymour #JustinTheroux #GuinevereTurner #ReeseWitherspoon #RegECathey #PatrickBateman #PsychologicalThriller #Trivia #FilmTrivia #MovieTrivia #FilmFact #FilmFacts #MovieFact #MovieFacts #FunFact #FunFacts #InterestingFact #InterestingFacts #TheMoreYouKnow

Annihilation is a 2014 novel by Jeff VanderMeer. It is the first in a series of three books called the Southern Reach Trilogy. The novel won the 2014 Nebula Award for Best Novel, and the 2014 Shirley Jackson Award for best novel●VanderMeer said there's not much dialogue in his novel.  Most of the details in the novel are things he experienced while hiking. He simply added the Sci-fi/fantasy element to it. The characters do not have names in the novel. Producer, Scott Rudin sent it to director Alex Garland and suggested that he read it●Oscar Isaac was shooting Star Wars at the same time on the same studio lot.  Sometimes he would walk over to work while still wearing his Star Wars pilot outfit●Natalie Portman not only had weapons training with the rest of the cast- but she also had special input from her head of security who is a former Israeli soldier●The mutated mechanical bear was first scene by the cast during the scene itself. In an interview, Portman said it freaked them out because they thought it would be added in post production with CGI●Sonoya Mizuno played the humanoid robot Kyoko in Garland's previous film Ex Machina. Back in 1995, Christopher Reeve told Barbara Walters that he "wanted to die" after he was paralyzed in a horse-riding accident. Reeve's wife even told him that if he wished to "pull the plug," that they would "find a way to do that." She added: "But you're still you. And we love you." Later, after she left, Reeve was lying alone in the hospital with his "dark thoughts." Suddenly, a doctor walked into Reeve's hospital room and yelled "Turn over!" The surprised Reeve uttered "What?" — he was paralyzed, and clearly couldn't turn over. But again the doctor repeated, "Turn over!". Reeve was about to call a nurse, when he realized that this was no doctor. This was Robin Williams — his old friend from Juilliard ☆ And at that moment, Reeve started to laugh. #Repost @filmvisions (@get_repost) ・・・ The entire Frank Pentangeli storyline in The Godfather Part II was supposed to be Peter Clemenza. On the DVD commentary, director Francis Ford Coppola said that Richard Castellano (Clemenza) wanted a personal friend of his to write his dialogue. Coppola couldn't understand why and felt it would've made things too difficult since the script was subject to change at times. When negotiations didn't work, Coppola went to his typewriter and created the character of Frank Pentangeli. He had Frank and his men wear black armbands as a way to say that Clemenza had died back in New York. R.U.R. is a 1920/1921 Czech science fiction play by Karel Čapek.  R.U.R. stands for Rossum’s Universal Robots. It premiered on January 25th, 1921 and introduced the word "robot" to the English language, and to science fiction as a whole. By 1923, it had been translated into 30 languages ☆ William Sanderson played J.F. Sebastian in Ridley Scott's 1982 film Blade Runner. In the film, Sebastian was a gifted designer who worked closely with the Tyrell Corporation in creating bioengineered beings known as replicants ☆ 1992's Batman: The Animated Series featured a character named Dr. Carl Rossum in the episodes (Heart of Steel 1 & 2) & (His Silicon Soul). Rossum is a robotics engineer who creates a series of human like robots. The character's name is taken from Karel Capek's play. Also in this episode, Rossum's assistant, Randa Duane (voiced by Leslie Easterbrook) drives a car with the license plate (RUR) which stands for Rossum's Universal Robots. The film is based on Super Toys Last All Summer Long by British science fiction author Brian Aldiss, first published in 1969●Development of A.I. originally began with director, Stanley Kubrick in the early 1970s. Kubrick hired a series of writers up until the mid-1990s. The film languished in development for years, partly because Kubrick felt computer-generated imagery was not advanced enough to create the David character, whom he believed no child actor would believably portray●In 1995, Kubrick handed A.I. to Steven Spielberg, but the film did not gain momentum until Kubrick's death in 1999. A small credit appears after the end credits, which reads "For Stanley Kubrick."●The much-criticized ending, that many viewers assumed was an addition that Spielberg had insisted on, was a part of Kubrick's original treatment●Robin Williams actually recorded his dialog for the film with Stanley Kubrick directing the recording session, he did it a long time before Spielberg was attached to direct. The role of Vincent Vega was originally and exclusively written for Michael Madsen. Quentin Tarantino had been working on the script for 7 months...and even though Madsen knew of Quentin's plans and had expressed his desire to play the part, 2 weeks before the script was completed he decided to play Virgil Earp in the 1993 film Wyatt Earp starring Kevin Costner ☆ Tarantino revealed that Vincent Vega in Pulp Fiction is the brother of Mr. Blonde in Reservoir Dogs. Mr. Blonde's real name is Vic Vega ☆ After John Trovolta was cast as Vincent, Tarantino came up with the idea of doing a prequel to both films called Double V Vega, which would star the Vega Brothers. Madsen, and Travolta eventually got too old to reprise their roles, and Tarantino has since abandoned the idea ☆ #QuentinJeromeTarantino  #QuentinTarantino #MrBlonde #Quentin  #Tarantino  #ReservoirDogs #VincentVega #MichaelMadsen #PulpFiction  #JohnTrovolta  #Trovolta #MovieTrivia #Pulp #UmaThurman #MiaWallace #FilmtriviaTrivia  #Uma #Thurman  #MovieFact  #FilmFact #FilmFans #MovieGeek  #90sMovie  #MovieBuff #MovieNerd #90sMovies

Happy 4th July! Did you know that Independence Day holds the record for the most miniature models ever used in a film? With the improvement in CGI since its release in 1996, it's one that may never broken. . . . . . . . . . . . . #4thjuly #independenceday #film #filmreview #filmblog #filmblogger #moviefact #facts #coolfacts #funfacts #didyouknow #movie #moviereview #movieblog #movieblogger #filmfact

Jim Harrison’s novel. Legends of the Fall was published in 1979◆ The title refers to the biblical fall from innocence◆The filmmakers originally envisioned Sean Connery for the role of Colonel Ludlow, and Tom Cruise for Tristan. Johnny Depp was offerd the Tristan role but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts◆Both Samantha Mathis, and Gwyneth Paltrow auditioned for the role of Susannah◆It took director Edward Zwick 17 years to get this project up on screen◆Before this film, Brad Pitt & Julia Ormond had never ridden horses before. They had a couple of weeks of lessons in Burbank California before filming◆It was actually summertime when the entire family gathers around Samuel's grave. Fake snow was put around the overhead shot because there wasn't enough snow to put on the ground for a wide shot to convey winter◆In the novel, Samuel is killed while off on a mission, and Tristan doesn't see him get shot like he does in the film◆Also the book, Isabel II gets shot in the forehead, not the chest. Tristan later scalps the man who shot her◆In the film, after Tristan beats up the officer who shot Isabel II, he is held down and hit by John O'Banion played by Robert Wisden. Robert accidentally hit Brad Pitt in the eye for real. This scene was filmed before the tennis playing scene that takes place earlier in the film. You can see Brad Pitt's black eye while he's talking to Samuel about Susannah wanting to lose her virginity. Pitt, and Zwick simply had Tristan tell Samuel that a horse he was breaking in had caused the black eye●In a deleted scene, Tristan goes to Jamaica to visit his grandfather ☆ @julia.ormond @anthonyhopkins @christinapickles @karinalombard#LegendsOfTheFall #LegendOfTheFall #JamesHorner #EdwardZwick #JimHarrison #BradPitt #AnthonyHopkins #JuliaOrmond #SirAnthonyHopkins #WilliamBradleyPitt #JamesHarrison #AidanQuinn #HenryThomas #KarinaLombard #TantooCardinal #GordonTootoosis #ChristinaPickles #PeriodPiece #PeriodDrama #CostumeDesign #CostumeDrama #Cinematography #FilmMaker #FilmMakers #FilmMaking #MovieFact #MovieTrivia #FilmFact #MovieFreak #FilmTrivia
