I recommended this book to a friend recently. I hope that it will help them as much as it helped me in the past. I have worked on my physical self since as long as I can remember. Always played sport, always exercised. I came to a point in my life where I needed to work on the inside. The outside was far easier to control. By facing yourself it meant you faced your thoughts, your fears, your values. Discovering what really makes you happy for me wasn't being super fit and skinny. By performing an internal audit on myself and assessing my happiness I knew I needed to change my conscious self. Today I focus on being optimistic, being more engaged, experiencing more, having a life with purpose and meaning. Man up… whatever that means. From childhood, the media shows us what men should be. By the age of five or six we are conditioned to believe that it is not acceptable to cry. And throughout the unforgiving battlefield that is youth, we desperately fight to establish a respected, 'manly' place in a string of dominant and unjust playground hierarchies. At these young ages, we're taught the crucially misguided associations that 'being a man' is synonymous with power, wealth and athletic prowess. These phrases – ‘man up’ and ‘be a man’ and ‘don’t be a girl’ – are outdated and destructive. They equate strength with gender. They belittle emotion. They’re dismissive of vulnerability. They’re always used in a chiding, bullying way. But the time for such ignorance is over. To ‘Man Up’ now means to ‘Speak Up’. That is the real definition of ‘Manning Up’. I won’t let such comments stand in the way of me growing up without being true to myself. Keto Fudge Bombs 1 c almond butter 1 c coconut oil 1/2 coco powder 1/3 c coconut flour 1-2 tbs monk fruit sweetener Silicone molds Over Medium heat melt almond butter and coconut oil together. Then remove from heat and add the other ingredients. Pour into silicone molds and place in freezer for 60 to 90 minutes. Just a FYI, this is probably the last Keto dessert that I will post. I am not a fan of them and the sugar substitutes are not something that I morally support. More power to all of you who enjoy these. They are not bad, but not my thing at all. Be well, Elizabeth

GOAL UPDATE! I just wanted to check in and share my progress towards my goal of 365 workouts in 2019 (shared in a previous post). For the workout to count towards my goal, I have to track it on my Apple Watch (meaning, I’ve decided that what I’m about to do is exercise and I need to approach it with intention and purpose), and it has to be 30+ minutes. What the work out is can look a variety of ways, but I’m personally not counting my dog walks, wandering Seattle with friends, stretching/foam rolling sessions (although those can sometimes FEEL like a workout) or anything I’m not logging for the day. This means all the walking I do when traveling doesn’t count. It counts, of course, but it doesn’t count for THIS. I’m making awesome progress and still giving myself rest and recovery days! It is easy to say avoid stress. But hard to do. Our worlds are filled with stress, but that isn’t what causes us physical problems. It is our inner reaction to stress. In addition to causing a variety of physical damage, for many of us stress can increase the hormones that make us hungry. That can trigger comfort eating. Here are some simple things that you can do that will give your body a break from stress. •Stop and breathe deeply. Stress induces shallow breathing. Often deep breathing creates an immediate sense of calm. •Give stress a time-out. Set aside a period of time when you allow yourself to not think about the situation causing you stress. Instead think only about pleasant things. •Create an inner sanctum. This is a place you create and can visit in your imagination that reminds you of a happy experience or place that you’ve visited. •Repeat positive, calming words to yourself. Our self-talk can either be calming or alarming. Just repeating calming words (think how you would comfort a child) can help reset your stress level. •Learn to meditate or study mindfulness. Both meditation and mindfulness can be like a spring shower for your brain. Through both of these, your brain can learn through to reset its stress point. • If the stress gets too bad, therapy is a wonderful way to reshape our view of the world, and therefore change what causes stress or change our reaction to stress. I have openings for a few new clients starting mid-November.
